  15. Splitting bouldering and lead might be a bit more difficult. It was quite clear that sprint was different than the other two events while these two are similar enough in terms of skill that someone at the IOC may not see the difference. The good news is they don't need to request a lot of quotas. If a split bouldering and lead event were to have the same number of athletes as sprint, they only need to request 8 men and 8 women quotas. Though I wish they would bump sprint up to at least 16 so there are no byes during the elimination bracket.
  16. A comparison vs. 2020. Dressage - The Group F qualifier will be at the 2022 World Championships, assuming an eligible team competes. Two individual Group D/E quotas will be determined by the 2023 Pan American Games (the other 2 will be through the rankings as before). Eventing - 1 additional team quota determined at the 2022 World Championships (there are three fewer individual quotas). The document is a bit ambiguous on whether the D/E quotas are combined or separate. I think they are combined based on the proposal, and they forgot to specify that the groups will get 4 quotas. Jumping - The 2022 Nations Cup Final will determine one quota (taken from the 2022 World Championships). Group C currently only has one qualifier rather than splitting them up. The individual D/E quotas have changed, only 3 will be determined at the 2023 Pan American Games while the fourth will be decided through the rankings.
  17. Olympic qualifiers were suppose to be held at the 2022 Asian Games. Wonder if they will keep it for 2023 or just add quotas to the Asian qualifier if applicable.
  18. With speed getting its own medal event at the Olympics, that may not be as big of a priority anymore.
  19. For people keeping track, we are missing Aquatics (Artistic Swimming, Diving, Open Water, Swimming, Water Polo) Athletics Canoeing (Slalom, Sprint) Cycling (BMX Freestyle, BMX Race, Road, Track) Equestrian (Dressage, Eventing, Jumping) Football Sailing Surfing Table Tennis Tennis In terms of direct qualifiers, equestrian and football will definitely have 2022 qualifiers while sailing may also use their 2022 world champs. The 2022 Asian Games may have qualifiers in these sports too (sailing? tennis?)
  20. Surfing kind of lucked out, Japan, France, the United States and Australia are all big surfing nations (heck, even Brazil would have been a great spot in 2016). I agree surfing is a bit lacking in terms of competitive nations, but due to favourable hosts the sport has essentially 10 more years to develop. Accessible also doesn't need to mean all nations can take part or else you can argue that sailing should be removed. If the ISA can push for the development in the Africa, Central America, the Caribbean and the Pacific, it could remain long term.
  21. FIFA is always pretty bad about publishing the qualification document. The men's and women's CONCACAF and women's CONMEBOL qualifiers will happen in the coming months. Everything else is dated for 2023/2024 so I am not worrying too much about them just yet. Note for women's CONCACAF the winner will qualify directly while second and third place will play a play-off match in 2023.
  22. It's true though, modern pentathlon has an accessibility problem and that will likely cause it to be removed from the Olympics. Sports aren't entitled to be in the Olympics. Throw in the fact that the governance is going the way of boxing/weightlifting in terms of transparency and the sport is looking less viable by the day.
  23. Yeah the IOC wants the UIPM to modernize and become more accessible, no where does it state they want them to remove jumping specifically. With that said, removing jumping would make the sport more accessible for athletes. I personally would like a more continuous event, sort of like triathlon. Start with fencing to get a staggered time, change jumping to cross-country riding, after finishing, riders dismount and head straight to the pool and then finish off with running/shooting.
  24. For equestrian at least, they'll need to publish soon since the first direct qualifying event is suppose to be the 2022 World Championships. The IOC made it a big deal for the sport federations to be open and transparent. I guess we'll see...
  25. I'm not sure modern pentathletes will get the response they want from the IOC. I'm pretty sure it was the IOC who told the federation to modernize and become more accessible or risk being dropped from the program.
