  1. Canada's artistic swimming team not looking too hot. Finished behind the United States.
  2. And Canada's chances take a huge hit after that 1-0 loss to Cuba. We need to win tomorrow against the United States or we'll be placed in the lower half of the knock-out bracket.
  3. Not the pair I thought would make the final, but good for Wilkerson for finding a good partner and for them to gel so quickly.
  4. What a finish by Australia, going from 8th at the half way mark to second. Chalmers destroyed everyone.

  6. Very excited for Summer's future. She has the potential to be one of Canada's greatest swimmers.
  7. Canada can still qualify a duet at the final qualifier. Assuming they start fielding a team rather than focusing on the team event. The morning swimming events went well, hopefully we can get a few medals over the week.
  8. Preview: 2022 CONCACAF U-20 Championship Sport: Football Events: Men's Tournament Dates: June 18th to July 3rd 2022 Location: San Pedro Sula and Tegucigalpa Olympic Quotas: Two teams of 18 athletes Canada's Chances: 25% With just over two years until the 2024 Olympics, the first direct qualifier is upon us. We begin with football and a bit of a format change relative to 2020. Instead of a dedicated Olympic qualification tournament with U-23 players, CONCACAF has decided to use the U-20 championship as the qualifier where the two finalists will qualify to the Olympics. The format is also a bit unique where the top 16 teams qualified to the group stage and the top 3 advance to the knock-out stage along with four teams which qualified via the qualifying tournament. Historically, Canada has been one step away from qualifying to the last four Olympics, losing to Mexico in the last three attempts. Lucky for Canada, the bracket is created in a way that Canada should avoid Mexico (unless one of the teams finish third during the group stage). Of course, this means they will likely have to defeat the United States and one of Costa Rica or Honduras, none of which will be easy. The Canadian men's program is running on a high thanks to their qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup. While I don't think they are favoured to qualify they do have a realistic chance. Sadly this will be the only opportunity for CONCACAF teams to qualify to the Olympics.
  9. Here we can discuss Canada's qualification to the 2024 Olympics. We can post our own previews/predictions, discuss the events as they occur and any follow-up thoughts.
  10. Yeah, it would have been a shocking medal had they pulled it off. I feel the men's program is recovering a bit and while they may not get medals again, I am hoping for a few final appearances.
  11. Asia went from 2 to 2+host in 2020. The host quota not being tied to any continent is a common tactic for many sports and I thought FIFA figured that out, but I guess not. It's not like Africa and South America needed two quotas each, even having them share a second quota is already generous
  12. The IOC doesn't want to increase athlete quotas, we are more likely to see a decrease in the men's event to 12 than an increase in the women's to 16.
  13. A second direct South American team is also pushing it, even if it was a formality to defeat the African team in the inter-continental qualifier
  14. Yeah, the top 16 teams got a bye to the tournament while the rest had to qualify, but if you qualified you automatically qualified to the knock-out round and are against the group winners.
  15. With no Russia, expect a lot of medals to be won by other nations. is third after the qualification round in the women's duet technical. It's also dumb that Canada hasn't competed in the duets here (or at the World Cups). There's a good chance we'll fail to qualify a team to the Olympics and I don't think it will be a good idea to try and scramble a routine to qualify in the duets (though on paper we should qualify relatively easily).
  16. They are a new pair, but to be fair Brandie did make the quarterfinals at the Olympics
  17. Two Brazilians down, one left to go for Pavan/Melissa. ended up being the only nation with two entries in the quarters on the women's side. Though when that happened at the Olympics both lost in the quarterfinals
  18. Hoping for Liendo and McIntosh to have a great performance, same for Ruck hope she can get over the mental block in the individual events, though on paper I don't think she will medal, her goal should be getting into the finals.
