Italian television (RAI) said that declined olympic quota in women's waterpolo
Any word on the men's quota?

I really want us to qualify, but I would be shocked if we did. We used all of our luck getting the women's basketball team qualified.

Yeah, thought she might even press for bronze for a second, but she faded badly.
Basically, O'Croinin improved her time from the morning a bit and everything else stayed about the same. The subs didn't add anything. Oh well, they'll have Summer and a hopefully back in form Oleksiak for Paris.
Any chance we could have Summer swim two legs of the relay?

Despite missing some of our top swimmers and our diving team having a bad time, this is turning out to be a decent championships medal-wise.

What are our chances for our men’s 4 by 200 to qualify for Paris ?
Very good. Our time from 2023 is probably enough. It's hard to see at least 5 nations surpass us, especially with the likes of Hungary and Switzerland not competing.

France almost pulled off the win, but lost in PSO.

Considering Australia has multiple cricket stadiums I do hope they increase the team size to 12 for this edition.
While India is the big prize, the rest of South Asia is quite populous and is relatively weak in the current Olympic program so from a marketing perspective it would be quite beneficial to the IOC for them to be here.
Expansion also allow nations with little to no team sport representation to qualify. Right now it is likely would qualify in a 6-team tournament so the "exotic" feel cricket has would be lost. After those four nations the only major decent ones are the Netherlands and Ireland (which is already pushing it).

Yeah, it's more likely that athletes are based in Europe so it is actually cheaper for them to travel to Hungary. I don't really know any other Oceania nations which compete in rhythmic gymnastics.
Having the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships at the World Championships makes sense because weightlifting is quite popular in the Pacific, but most of those nations are quite poor and are unlikely to afford the cost of traveling to two events.

Even though I don't expect to win, at least the quota will be decided in a direct match.

Swimming is my favourite sport since forever, i have been following this sport since the amazing Sydney 2000 games and the great Ian Thorpe, and have even went to Budapest in 2017 only to be able to watch a WC live for the first time, and, with the poor support and attention this sport has in my country, I never thought I could live to see the day my anthem would play in the World Championship.
Congratulations. Hopefully he can improve in his other events. Perhaps he can be a medal threat at the Olympics this year or even in 2028.

Yes, we are guaranteed at least one Pacific nation will qualify.

Looks like Swimming Canada put a lot of resources into the breaststroke so we can have a great medley relay.
Too bad freestyle and to a lesser extent backstroke has regressed a bit. I still feel good about the prospect of a bronze medal, but surpassing Australia and the United States remains tough

I always found it weird that Belarus got punished as badly (or in this case worse) as Russia.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I always saw them as a forced accomplice in this.

No it's a rule that give exception for this kind of nation to send relay
That's a new rule.
It's up to World Aquatics to decide, but I'm glad the option is in place. In the past, nations were forced to decline a quota because their swim team was too small.

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but Slovenia needs either one more person to get an OQT or qualify another relay or else they are at risk of losing the relay quota. This is because they have only qualified one woman and qualifying one relay only gives you 2 relay-only athletes so they won't have enough athletes to form a relay.
Same thing with Serbia on the men's side.

Sri Lanka averaged 9 athletes over the past two Olympics so they should not be eligible.
The were eligible last time, so maybe IJF forgot to remove them from their document.

So miss out on the quota because they didn't take part in the World Champs. Given the pairing were in Doha, it seems a strange decision for them to have not taken part.
Perhaps, South Africa's NOC told them they wouldn't be selected even if they did compete.

Makes you think what kind of crazy way the women's volleyball team will qualify.
Overall we have six traditional teams at the Olympics, with men's rugby sevens and women's volleyball remaining. For 2020 we had 8, but one was softball.
