  1. I really want us to qualify, but I would be shocked if we did. We used all of our luck getting the women's basketball team qualified.
  2. Despite missing some of our top swimmers and our diving team having a bad time, this is turning out to be a decent championships medal-wise.
  3. Very good. Our time from 2023 is probably enough. It's hard to see at least 5 nations surpass us, especially with the likes of Hungary and Switzerland not competing.
  4. A different Olin got the Pan Am quota.
  5. Considering Australia has multiple cricket stadiums I do hope they increase the team size to 12 for this edition. While India is the big prize, the rest of South Asia is quite populous and is relatively weak in the current Olympic program so from a marketing perspective it would be quite beneficial to the IOC for them to be here. Expansion also allow nations with little to no team sport representation to qualify. Right now it is likely would qualify in a 6-team tournament so the "exotic" feel cricket has would be lost. After those four nations the only major decent ones are the Netherlands and Ireland (which is already pushing it).
  6. Yeah, it's more likely that athletes are based in Europe so it is actually cheaper for them to travel to Hungary. I don't really know any other Oceania nations which compete in rhythmic gymnastics. Having the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships at the World Championships makes sense because weightlifting is quite popular in the Pacific, but most of those nations are quite poor and are unlikely to afford the cost of traveling to two events.
  7. Even though I don't expect to win, at least the quota will be decided in a direct match.
  8. Congratulations. Hopefully he can improve in his other events. Perhaps he can be a medal threat at the Olympics this year or even in 2028.
  9. Yes, we are guaranteed at least one Pacific nation will qualify.
  10. Looks like Swimming Canada put a lot of resources into the breaststroke so we can have a great medley relay. Too bad freestyle and to a lesser extent backstroke has regressed a bit. I still feel good about the prospect of a bronze medal, but surpassing Australia and the United States remains tough
  11. I always found it weird that Belarus got punished as badly (or in this case worse) as Russia. Maybe I'm wrong, but I always saw them as a forced accomplice in this.
  12. Did you combine the technical and duet? The combined score for Ukraine was 444.9607 while for Portugal is was 409.2659
  13. That's a new rule. It's up to World Aquatics to decide, but I'm glad the option is in place. In the past, nations were forced to decline a quota because their swim team was too small.
  14. Not to be the bearer of bad news, but Slovenia needs either one more person to get an OQT or qualify another relay or else they are at risk of losing the relay quota. This is because they have only qualified one woman and qualifying one relay only gives you 2 relay-only athletes so they won't have enough athletes to form a relay. Same thing with Serbia on the men's side.
  15. Sri Lanka averaged 9 athletes over the past two Olympics so they should not be eligible. The were eligible last time, so maybe IJF forgot to remove them from their document.
  16. Perhaps, South Africa's NOC told them they wouldn't be selected even if they did compete.
  17. 38-year old Kristel Kobrich qualified to the 1500m freestyle finals. What a long career for her and she's still going strong. Assuming she stays healthy she's looking to go for a 6th Olympics, tied for the most among swimmers
  18. While it's sad for us to go out like this, it was a tough group and honestly, if we can't defeat Spain or Japan then our chances to medal were pretty low.
  19. At this rate we'd have to sneak our way into the Olympics. As in, hope one of Italy or Hungary (or even both) lose their quarterfinal match and then beat Australia while hoping they lose their 5th-8th semifinal match. Is it a dirty way of qualifying? Yes, but hopefully this teaches World Aquatics not to have qualified teams in a final qualifier tournament.
