  1. It's still unofficial, but it only makes 2020 that much better.
  2. Will another supersuit record drop? The 400m free might be the events to watch for both genders
  3. So going into the world qualifier the men's freestyle quotas for Asia are: - 5 - 4 - 3 - 3 - 2 - 2 - 1 Currently no men's freestyle quotas for China and India. In 2020 they qualified in three events each.
  4. Not looking good for Australia. Also a 90+14 goal in the Qatar/Jordan game (btw it was 2-1). Was there a lot of stoppage or were the refs waiting for Qatar to score
  5. For nations like Bulgaria, sport investment in the 70s-90s was due to national pride and a rallying cry by the government to lower the amount of dissident despite not making the lives of the people much better. When a country decides they want to invest in infrastructure and making the lives of the people better then luxury things like sport investment takes a hit. Once luxury can be affordable then sport investment goes up. That's why you see countries that are actually developing tend to do poorly in sport rather than overcompensating and looking flashy.
  6. I'm also surprised, qualified athletes actually made the trip to Brazil. If there was a World Cup event in Brazil in the coming weeks it would be one thing, but now they need to fly back to Europe for events in May (or back to their home nation). Flying to South America is quite expensive. Seems like a waste of money considering they have two more World Cup events to practice before the Olympics.
  7. I think there are two more weeks before things are final. With that said, I don't think Sri Lanka (along with El Salvador and Myanmar) will miss out.
  8. You are correct. However, does this adds another complexity, does the 49er, 49erFX & Nacra17 have eligible nations? Going by this document they do, but they don't have athletes in the emerging nations program. Hopefully, World Sailing provides more clarity soon.
  9. I think there's only one quota in each event or has this changed?
  10. They are both decided at the same event. The last chance quotas takes priority, then the emerging nations quotas are decided.
  11. Yeah, unfortunately for these types of services, their model puts a lot of weight on the last world championships. For swimming so many people missed the 2024 edition (as expected) that the prediction is skewed. Since Australia depends on swimming for many of its medals, they are going to be severely underestimated in this model. GraceNote would be better off to either combine the times of the last two championships or even disregard 2024 and only use 2023.
  12. Iraq lost their opening match against Thailand so things aren't looking good for them. South Korea and Japan struggled in their wins against UAE and China.
  13. No, athletes with no ranking can compete in the continental qualifiers.
  14. Being curious, here are the top ranked eligible Asian athletes in each zone (max 2 per NOC). East Asia Men 36. Chun Ting Wong 91. Siu Hang Lam 726. Temuulen Myandal 753. Ser-Od Gankhuyag East Asia Women 162. Song Gyong Pyon 598. Bolor-Erdene Batmunkh 645. Undram Munkhbat Note: North Korea is severely underrated due to not participating for years Southeast Asia Men 106. Koen Pang 109. Izaac Quek 352. Qi Shen Wong 391. Javen Choong 396. Sitisak Nuchchart Southeast Asia Women 61. Jian Zeng 116. Jingyi Zhou 277. Alice Chang 310. Kheith Cruz 369. Ying Ho South Asia Men 793. Ahmed Akhyar 829. Afzaal Ahmad 910. Mohamed Ismail 924. Sanyog Kapali South Asia Women 537. Ishara Madurangi 631. Fathimath Ali 730. Aishath Nazim West Asia Men 308. Ali Alkhadrawi 325. Ebrahim Gubran 460. Yousif Abdalla 467. Rawad Alnaser 468. Abdulaziz Bu Shulaybi West Asia Women 319. Mariam El Habech 355. Lori Yahnian 388. Maryam Alaali 438. Aia Mohamed 488. Bara Al-Wedian Middle Asia Men 41. Kirill Gerassimenko 72. Noshad Almaniyan 137. Mahshid Ashtari
  15. Unless things have recently changed the groupings for each zone is as follows. East Asia Southeast Asia South Asia West Asia Middle Asia Nations already qualified to the team event are not eligible for singles quotas. That means the women's East Asia quota is literally between North Korea and Mongolia while the men adds Hong Kong to the mix. Additionally, Thailand's women cannot compete nor can India in either gender.
  16. That's quite odd. I'd argue New Zealand's woman is better than their man. If they were going to keep one quota it would have been her.
  17. There should be an East Asian qualifier. As for the last quota, I think like Europe they are planning to allocated it towards the rankings, but they may host another tournament.
  18. Quite impressed that Canada is one of three nations which will send a full team.
  19. Yeah, despite not completely translating into medals, Japan has quite a bit of depth in swimming. I wouldn't be surprised if they are a clear third behind the United States and Australia in such a list.
  20. It's a double edge sword. Sure they may get time together and a week rest, but that's after playing six games in 15-17 days with the top players being fully involved in at least the final three games, plus there's a risk of injuries during that time.
  21. The tournament has started a few minutes ago, if anyone is interested. I just realized that the 4th place team will play their play-off game against only one week later. That's a bit unfair...
  22. I don't think so. I think there is only one more event which gives points before the deadline and Hungary has over 200 point lead over the next nation.
  23. I believe that makes 9/14 individual events McIntosh has reached the OQT in. She could easily make the 1500m freestyle if she ever decides to compete in it, but I doubt she will. She's more realistically to get the 100m freestyle or maybe 200m breaststroke if she decides she wants to practice those strokes again.
