I am afraid we will have Gulag everywhere with this way.

Russians use core principles of democracy against us. Democracy needs voting. But it is important: who votes. If we look through the reports from the meetings of FIE (interhational fencing federation - one of the most pro-russian IF) we can see that russian position is supported during discussion by a lot of countries which do not have fencing traditions and rarelt send a lot of fencers to the international tournaments. Some of this national federations do not exist really - their contact e-mail boxes answer with something like "this address do not exist". But their votes are the same as the votes from others.

That is a general russian approach (in sports, politics e t.c.): they strengthen marginal groups (fat-rights, far-lefts, neo-nazi, nominal national sport federations e t.c.) to make their influence unproportionally high (with the help of money, media resources e t.c.). It undermines the result of the voting is which expected to represent balance of the oppinions. By the way, they used it in IPC to allow russians to take part in the Paralympics.

Let me show once again this famous photo from pro-war meeting with russian athletes. We can see that some of them have Z-s on their uniform and some of them do not have. So they at least had a choice - to were Z or not.

It's just that most countries supporting Russia or with a neutral stance are from the so called "global south" and, therefore, not powerhouses in fencing (which is largely an euro-usa-east asian sport), but they are not "marginal groups".

The outcome would probably be the same in most olympic sports but many of them have simply not submitted the matter to a vote and kept Russia banned by decision of their executive boards.

  4. Cuantos atletas más podríamos llegar a clasificar?

La cuenta que hago hasta ahora:

    Casi seguro

    -Voley masculino (12)

    -Golf masculino (Grillo, Tosti)

    -Judo (1 plaza continental)

    -Ciclismo BMX carrera (Molina)

-Tenis masculino (Baez, Cerundolo, Etcheverry + Zeballos, Gonzalez, Molteni)

    Posible

    Complicadísimo

    -Boxeo

    -Tiro

    -Lucha

    -Gimnasia

    -Arquería

Ignoro Atletismo, no me suena ninguno que pueda clasificar en pruebas por ranking. Supongo que algún maratonista más se va a sumar.

Tampoco sé qué tan potable está el ciclismo mountain bike en este momento.

  5. And :ARG streak of 18 consecutive wins comes to an end.

I did say in this thread that the only way I see this team losing is due to injuries or indiscipline and that may have been the case: two quick yellows that Ireland capitalized in a 7v5 powerplay near the end to come back and win the match.

Extremely rare (possibly 1st time ever) all-european men's semifinals in LA.

    :IRL v :FRA

    :ESP v :GBR

Essentially, each team that's on offense has 4 chances (downs) to gain 10 yards (or score a touchdown if they're 10 yards or less from the endzone). When they gain 10 yards, the number of downs resets.

Usually, when a team doesn't gain 10 yards after 3 downs, they kick a field goal if they are close enough to the endzone. Otherwise, they will punt the ball away to the other team. If they didn't punt and failed to gain the yards they needed on the 4th down, they would turn the ball over to the other team right at the spot where they were tackled. When they punt the ball away, then the opposing team has more yards to gain in order to score a touchdown. That's the most common way of losing possesion. Depending on the situation, teams sometimes take the chance on 4th down.

Other ways you can lose posssession are

    • Fumbling the football (getting the ball knocked out of your hands before you go down and the defense gets possession of the ball before the offense)
    • Getting intercepted (throwing the ball to the defensive team)
    • Safety (getting sacked in your own endzone)

    I get it.

The weirdest thing I saw was the quarterbacks deciding to simply throw the ball out of bounds and still getting a restart from that?.
