  1. Well, I think it’s time for my annual “final post of the year” thingy. I’m this one a bit earlier than usual, so hopefully no one snakes the honor from me As always, 2023 was a lively year on the forum. It felt like the year began with users trying to cancel each other over their opinions on one conflict, and ended with users trying to cancel each other over another. Still, it was nice interacting with all of you during another revolution around the Sun. Whether we were sharing retro video game footage during the TISC, or gasping in disbelief at Femke Bol’s infamous fall, the feeling of togetherness and shared excitement shone through once more. I would like to thank everyone who indulged my incessant posts in the multi-sports games section, shared results documents with me, aided my hosting of the TISC, or simply interacted with me on the forum. I’ve spoken about the personal importance of this website to me in the past, but I can’t understate what an impact it has on my life. It’s there when I want to chat with people; while I anxiously wait at the doctor/dentist/other mundane places; when I need the hottest gossip or newest info on major event, or when I simply need something to scroll through on my phone. I consider many users to be legitimate friends of mine, even if we’ve never met in person. I guess that’s the “true” Magic of Totallympics. I wanted to give a shoutout to @Sindo for keeping the forum online and open for another year. To the mod team, @vinipereira @hckošice (and anyone I’m forgetting) for trying to keep threads as civil as possible. To @Wumo for creating so many fun and competitive prediction contests (even if I’m not the most active in the that space). To @Cobi for organizing a wonderful annual edition of the TISC. To @OlympicIRL @mrv86 for their assistance in organizing the open edition of TISC. To @JoshMartini007 @Matej @Benolympique @Mateus Nagime @Laraja @Josh for the frequent and informative updates on Olympic qualification. To anyone who joined this madness this year and stuck around (I don’t have a full list unfortunately). To anyone who contributed to the forum in their own way. There’s a lot to look forward to next year; I’m sure none of you need a reminder, so I’ll simply wish all users, their families, their friends, and their fellow country people a wonderful and hopeful new year. I personally hold no ill will towards 2023, but it is exciting to flip the calendar back around and celebrate a new year. So with hope in our hearts and in eager anticipation of what lies ahead, let’s prepare to welcome the last Totallympics time zone to 2024 and 33rd modern Olympiad!

  3. THE LOGO The Radio is symbol of TAISC 2024 This year marks the centenary of the beginning of radio broadcasts in Italy (October 6th, 1924) In Italy, which on a technological level was the homeland of radio, use of radio transmissions was permitted only for military purposes, and a 1910 law prohibited its use by civilians. Only in 1924, a late compared to the rest of the world, began the commercial broadcasts. For the logo the radio chosen is Radio Cubo ts522, this model is designed in 1962 by architects Marco Zanuso and Richard Sapper and marketed since 1964 by Brionvega, an Italian company (active from 1945 to 1994) specialized in the consumer electronics sectors. Examples of this radio are permanently exhibited at the MOMA in New York and at the modern art museums of La Jolla, Osaka and Sao Paulo. Key dates of italian radio history In August 1924 the Italian Radio Union (URI) was born, it held the government concession to broadcast and there was only one radio station. January 1928 - URI becomes EIAR (Italian Auditing Body). Italian radio becomes a means of mass communication December 13th, 1931 the first radio commentary of the football match was broadcast (Italy vs Hungary) After the end of the war in 1944, Rai (Radio Audizioni Italiane) was born and the radio entered the homes of the majority of Italians. In 1950 the reform of the radio system established the creation of three networks In 1951 the first edition of the Sanremo Festival was broadcast live In 1976 did the RAI monopoly lapse thanks to a ruling by the Constitutional Court and the broadcasters already active in Italy (around 400), so-called "pirate radio" will then become "free radio" In the 1980s, private national radio stations began to emerge, many of which are still active today Italian committee: Henry_Leon @Pablita @Gianlu33 @SteveParker Big thanks at @vinipereira the author of the logo Eugenio Finardi - La Radio (1976-written by: Lucio Fabbri, Eugenio Finardi)

  4. Hi everyone, I’m so sorry for all your worry. I just had a few things going on offline but everything is ok. I’ll catch up with everything later today and I have not forgotten TISC. Thanks again for your concern, I feel embarrassed now.

  5. Paris 2024 Quota Simulation: 2023 Data Edition 2022 version of the simulation Hey fellow Totallympians! Happy New Year! If you were around in January last year, you might remember I made an Olympic quota simulation based on data from 2022. Given how popular the post was, I've decided to do another update. Over the last month, I've been gathering data from 2023 World Rankings and World Championships to try to see what each NOC team could look like in 2024. Once again, there are a few things to consider. Unlike the previous edition, Russia and Belarus are INCLUDED in this simulation. Thanks to the IOC inviting them to join, it's made it really annoying to simulate. Currently, I have them projected for 68 athletes. The problem however is that I based my simulation mostly on World Rankings and World Championship results. As a result, they are excluded from a lot of sports where they would be expected to qualify (especially with combat sports). I would expect the final number to be much higher than 68. North Korea is included in this simulation. They were absent from the previous edition. Refugee athletes aren't included Tuvalu is on the board this time! Last year, they were projected with 0 atheletes. This means that every NOC has at least one athlete qualified. This time, I decided to put myself in the shoes of the Netherlands and New Zealand NOC selectors. I rejected around 40 quotas between the two NOC's where they would have qualified otherwise. Simulated universality eligible NOC's are marked with an *. I took some more time to research the definition of an eligible NOC and as a result, Montenegro, Zambia, Iraq, Kuwait and Yemen are now marked as universality eligible in this simulation. The number beside the team size in brackets shows the change in team size from the last simulation to this one Some sports have their own Olympic rankings but that doesn't necessarily mean I used that to make my simulation. If the Olympic qualifying period started in 2022, then I used the Olympic rankings. If the qualifying period started after January 1, 2023, then I used the World Rankings. So for example, the athletics simulation was done using the world rankings instead of the "Road to Paris" rankings. Using the latter would result in athletes like Muzala Samukonga, Malaika Mihambo, and Kevin Mayer not being part of the simulation. This time, I made sure to review each qualification document to make sure that I simulate each sport correctly. Last time for example, I was unaware of the continental quota limit in taekwondo so this time, it's all fixed. Of course, mistakes are still possible so please let me know if there's any. Water Polo quotas have been changed from 12 athletes to 11 athletes to match the amended qualification document So without further ado, let's get started. Please let me know if you have any thoughts! 6. The year in sports brought a lot of joy and emotional moments to Totallympics members around the world. As we say goodbye to our annual awards, here's hope that 2024 can also be a memorable year for all sports fans, as we eagerly wait for the next Olympic Games. For now, we'll remember the moments that brought us together in 2023, presenting this edition's theme song: "Fight Song", by American singer and songwriter Rachel Platten. Thank you all! Have a great year and until the next Totallympics Awards!

  16. Happy Olympic Year to all my fellow Totallympians, can’t wait for Paris 2024! Hard to follow what @Olympian1010 just wrote, but here we go. What a year it’s been, from Niklas Edin’s iconic (once in a lifetime) curling shot, to Joan Verdu making history for Andorra in alpine skiiing by becoming the first from his country to stand on a podium in a winter Olympic sport, to MVDP’s fall in the men’s road race but soon after recovers to win gold at the Cycling World Championships, to some of my more personal highlights, like Canada’s surprise qualification for Paris in men’s volleyball (I still thank Bulgaria to this day), Connor Bedard’s 23 points at the Hockey World Juniors, to Vancouver Canucks’s unexpected early season success, and finally Canada’s qualification for Paris men’s basketball for the first time since 2000. Right, now time for my express my thanks to some of the users on here. @Olympian1010@Cobi thank you for another great year of TISC (even though I didn’t participate), @hckošice @maestro@phelps@Topicmaster1010@Benolympique@Cinnamon Bun (might be missing some) for your sporting updates, @heywoodu for never failing to make me laugh (seriously), @hckošice@vinipereira for your top notch moderation and keeping this site a safe place for others, @Wumo for all the fun prediction contests, (This year I ended up winning 1 gold, and 1 bronze in 8 contests entered, pretty horrible by my standards), @Laraja for all your work on the various Olympic/Paralympic Rankings. A special thanks to @Sindo for keeping this forum up and running, your hard work doesn’t go unnoticed. And finally, thank you to everyone who has contributed to this forum this year. May your 2024 be filled with health, happiness, and a whole lot of Olympic quotas/medals

I am going to watch the finals on court in coming days. Hopefully so happy everyday. I am already in love with Fukuoka.

  24. My personal votes and thoughts - - 12 (One of the clearest winner picks for me. Great vocals, visuals, arrangement. Plus, the Maori segments are beautiful. @Wanderer) - 11 (This was the only other song considered for my 12 points. It caught my attention quickly as well. It stood out from everything else, and the lyrics were interesting @Vektor) - 10 (I think we might have some overlapping taste @Vic Liu. I liked the "throwback" nature of this song, and the lyrics/video were fun.) - 9 (Just a fun, catchy, lively song. A nice ode to one's homeland @kungshamra71) - 8 (I like the risk you took with this @hckošice. It has a great message and stood out from many of the other entires.) - 7 (This is similar to some music I listen to more frequently. There was just something about it that keep me thinking about it @Wumo) - 6 (A nice dance/party track. It got points for the integration of Maltese @Glen) - 5 (Eley has a really good vocal. The song is a great pop track @Werloc) - 4 (Retro in a way that was fun and stuck out @Henry_Leon @Gianlu33 @Pablita) - 3 (Definitely an artist with a lot of promise @Hipooo) - 2 (This originally feel outside my points, but creeped it's way back in. The vocal is nice and lyrics are interesting enough @Benolympique @Bohemia) - 1 (This got me to move, and it was fun, so finally some points for you @konig) - R1 (Catchy, but just under the line for points @mrv86) - R2 (This almost snuck into the points. I'll be interested to see how she does at Eurovision @NikolaB) - R3 (Great vocal, a nice country vibe. I just couldn't find room for it in my points @Fer GUA) - R4 (I couldn't find the translated lyrics, and that hurt your chances for points @justony. The song was interesting, but I couldn't undertsand the message.)

  26. It was another great night of TISC, even more for those who stayed up until the end and didn't leave after the third session like I did . A huge thank you to everyone who voted for our song (@Henry_Leon, @Pablita, @SteveParker, @NikolaB, @Ionoutz24, @IoNuTzZ, @vinipereira, @Benolympique, @Bohemia, @konig, @LDOG, @ManuCHIL, @Illya, @Hipooo, @dezbee2008, @Olympian1010, @Wanderer, @Memo, @heywoodu, @Werloc, @Vektor, @kungshamra71, @Belle). I'm glad you liked it as much as we did. I think this contest had a very high level of quality, therefore I'm very happy with our 6th place. We chose a strong entry this year, Mantissa was a huge instant hit here when it was first released. Fun fact, Marina Satti and Michalis Kouinelis, who wrote the lyrics, had met when they worked together for the greek dubbing in Moana, a few months before doing Mantissa. Congratulations to @Cinnamon Bun on the win and to @Vektor, @Henry_Leon, @Pablita, @SteveParker on their medals . Congratulations to @Glen, @Makedonas and @Yannakis for our gold medal in the team event . A huge thank you to @Olympian1010 for all the hard work you put in order to overcome all the technical struggles and produce this great show . A few notes regarding our votes. Indonesia, Slovakia and Serbia were the first to miss out on our top 12. Italy and Brazil were the only nations that got points from all three members of our jury. Great Britain got our 12 points with a combined total of 22 points and Mexico got our 1 point with a combined total of 11 points. Serbian song was the only one that didn't get points, despite being voted by more than one jury member. From the songs I voted, 9 ended up receiving points from Greece. However, two of the three that didn't, were in my top 6. From the songs I voted, 8 ended up in the eventual top 12. Below is my personal ballot. 1st 12 pts Hungary 2nd 11 pts Great Britain 3rd 10 pts Croatia 4th 9 pts Germany 5th 8 pts Indonesia 6th 7 pts Slovakia 7th 6 pts Canada 8th 5 pts Netherlands 9th 4 pts Malta 10th 3 pts Mexico 11th 2 pts Italy 12th 1 pts Brazil Res1 Denmark Res2 Romania Res3 Spain I hope to see you all in the spring for the next TISC!

  27. Just for fun, if we were to take average finishing position of each voting slot, here is how the TISC Open 2023 final rankings would look. Who is ready to sign on the dotted line? @ManuCHIL @hckošice and @Vektor would probably be happy to On the other hand, things would not be looking quite so rosy for @heywoodu as both Netherlands and Brazil are propping up the table Chile 15.40 Slovakia 15.70 Hungary 16.15 Malta 16.60 Canada 16.74 Sweden 16.81 United States 17.05 China 17.05 Mexico 17.25 Great Britain 17.25 Greece 17.40 Israel 17.40 Croatia 18.05 Portugal 18.28 Argentina 18.40 New Zealand 18.45 Kazakhstan 18.55 Serbia 18.70 Spain 19.00 Italy 19.05 Turkey 19.10 Poland 19.40 Ukraine 19.40 Moldova 19.55 Czech Republic 20.20 Ireland 20.37 India 20.40 France 20.65 Germany 20.70 Slovenia 20.75 Romania 20.80 Denmark 21.05 Lithuania 21.30 Indonesia 21.82 Brazil 23.00 Netherlands 23.65

  28. TISC Returns to the USA! It is my great pleasure to formally announce the United States as the host of TISC Open 2023! . @Olympian1010 was the sole bid this time and it means TISC will return to the USA for a second time, 5 years after they first hosted TISC Open 2018. We are all excited to see what America has in store for us and we wish our hosts the very best of luck on their organisation of what will surely be another great contest!

  31. what a farcical day (week) of rowing basically, the draw in the preliminary heats did it all once you got stuck in lanes 5 and 6, the championship was over even before the start with a draw in lane 3/4, a miracle was needed to avoid the repechage round (and therefore being always in the less favourable lanes in the following rounds) and day after day, weather conditions are more and more unfair this is a recap of this morning's Olympic races with the lanes that won the places in the final (and at the Olympics): women's Pairs SF #1: (Lanes 1 - 2 - 4) SF #2: (Lanes 1 - 3 - 2) men's Pairs SF #1: (Lanes 1 - 2 - 4) SF #2: (Lanes 1 - 4 - 3) women's LW Double Sculls SF #1: (Lanes 1 - 2 - 4) SF #2: (Lanes 1 - 3 - 2) men's LW Double Sculls SF #1: (Lanes 1 - 3 - 2) SF #2: (Lanes 2 - 3 - 1) women's Fours SF #1: (Lanes 1 - 2 - 3) SF #2: (Lanes 1 - 2 - 3) men's Fours SF #1: (Lanes 2 - 1 - 3) SF #2: (Lanes 1 - 2 - 3) women's Quadruple Sculls SF #1: (Lanes 2 - 1 - 3) SF #2: (Lanes 1 - 2 - 4) men's Quadruple Sculls SF #1: (Lanes 1 - 2 - 4) SF #2: (Lanes 1 - 3 - 2) as you might see, no boat from lanes 5 or 6 has qualified, only a few from lane 4 (and almost all of them only in the first events, before 10.30 a.m.) and 13 out of 16 heats winners completed their race in lane 1 moreover, all this sh*t already killed at least 3 (if not 4) boats in the B-Final where only 1 more OQP will be awarded (those not racing in lane 1 or 2 will never have a chance) this is UNACCEPTABLE!

  32. 17 different countries won medals in Tokyo. 11 different countries won gold. Of the 14 golds won, 8 of them won by non-European nations Only gold won by Romania in Tokyo. 1 of 2 won by Ireland, Greece. 1 of 3 by Croatia One of the only sports where the USA didn’t win a medal Overall I think that’s a decent record.

  34. Now that it's all over, I'd like to offer my congratulations to @Gianlu33,@Henry_Leon, @Pablita, @SteveParker on their win , but also to @Wandererand @Belle on their medals . Extending my congratulations to @Henry_Leon, who run the contest smoothly throughout and hosted a great show this weekend . Thank you to those who voted for our song, @Roamingrover86, @OlympicIRL, @Wumo, @IoNuTzZ, @Wanderer, @vinipereira . Unfortunately my song choice proved to be completely unsuccessful and the result is rather awful, but it is what it is. We can only aim at better results from here. A huge thank you to our teammates @Belle, @Wanderer, @NikolaB, @Ionoutz24 . You gifted us the team event gold, as I think our song contributed just 7 points out of the 466. Below you can see my personal ballot. 1st 12 pts Netherlands 2nd 11 pts Spain 3rd 10 pts Indonesia 4th 9 pts Ireland 5th 8 pts United States 6th 7 pts Chile 7th 6 pts France 8th 5 pts Croatia 9th 4 pts India 10th 3 pts Portugal 11th 2 pts Brazil 12th 1 pts Czechia Res1 Great Britain Res2 New Zealand Res3 Sweden As a general comment, we were two jury members this time, however we voted 22 different songs. Brazil and Portugal were the only songs that got points from both of us. This was my 6th TISC. I haven't voted for the winning song twice and both times it was Italy. This was the first time that I didn't give points to any of the eventual medallists. New Zealand and Sweden were both among my reserves. I have never been as sure that a song is going to win, as I was with the Dutch entry this time. I'm very surprised it only got 10th place. As a whole, this was another fun experience and the fight for gold was thoroughly enjoyable. I'm looking forward to seeing all of you again in the next open contest this autumn!

I just wanted to say how much I rate this page and was blown away by the work that has gone into making it what it is today. I have a love for virtually all summer Olympic sports and have been checking in regularly to see how the shape up for Paris is looking. If there is anything I can do to help out let me know.

  41. Here's the direct Olympic qualification schedule. Overall up to 71 events will offer direct quotas to the Olympics (in archery, diving & tennis it depends on the results). I did not include trampoline since I am 99% sure we will qualify someone and thus the quota will be voided. All medal days except October 31st will offer quotas with October 23rd and November 4th offering quotas in 5 sports. 43. We're Number Four! Bronze, Silver, Gold Those Get So Old! Just Out the Door, It's Canada at Number Four! Not Third, Not Second, Not First But Certainly Not the Worst! Who Would Ever Want More Than Comfortable Number Four? Why Can't the Other Nations See We Don't Even Want Top Three Deep In Our National Core Is a Maple Syrup Drenched Number Four!
