  10. and now it's official! the IJF has officially registered Kim Polling's switch from to now she can represent with immediate effect Polling's words on the social media (in Italian...google might be helpful): "Ciao a tutti, mi chiamo Kim Polling e posso dirvi che da oggi posso rappresentare l’Italia.

  11. Chinese Olympic trials begins tomorrow. The rules is to choose the any best result of 3 events to compare: 1: 2023 WCH individual event finals and meeting OG standard A 2: 2024 WCH individual event finals and meeting OG standard A 3: 2024 trials individual event finals and meeting OG standard A So based on the past 2023 and 2024 WCH, following swimmers already have eligible results and green parts are almost safe enough to guarantee the tickets before the trials. For relay swimmers, mainly considering trials results.

  13. Update. Doctors have discovered that his condition is acute pancreatitis. It was severe at first (hence him being taken on an ambulance in extreme pain) but his condition got better after time. Today, that all changed, he got worse again and was taken into another wing of the hospital. He’s expected to stay there for about a couple of weeks, maybe even longer. Really hoping he can get well soon, it’s heartbreaking to see him in his current state

Ethan Katzberg with the meet of his life at the Kip Keino Classic. By a fucking mile. Before today his PB in men’s hammer throw was 81.25m at the 2023 World Championships, where he became a surprise World Champion. Starts off with 81.79m in R1, then 82.06m in R2, 81.50m in R4, 84.38m (!! yes you heard me right) in R5, and 83.26m in R6. That’s 5 marks under his previous PB (the other one was a foul), and a 3.13m improvement. Edit: Also moves him to #9 on the all-time list, none of the athletes above him are still competing. Not to mention he’s only 21 (!) years old, in an event where athletes don’t peak until later on in their career. @intoronto @Topicmaster1010 @james89 @orangeman @NearPup

  36. Is someone genuinely asking why Eastern bloc countries fell off in terms of sporting results after the arrival of democracy? East Germany only competed in 5 Olympics in rowing, but they won 48 medals, including 33 gold. They were only overtaken by the US in 2016 in the all time medal list (and they’re still ahead of the rest) In Athletics, there’s still several European records that exist since the 80s with East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria and the USSR all involved. This isn’t a slight on the fine people from Eastern Europe on here and the current athletes doing their best. But the answer to why they were so strong in the 1980s is doping. No one disputes this.

  42. no, that wasn't a robbery once in their lifetime, judges Today have been consistent through the whole day and Lyra was actually losing her technique once she was getting tired the capital mistake is absolutely on her, she knew she had 2 red cards already and didn't even think about slowing down the pace a bit and try to make her action correct again, so to save at least a medal (meanwhile the Japanese girl was really smart -as you would expect at this level of the game- and once she was joined by the Italian didn't even try to answer the attack because she knew that she was also on the edge of a penalty and any increase of the pace at that point would have meant another red card, so she smartly settled down for silver instead of taking useless risks)

They are predicting 1 silver and 4 bronzes: - Silver for the Group in Rhythmic Gymnastics; - Bronze for Stilyana Nikolova in Rhythmic Gymnastics individual; - Bronze for Svetlana Staneva in Boxing W57 kg; - Bronze for Bozhidar Andreev in Weightlifting M73 kg; - Bronze for Semen Novikov in Wrestling GR87 kg. Interestingly, Gracenote are not seeing any medal for Karlos Nasar in weightlifting 89kg
