    [OFF TOPIC] General Chat

Hi everyone! A bit of a family emergency is going on right now (my dad isn’t doing too well, he’s on his way to the hospital as I type this), which may explain my lack of inactivity on Totallympics and updating all of the various sporting events If anyone wants to post any of them that’ll be appreciated, and if not then I’ll post them when I’m fully back! Actually, it might even be within a few days. I’ve just thought about it, and when I’m not busy visiting him at the hospital, I might choose to watch/share results of some sports. Bit of a confusing response I know, but to explain my thought process, watching (along with playing, but irrelevant point) sports and sharing results on Totallympics are two of my favourite things to do. Trying to not worry too much when personal problems is hard for me, and it might be what I need to not freak out and have mental breakdowns every couple of minutes. But we’ll see.

  5. just asking myself why in this competition are there people that already achieved the qualification (and therefore can't get any other quota place) and/or why tare there those mixed team events that don't award any quota place? nor those events award points for the OQR/WR, therefore are absolutely useless for those who are not in the hunt for a quota place and actually only make a lot of confusion

  9. So I just totted up what I think are the totals for the OQT for USA, AUS, GBR, Japan, Italy, China and France, using the FINA LCM rankings from 1st March 23 to today. Those were the countries I thought might have a chance of being near the top of a list like this. There are other countries which are strong in part (Canadian & Dutch women) but less so collectively. I could be doing them a disservice not including them, but I was already looking at enough to fry my brain anyway Russia would likely be somewhere in there, but with their uncertain status about things, I've not included in these figures. USA - Men 83, Women 98 = 181 total Aus - Men 34, Women 60 = 94 total Japan - Men 38, Women 27 = 65 total China - Men 25, Women 39 = 64 total GBR - Men 34, Women 25 = 59 total Italy - Men 33, Women 14 = 47 total France - Men 25, Women 14 = 39 total These are qualified swims, not swimmers. So Duncan Scott - for example - is in the GBR quota 3 times (100m fr, 200m fr, 200m IM). It would take me a lot longer to work that out, at least for countries that are not GBR. GBR is 37 total swimmers with an OQT - 23 men and 14 women.

Solid results in the 200 free. Obviously Summer is a beast but I was definitely more excited about MSH going 1:56.76. 1:58s from Jansen and Brousseau are decent results at this point in time and of course it's great to see Penny getting better. Also in the 100m backstroke, 15 year old Madison Kryger set a new PB of 1:00.81.

Great that they’ll be streaming pretty much everything, but I hope they’ll have separate streams for track and all the various field events at Paris. Most the time on athletics streams they only show replays of field events, it’s rarely ever live. Canada has medal potential in both, and I wouldn’t want to miss anything live. Also hope that Brittany MacLean will be at Paris for swimming. Edit: Just messaged with Devin, the field events will have live streams as well.

  24. Approaching 100 days to go, my predictions for Day 1 20:55: Swimming - Women’s 400m Freestyle Final - Summer McIntosh (Silver) 21:37: Swimming - Women’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay Final - (Bronze) Day 2 20:45: Swimming - Women’s 100m Butterfly Final - Maggie MacNeil (Silver) Day 3 17:18-17:38: Judo - Women’s 57kg - Christa Deguchi (Gold) 20:30: Swimming - Women’s 400m Individual Medley - Summer McIntosh (Gold) Bronze in the women’s 200m freestyle if she chooses to do the double. She’ll have almost an hour and a half between both so it seems doable (but she’s also probably going to be swimming a rigorous schedule so maybe she’ll skip it) Day 4 17:18-17:38: Judo - Men’s 81kg - Francois Gauthier-Drapeau (Bronze) 17:49-18:09: Judo - Women’s 63kg - Catherine Beauchemin Pinard (Silver) 20:57: Swimming - Women’s 100m Backstroke - Kylie Masse (Bronze) Day 5 20:36: Swimming - Men’s 200m Butterfly Final - Illya Kharun (Silver, behind Milak) Day 6 20:30: Swimming - Women’s 200m Butterfly Final - Summer McIntosh (Gold) Day 8 15:30: Artistic Gymnastics - Men’s Floor - Felix Dolci (Bronze) 20:30: Swimming - Men’s 100m Butterfly Final - Josh Liendo (Bronze) 20:59: Swimming - Women’s 200m Individual Medley - Summer McIntosh (Gold) 21:45: Athletics - Men’s Decathlon - Pierce LePage (Gold) Day 9 19:35: Swimming - Women’s 4x100m Medley Relay Final (Bronze) 20:30: Athletics - Men’s Hammer Throw Final - Ethan Katzberg (Silver) Day 10 21:00/22:05: 3x3 Basketball - Women’s Tournament Medal Matches (Gold) Day 11 20:00: Athletics - Women’s Hammer Throw Final - Camryn Rogers (Bronze) Day 12 20:30: Athletics - Men’s 200m Final - Andre DeGrasse (Silver) Day 13 15:00: Weightlifting - Women’s 59kg - Maude Charron (Bronze) 19:27: Track Cycling - Men’s Omnium - Dylan Bibic (Silver) 19:40: Athletics - Women’s Shot Put Final - Sarah Mitton (Bronze) 19:45: Athletics - Men’s 4x100m Relay Final - Canada (Bronze) 21:00: Beach Volleyball - Women’s Bronze Medal Match - Melissa Humana-Parades/Brandie Wilkerson (Bronze) 21:07: Taekwondo - Women’s 57kg Bronze Medal Match - Skylar Park (Bronze) Day 14 11:00: Basketball - Men’s Bronze Medal Game - Canada (Bronze) 13:50: Canoe Sprint - Women’s C1-200m - Katie Vincent (Bronze) 19:25: Athletics - Men’s 800m Final - Marco Arop (Gold) 21:23: Breaking - B-Boys - Phil Wizard (Gold) 22:34: Boxing - Women’s 75kg Gold Medal Bout - Tammara Thibeault (Gold) Left off some other medal chances, think at least one other name/team that I haven’t mentioned will make the podium. Still very optimistic with this prediction considering our best ever result is 24 medals at Tokyo (I picked 30 events for Canada to win medals in) but we have a talent in McIntosh now.

  26. With just over 100 days to go I decided to do another medal prediction, but this time on a day to day basis. Day 11 Tuesday 6 August (1-2 medals) Sailing: Marit Bouwmeester (W dinghy) Track Cycling: M team sprint Day 12 Wednesday 7 August (0-1 medals) Sailing: Laila van der Meer / Bjarne Bouwer (mixed multihull) Day 13 Thursday 8 August (2-4 medals) Athletics: Femke Bol (W 400mH) Hockey: Men’s team Swimming: Sharon van Rouwendaal (W 10 km open water) Track cycling: Hetty van der Wouw (W Keirin) Day 14 Friday 9 August (2-4 medals) Athletics: Lieke Klaver (W 400m) Breaking: India Sardjoe (W breaking) Hockey: Women’s team Track Cycling: Harrie Lavreysen (M sprint) Day 15 Saturday 10 August (1-3 medals) Athletics: Women’s 4x400m relay and Abdi Nageeye (M marathon) Water polo: Women’s team Day 16 Sunday 11 August (1-2 medals) Athletics: Sifan Hassan (W marathon??) Track Cycling: Harrie Lavreysen (M keirin) Any day (0-2 medals) Surprise medals: preferrably Niels Laros (M 1500m) and W handball or volleyball team (what can I say, the more surprising the better) Total prediction (19-47 medals) +/- 10 golds +/- 11 silvers +/- 12 bronze I feel like the day-by-day version made the numbers too optimistic. Some names I'm thinking more like 'one out of these 4 judoka's will probably win a medal', but it shows as a medal chances on 4 days, instead of just 1 expected medal. Overall I'm a bit more optimistic than the 25 medals I predicted last time, I'll say 30 medals this time!

Men’s team through to the gold medal match at the Pan American Championships and are just one win away from an Olympic quota! Should we win against Colombia on Sunday (far from a given of course) it would be the first time we’ve had a team in archery since Beijing 2008.

  33. Quick midweek update on some trials/national meets this week: Hungary Most of the highlights have already been mentioned by other users on the forum. However, one swim was missed. Yesterday in the men's 200 IM, Gabor Zombori swam 1:57.88 to beat his lifetime best by over a second. That swim gets him under the OQT needed for the Olympics. South Africa (After 3 of 6 days) Josh has already mentioned Schoenmaker's time. However, in the same race, Kaylene Corbett also went 2:23.71 to also confirm her ticket to Paris. She has been 2:22 in the qualification period at WUGS. Pieter Coetze also went 1:55.85 in the 200m backstroke to confirm his spot in Paris. Matt Sates has the OQT in the 200m butterfly but wasn't quite able to clear the OQT at this meet. However, I believe South Africa does accept OQT's from outside the national championships if no swimmer hits it there. New Zealand (After 3 of 5 days) Eve Thomas successfully added the 1500m freestyle to her event lineup to go alongside the 400m and 800m freestyles. She won in 16:07.46 to get under the OQT. Hazel Ouwehand established a New Zealand Record in the Women's 100m Butterfly. Her time of 57.43 gets her a ticket to Paris. Erika Fairweather has been in fine form going 1:55.45 and 4:02.35 in the 200 and 400m freestyles. She's already qualified in both events. Lewis Clareburt is already in fine form. He went 1:47.18 and 3:46.85 in the 200 and 400m freestyles. Both PB's and the latter is under the OCT. These set him up well for his better 200m butterfly and 200m IM events later in the meet where he is still hunting down the OQT's. Despite achieving the OQT at the 2023 World Championships, Andrew Jeffcoat is in danger of missing the Olympics. He already failed to hit the OQT in the 100m backstroke and has one more chance in the 200m backstroke here.
