  1. Reading and watching videos about this subject, I would love in 3 months we all look back and say it was an overreaction. I just lost my mother and my aunt (my closest relative) in the last year to cancer. Now I live with my dad who isn't super old, but is within the danger zone. To think of losing him to COVID now is painful. Moving the Olympics a year sucks because I was really looking forward to it as always. But priorities have shifted. I am a history teacher. It's not names and dates, it's the people. I always said this to my students, but now more than ever: We are history. What will they read about us? It's never been easier to be a hero. Literally, do nothing. And wash your hands! Stay safe, friends!

  2. How was the decision taken too late, one month ago it was still mainly a Chinese thing, two weeks ago there were plenty of people still mocking Italians since it was only "mass hysteria" and there were public events with 100k people going on as usual even in Europe...I'd rather say the decision was taken too early, they could have waited one month to evaluate the situation.

  3. Just after the teleconference with Bach (unfortunately, among 400 journalists all over the world only big agencies from big countries got an opportunity to ask questions, so no news about what I wanted to ask - about moving events from Sapporo back to Tokyo in case of spring dates of Olympics and no news about the IOC Session or Athlete's Commission elections this year). This was the best part: German journalist: As there are talks that the decision is made too late, are you considering the resignation from presidency? Bach:No. Mark Adams:Next question from... 7. Hey, olympic fans. We could discuss, day after day, how the olympics would have lookood like if they were to happen in 2020 as planned. That could be fun, a nice discussion, good for the hard times when there are no live sport on tv and we are all fighting with this virus, It could look like this; Let;s pretend this is day -2, July 22nd What are your predictions for: 1/. SOFTBALL - Women's tournament Australia - Japan Italy - United States Mexico - Canada and a general question considering sotball - do you think playing softball games(opening event for the whole olympics) in Fukushima is a good idea? Is it safe out there after the earthquake and damaged reactor? Would these games be a success to show the world that it is safe and clear over there? 2./ FOOTBALL - Women's tournament The qualifications haven't finished yet. What are your predictions for remaining spots? I say CHINA will qualify with a win over Korea Republic And CHILE will qualify with a win over Cameroon I made a kind of draw for groups using FIFA ranking (and a rule that only one team from the same continental association in one group) and the first matches would be: what are your predictions? group A Japan - New Zealand Sweden - Canada group B United States - Great Britain China - Chile group C Netherlands - Brazil Australia - Zambia and a general question considering football - will Megan Rapinoe be one of the greatest stars of the Tokyo Olympics? How will her postmatch look like? Any strong opinions from her and interesting statements? and which player will score the most goals in opening matches? Let's play the predictons games. It may be fun. If you like it, I will prepare the questions for day 23th July later, Greetings, stay healthy, stay home! Rafal

  9. COLOMBIA This was the most listened song in Spain in 2019, so I thought about presenting it to represent Spain this year. Finally I selected the other song because I liked it more, but I will post the song here as the Colombian entry in the Festival of Music. It is a collab between the Spanish singer Rosalía and the Colombian singer J Balvin: Con Altura - ROSALÍA, J Balvin

  12. Today slightly more than 1000 recovered, but still nearly 700 deaths, with 5200 new cases. However, these data are better than those of yesterday. I was also giving a look at the number of patients recovered in intensive care, it seems that apart from Lombardy we can still take care of it, although with very very much fatigue. In addition to this, I gave a special look to data in Campania, my region: -58 person in intensive care, although today 18 new deaths were registered. As the Cotugno and Pascale hospitals in Naples were the first in Italy to test the tocilizumab drug, this MAY, (let me underline that it MAY), indicate that this drug can attenuate symptoms and give more time to the body to fight the virus.

  15. i think all qualification systems should remain the same , that'll be fair enough for all athletes , only those direct qualification tournaments which were cancelled should be rescheduled for another dates whether on the same country or another

  16. Spanish hospitals and their employees got emails with titles like "Information about COVID-19"....which included ransomware, which went on to lock the systems unless money is paid. I'd better not post what I hope happens to people who do that, especially in this situation.

  18. Much as I don't like Trump and even like the way he handles this less, talking about how to save the economy is an important thing. If you don't, and the whole thing collapses, it's going to cost a hell of a lot more lives than the virus itself. I know that is a sensitive argument for some people, mostly because the lives that are destroyed by a broken-down economy are less visible than those who are lost due to a virus, but they matter just as much. Trump didn't ask for the elderly to sacrifice themselves. Trump didn't openly call for millions to attend Easter gatherings and celebrations in person. He did say he has hope it'll be possible by then (which is way too early of course, as the great Dr Fauci more or less pointed out right after him), but we have to take care - especially now - not to twist his words into things he didn't actually say. You've got plenty of ammo if you only use the things he actually says and does, don't give him and his supporters more ammo by coming up with lies and semi-lies. Just like that 'you're a terrible reporter' thing, which was a bit dumb, but all the videos shown by the major media don't even show the part before, where said reporter just drones on and on, without even listening to the answer, and then just yells right over another reporter who's turn it was to ask a question.

  27. The qualification formats themselves will likely remain the same, just with different dates for events or cut-off for world rankings. There might be an option to increase quotas in some sports to allow athletes that greatly improve over the year to qualify, but couldn't due to their sport completing the qualification period. Though I feel that's unlikely or the quotas will be given in rare circumstances

  28. Iran had the record number of more than 2200 positive cases today. but they say that's only because they are improving the testing capability, beside that the situation is still the same, the number of deaths is still around something between 120-150 per day I think right now the only country not in lockdown is Iran even though we are slowly going to that direction, there will be more restriction starting from tomorrow, they are just wasting time. a complete lockdown is inevitable eventually, we can't keep the numbers "steady" forever.

  29. Karate already closed (one week ago) the ranking that was supposed to be closed on 6th April, so it's not like everywhere it will be this way. Canoe also made the decision they will change the system, but no final decision was done and thanks to that it might only end with postponing the qualifying event to 2021. But it all depends on the date of the Olympics itself - if it will be Summer 2021, the no problem - it will be done more a less as it was supposed to this year. But if it will be earlier, like spring, then the qualifier that was to be held in May 2020 cannot be in May 2021 but let's say March 2021. That already changes a lot in preparations (which we don't know when the athletes will be ready to start). Also for the rankings - there was to be three more World Cups and its Final in Modern Pentathlon. So there might either less time for rest between the World Cups or less events aka less chance to get points.

  30. It will be the same qualification process surely? Just events and tournaments not held in 2020 are held in 2021. All rankings will be frozen until 2021. Anyone who has already qualifies remains qualified. Seems only fair way.
    1 point
  31. Its still going to be the '2020' Olympics so all criteria will be the same. If you are ineligible for 2020 that will carry forward. All qualifying event due between March 2020 and June 2020 will simply be rescheduled to the same periods in 2021. Anyone qualified remains qualified. Only fair way. Similar was done in Golf for the 2001 Ryder Cup which was postponed until 2002 (9/11). The teams picked for 2001 played in 2002 regardless of how their form etc had changed since 2001. All rankings etc need to be frozen now until March 2021.

  33. It seems Germans are really anti-Bach - Hajo Seppelt, Jens Weinreich and the one who asked the question (I didn't notice the name). The other thing is they know him best from his DOSB work, so there needs to be something. But I agree that with Bach's many bad sides, this decision is not the one that should lead him out of the chair. And I'm afraid this will not happen next year either.

  35. swimming...she's a breastroke specialist, but she's a pure sprinter (last year she won the silver medal at the World Champs when she was 14 years young), not sure she's going to have a successful transition to the 100m in a short while...most likely, she'll never be as good over that distance as she already is over the 50m... by the way, this postponement is pure gold for Alex Schwazer, as this summer the Bolzano Trial Court is expected to publish the definitive pronounciation about the plot FIDAL & IAAF (with Russian cooperation) built against him... if he's finally judged not guilty of the 2016 doping episode he's been charged with, in 1 year he'll be able to make his ban lift (I hope, I wish)... by the way, for Italy there are a lot of athletes on the rise, most likely more than those having their chances fade away in the next 12 months (our current stars risking the most are surely Federica Pellegrini -swimming- and Elisa Di Francisca/Aldo Montano -fencing- maybe also Vincenzo Nibali -cycling...the rest of our team is not that young, but also not so old to be dismissed by a 1-year wait)...

  45. only young athletes ? because I can name Sohrab Moradi, he is still recovering from a surgery and one more year will give him a better chance to reach his max records. even though he is also getting older and beside that he still has to "qualify" and we have to wait to see the modified qualification rules. but one athlete I can name is Amir Hossein Zare in wrestling, he is 19 and he beat several world medalists already (including world champion Geno Petriashvili) but I think he needs 1 or 2 more years to become world #1. also I can name that Russian kid Kurban Shiraev I think he will beat world champion Gazhimurad Rashidov next year to be Russia's representative in Tokyo

  46. A not all-caps thread title as well, it's absolute anarchy. My first name is going to be Arno Kamminga. He might have already been a serious medal contender though, since he's been swimming incredibly fast in the breast stroke in the past few months. However, as he said himself, he has never made a big final yet and with another year to go, I think he's going for a medal in Tokyo

  47. To post my idea also in here. After we are done with TISC, we could select Eurovision winner for 2020. We could at first vote for songs, which should be contesting in 1st semifinal on 12th May, then 2nd semifinal and later on Grand Final. Of course you can not vote for your own country, in semis there would only be revealed songs, qualified to final (without any points), and so on. What do you think, is it possible?
