  1. I found out about this recently. It's not about historical sport pictures but about Olympic mascot's history. At 1980 Olympics besides Misha there was a mascot just for one sport - sailing. It's a baby seal Vigry. Estonian SSR chamber of commerce did a contest because sailing competitions were in Tallinn and this mascot won. Some information in English: source. Information in Russian.

  3. i'm already on it, but you're right it's a little too much. I'll start to upload the previews next week. So far the following quotas are 100% sure: in men's team pursuit. in men's team sprint in women's team sprint Even if they get disqualified at this year's worlds, they couldn't drop below 8th place.

  6. host countries usually try to take advantage but in certain countries in certain sports, there is no limit for them, they do EVERYTHING they can to get results. I'm saying this after years of following sports in Asia, specially this sport of wrestling ! Kazakhstan hosted the World Championship not long time ago and their average freestyle team finished 2nd !!!! I think they never even made it to top 10 before but this year all of a sudden 9 out of their 10 wrestlers received unbelievable easy draws ! I'm sure none of you guys believe me when I say the draw was fixed. you probably think "no way, that's not possible" but this is not co-incidence UWW changed the draw system after that.

  9. Dropping, the 'ice & snow' mantra seems like a very bad idea to me. Stuff need to have a meaning also. We would lose that meaning in that scenario. Besides, it's not like egyptian handball fans would suddenly become ski jumping fans, just because the two sports are held during the same olympics.

  10. lol, what about no ? Curling would never ever have been an olympic sport without the winter olympics. Neither sports like skeleton nor luge. They're minuscule sports worldwide. I mean just compare them to non summer olympic sports like karate, squash or baseball... People should just stop comparing both events, they're two different beasts and that's it. And that's fine.

  15. I am not following Badminton, but if said tournament is to take place in Wuhan city itself, its 100% that it will be moved as the city is under lockdown/quarantine (and probably will be for the foreseeable future) Whether or not it will be moved out of China altogether will probably depend on how this situation evolves in the coming weeks

  16. Badminton Asia Confederation definitely fear to bear the responsibility of athletes infection especially during the Olympic year. The host city is definitely gonna change, but if it's in China is still questionable.

  17. A lots of Olympic qualification events in February have moved to elsewhere outside China including boxing, basketball and football. Those will be held in March and April are not that urgent to decide. I suppose March events may suspend or change the location, April events may be held as usual if the virus is over. As the government putting all available resource to contain the virus spread including transport restriction in Wuhan and the social awareness arising to prevent the virus by 'strictly staying at home and cutting off social contact', I personally think the virus outbreak would gradually decrease in mid Feb and end in March

  18. If it was in another big Chinese city, meh, but yeah, considering it is in Wuhan itself it might be a good idea to move it

  20. I don't think they'll cancel or move an event this early. I would though be surprised if they don't consider moving it (especially as it's in Wuhan), maybe even already considering potential hosts (should be a bunch of potential hosts who could put it up fairly quick). Give it a bit more time, I would say.

  23. There are but 5 serious non European Winter Olympic countries -USA, Canada.Japan, China , Sth Korea ( and the last 2 are Olympic medal obsessives who will pour millions into any event on the Olympic ptogram even if previously unknown to them ) Other countries may win medals eg Australia & NZ but they are very sporty places who enter everything (& must compete in their summer )

  24. He is in deed a German. Together with Julian Autenrieth he won a Bronze at 2013 youth European Championships in the 470er class. Ironically, the Oceania quota place of ASA would have been reallocated to Germany (16th place at WCh in 2019).

  25. when the new rankings come out, it would be really helpful if someone who knows the intricacies of the UCI track ranking could do up a little preview of the World Championship and what possible qualification scenarios exist I realize it's probably far too much work though!

  28. Exactly 95 years ago was played the first ever international Ice Hockey game on Slovak soil, The European Championships in the lake of Štrbské Pleso It was supposed to be played in Prague, However, the weather came into play. Even during the Christmas holidays in the capital of the Czechoslovak Republic it was freezing strong enough, but immediately after the New Year there was a significant warming. The ice on the Slavia Prague rink melted and so the European Championships was supposed to be moved to the Jordán pond in the Czech city of Tábor according to plan B. The Sovakian city in the High Tatras Štrbské Pleso was supposed to be the last option. On the Jordan Pond, however, some holes appeared, and therefore the Minister of Industry Ladislav Novak at the Congress of the Ligue Internationale de Hockey sur Glace (LIHG), nowadays IIHF, on 6 January 1925 announced that the European Championship venue will be in the High Tatras and matches will take place on the natural ice of Strbske Pleso. Czechoslovakia (Team composed only by Czech players) won the title ahead of Austria and Switzerland
