  1. Some very personal thoughts for someone's first time as host: As first time host I did not really know what to expect. I had only previously been a spectator to one TISC and participated in one other, so my TISC-experience was quite small. Fortunately for me, I have had Agger as co-host who has participated many times in TISC and hosted one previously. I knew they were a lot preparation done before a TISC even opens. The most demanding thing during the preparation process was to come up with ideas and an a concept for this TISC. I'm not a person filled with many creative ideas, so this process felt at time frustrating. For me, I felt I had to live up to many different expectations from the users here on the forum. But due to not being overly creative, I often ended up being frustrated with myself. I began to question if I was a good enough host. It even develop into thinking if I was good enough as a person. TiSC and my studies took so much of my time that I did not have time to just sit down and relax. I was really stressed and I couldn't sleep much. This could not go on for much more time. One day, I sat down and said to myself, "Stop blaming yourself and try to live up to everybody's exceptions. Don't think you have to create something new, use ideas you like and adjust them to your liking". After this, I was much more at peace with myself. I started to believe in my own ideas and I didn't care if I used an idea someone had used before. It was okay. When the Grand Final ended yesterday evening/night, I cried, It had been such an emotional rollercoaster for me. All what I have written above seems to tell that I should have said stop during the process before it came to me questioning myself, and yes I should have probably done that, but I didn't. Instead I have been through a personal process where I have learned to accept my own limits. I never thought hosting a song contest on a sports forum would learn me something about my own personal life. I don't think my story is at all a good representaton of hosting an edition of TISC. Don't be scared to host. it's fun when your product is finally done, but it can feel frustrating during the process. TISC is, after all, about trying to create a stronger community here on Totallympics. I will give a special thank you to @Agger, @OlympicIRL and @vinipereira. Thanks to @Agger for the help preparing for TISC as co-host. Credits to his work on the presentation of the different cities and towns. Thanks to @OlympicIRL for his help with different ideas, especially his idea for a point format for the TISC Team Challenge. Thanks to @vinipereira for his help with the design of the logo. It would not have been possible without you. And lastly, thanks to all who have been so kind to have shown their interest and passion for TISC once again

  2. I came here to post my biannual thanks for this contest (a community, actually) and the first thing I see is a bestmen 2.0 from India with a lot of salt I mean, a lot of songs I like usually do average and I've gotten lucky with a few actually winning the contest, but English or not, if it's good, it's good, If it's shit, well... But first of all, I send my congrats to @Wumo and @Agger for hosting the contest. It was well-run, despite a few headaches (I know, I've been in your shoes before) and Wumo, I'm impressed you went from newbie to host in 12 months. I remember when you first came here wanting to watch it live, so I'm glad we made you feel welcomed @Olympian1010 and I worked hard to get our entry a good placing, so we're very glad it got 5th place, which is better than what we had earlier this year. I was worried about this a bit considering that we also sent fun to the contest last year, but I'm glad it turned out well. Congrats to @heywoodu for the victory on top of that Eurovision win. I'm not sure how you will juggle hosting both contest next year, should you go down that route, but I wish you good luck. Also, I didn't vote for you (but @Olympian1010 did), so that should've been an indication that you would win @KingOfTheRhinos, congrats on getting silver. @Olympian1010 liked the song more than I do (I gave you 3 points, sorry), but what a worthy runner-up. I was actually pulling for you to win @Belle Congrats on getting 3rd place. Yours was one of the few songs I knew about beforehand (the others were entries from France and Romania @Bohemia @Benolympique @IoNuTzZ) Thanks to the following for the points to our entry: 12 -- @Finnator123 (I knew I would count on you since we have nearly the same tastes) 11 -- @Ionoutz24 @OlympicIRL 10 -- @kungshamra71 9 -- @Glen 8 -- @Werloc @vinipereira @titicow @Fly_like_a_don @KingOfTheRhinos 7 -- @heywoodu @SteveParker @Henry_Leon @Gianlu33 @Pablita @Cobi @thepharoah @Bohemia @Benolympique 6 -- RIP 5 -- RIP 4 -- RIP 3 -- @Skijumpingmaster 2 -- @intoronto 1 -- @amen09 @tuniscof @justony Finally, here are my personal votes 12 Chile 11 Slovakia 10 France 9 Canada 8 Sweden 7 Mexico 6 Moldova 5 Ireland 4 Finland 3 Australia 2 Lithuania 1 Kazakhstan Reserves R1 Bulgaria R2 Italy R3 Spain R4 Algeria One more thing: #TISCinALG

  5. The point difference between the Top2 nations, Netherlands and Australia, per countries: NED +12 or +11 (4) - NED +10 or +9 (2) - NED +8 or +7 (3) - NED +6 or +5 (1) - NED +4 or +3 (2) - NED +2 or +1 (3) - 0 (6) - AUS +1 or +2 (5) - AUS +3 or +4 (2) - AUS +5 or +6 (3) - AUS +7 or +8 (3) - AUS +9 or +10 (2) - AUS +11 or +12 (1) - 15 countries preferred Netherlands and 16 preferred Australia. 6 didn't vote for them. Technically you can say that Netherlands won because it had more countries (4 vs. 1) in the +12 or +11 range, so it won thanks to Italy, Tunisia, Slovenia, and Egypt.

  7. But here are my personal votes: 12 pts. - The Stone Roses have played the by far worst concert I've ever been to, but I still love their music, I would have selected She Bangs the Drums instead, but still a great song and I'm really sad that it didn't end up better. 11 pts. - What can I say? Congratulations! I'm not always a big fan of the "electro swing" idea, but this one put me in a great mood. 10 pts. - Morten Harket has one of the greatest vocals of popular music (if you ask me). I would have prefered some A-ha song, but he has some very decent solo songs as well and this is a beauty. 9 pts. - Beautiful vocals and beautiful song 8 pts. - I hated this one the first time (not quite enough to cut it, though) but it really grew on me, especially the chorus. 7 pts. - I actually think this was the first song of this year to get stuck in my mind. Luckily for fine reasons. 6 pts. - Well. A very fine song that went up and down during my time trying to decide. Never really listened that much to the song though it's pretty famous in Denmark as well. 5 pts. - Started as my main contender for breaking the top 3 and I still really like the celtic style and her voice, but when I heard it some more times, it felt a bit too much like the same over and over, though still very nice. 4 pts. - Not the best of best, but I enjoyed the song and. Very clearly influenced by some of the greats of british music, the song makes me think of both The Verve and David Bowie, Too bad that it didn't end up with any points from us. 3 pts. - A nice, calm song. Folk music with some more modern inspiration. 2 pts. - I feel really sad that this one ended up 2nd to last. Maybe not the most modern song, but I really enjoyed the vocals and the piano. 1 pt. - I feel ashamed by myself for only giving Abba 1 point. But I'm really more of a "The Visitors" kind of guy and Mamma Mia simply didn't feel like the right thing for me this time. My reserves were , , and while , , and were in the mix as well.

  8. I gave my 12 points to a song where I did not understand a single word and I have no intention of ever learning the meaning of those lyrics. I loved the song and it means it’s own special thing to me. That’s it. Loving music is not scientific, using science or logic to try to decide what song deserves your points is completely alien to me. I have zero systems when it comes to voting, simply listen over and over and see what I connect with.

  9. I feel you. When Lithuania (to my huge surprise) actually won the Open TISC, I had the chance to relinquish my right to host (as Sweden and Germany have done before me). Knowing that I have zero capabilities in web design or design in general, I knew I was not fit for the task, but @OlympicIRL said that everything would be okay and that I would be guided through the design process. That was the sole reason why I decided to do something that I would have never done and it was the single opportunity that I had to host, because I didn't think that Lithuania could win ever again. I never planned to bid for hosting rights, because I thought that it would be ridiculous for me to do so, if I do not have those skills, I would be mocking the talented people that could have done more than me. Although, having won the competition, I felt it as a right of passage and I could not give up the opportunity. The struggle was real. I was not in a good place, when the competition was approaching. My studies were destroying everything around me and left me with little time to take care of myself, let alone sleep. At the same time I was balancing a career that was really sucking the energy out of me that I had left. Still, I managed to pull myself together for the show. I even had a huge fight with my management where I had to postpone the TISC for a week, because the band's manager decided to approve a concert on the day, which I marked as 'unavailable' two months ago, then proceeding to harrass me over the phone and me not being a capable liar, she started making fun of my 'little Internet contest' and not really in the mood to argue more, I asked the opinion of the forum members and they didn't mind me postponing with something like 2-3 days left until the contest had to be held. The day of the contest was somewhat close to Hell. Although, I already knew what to expect as I took up on hosting the draw game created by OlympicIRL to get the feeling of the process better before the big day. Add to that some connection problems as well as the fact that all of the flags in the templates just kept crashing throughout the entire day, I was just really looking forward to all of the breaks for recollecting myself and I don't believe that I actually ate that entire day Not to mention the fact that I was hosting in the dark times, where the host was expected to update the scoretable after every single voting post (add to that more than 50% of the nations did not vote themselves, so you had to post 6 templates in a 12 minute frame). So, having all that on my plate, I knew that preparing the scoring templates would have been a crazy amount of labour and did all of the counting and score adding live. To my dismay, I made one specific error that night, I gave 1 additional point to Algeria that they were not supposed to have and of course got a huge amount of shit for stealing points from the country when I actually fixed the error. Anyways, even after all that, I was glad that I did it. And I remember @OlympicIRL's congratulatory private message and if my memory doesn't give up me, we had a nice chat about everything after the contest

  11. The website never really opened in the 3rd session for me so couldn't post my vote. All other websites work fine but this doesn't open after 11.30pm and before 7am. Disaster! @Griff88 @Skijumpingmaster Both the songs were sure to be in 1st 2 after 1 listening. @hckosice I listened to this 5-6 times. It was in 3rd position till last 2 hearing but then the last minute was sorta making it bored. Lyrics were good. @Vektor I loved the instrumentals along with the music. @vinipereira @titicow A really interesting lyric video along with the music. @heywoodu The song wasn't bad, it wasn't a song it was a poem for me. And this getting the trophy is a disaster. If such good Indonesian entry can't earn at least 100 points I'm afraid any non -English song would ever do. My points were awarded pretty fairly with 30 points each for Music, Lyrics, Theme and 10 for something extra special. A total out of 100 was done. A suitable correction factor was applied a. If song was in native language then score * 1.25 b. If score was in English, with the language not spoken by more than 25% population or it is not the main language used in government papers then score *1 Our song may not be the best buy if this song can't get in top 25 I really doubt about the jury members. The problem is favouritism + some users " like some nations " rather than song and give their points. Come on TOISC can be renamed Totallympics Open Eurovision contest and US and Australia can be invited.

  14. My personal votes: 12 pts. - Amazing vocals from the great Morten Harket. The lyrics felt very personally to me and during my listenings I often shed a tear or two when listening to the song. 11 pts. - This song was already on my own playlist. This is one of my favourite songs by The Stone Roses. I simply adore it. It was long my canditate for the 12 points, but the Norwegian entry was, as I have described above, something truly special for me. 10 pts. - During my first couple of listenings, I didn't like this song. But after more listenings, it really grew on me. The chorus is really what makes this song great. The person or persons who composed this do know how to make a hell of catchy chorus. 9 pts. - This song is truly great. I don't understand a single word, but that doesn't affect this song. Amazing and mesmerizing vocals and great instrumentation overall. Some of the best folk music I have heard in a very long time. 8 pts. - Here comes a story. In my childhood, I was exposed to ABBA a lot, as my parents were and are massive fans of them. I have seen and heard many ABBA musicals. One time we were in Paris on vacation and we went in and saw an ABBA musical in one the theaters. It was in French of course and none of us understood much what was going on, but we just came to listen to the music. I'm impressed I haven't grew tired of their songs. They do really know how to write good pop songs. Mamma Mia is not at all my favourite ABBA song, but still enough to become fifth in my ranking. 7 pts. - A great song with a great message. Loved many elements in this song. Once again, the chorus was a big factor why it ended sixth in my ranking. From here, the songs were very close to each other. All good songs with some good or great elements. 6 pts. - Usually hiphop or hiphop-inspired songs are not really my taste. But the one factor this song came in, and you may have guessed it, the chorus. 5 pts. - It was not in my top 12 at first, but it was yet another song which grew on me the more I listened to it. The chorus has really get stuck in my head. 4 pts. - Electro-swing can be good and this was one of those cases for me. I like the overall vibe of the song. The chorus did not get stuck in my head, like some other songs on my list. However, the song is so good overall that it makes the cut. 3 pts. - I don't have any specific comments about this song. Good overall song, with a good chorus. I just like it. 2 pts. - The vibe/mood of this song is great. It's the reason why it makes my top 12. 1 pt. - It just feels good to have another rock song on the list. Reserves were . Portugal was particular close to make my top 12. Overall, I have 5-6 songs I like from this edition. But I will say, almost all other songs in this editon I wouldn't mind listen to from time to time. will be added to my own personal playlist. It's always good to have some new songs between my many 5-15 mins long progressive metal and melodic metalcore songs.

  15. Controversy alert! FEI made a change to the list of dressage qualifying events on October 31st update. As you can see HERE, they have removed the events which didn't have any 5* judges on the panel. These events no longer count for Olympic rankings, so for example Nicholas Wagner lost some points. That is all fine and dandy. HOWEVER, they didn't do a very good job when removing such ineligible events. Ukraine hosted a whole bunch of events with no 5* judges, and yet these events were not removed (for now): CDI-W Zhashkiv (1-3 March) CDI-W Zhashkiv (8-10 March) CDI-W Kiev (10-12 May) CDI-W Kharkiv (13-15 September) This inconsistency massively influences Olympic rankings. If these were removed, Inna Logutenkova stands to lose almost 500 points! Aaaand... Removing these events would put Michael Bugan into Olympic qualifcation position instead. I am taking this to public if it doesn't get fixed in the upcoming days, come hell or high water.

  22. It’s just hard to appreciate a song I can’t understand. I to give quite a few points to foreign language entries, but in the case I just love Riptide and Liquid Lunch too much. Here’s my personal voting everyone, forgot to post it earlier : 12 pts: I mean come on, one of the best songs of the decade 11 pts: Very under-appreciated . Absolutely beautiful. Great choice @Vektor. Loved it from the minute I heard it. 10 pts: This one grew on me. Totally didn’t expect it to be the Danish entry (I just used the playlist, so as too avoid making political decisions). Would have made @Wumo and @Agger day I think 9 pts: Great choice @heywoodu. Loved it from the minute I heard it (thought it was New Zealand at first). I just decided to award it a bit less than the others. Tone was perfect, lyrics were fun, and the voice had a good level of mastery. 8 pts: @Manulete Another great entry. This is one of three songs to have made my main playlist from this TISC 7 pts: (0 pts ) 6 pts: @Skijumpingmaster This is song is in my genre of preference, but it just didn’t have the wow quality of others. A good entry nonetheless. I fully didn’t expect it to get points, but it grew on me when it mattered. 5 pts: best performance by an Arabic song @amen09. I could tell it was from the Arab Spring and Tunisia right away ? 4 pts: @Griff88 unlike your voting, this song was not ass. The genre wasn’t my taste, but it definitely deserved points nonetheless. I agree with @Fly_like_a_don that the song punched under its weight (though I think the top 7-8 are correct) 3 pts: @Belle You submitted my childhood. Road trips with a Mamma Mia! CD. I knew all the words, but honestly, I like the cover more. Still the song deserves points. 2 pts: @IoNuTzZ For some reason I know this song well. Again, it just wasn’t as good as the top 6 or so, but another solid entry. 1 pt: @rybak I really liked this song, but in this case the language barrier killed you. As I said earlier, I enjoyed the risk you took. R1: (would have received 1 pt ?) @dcro Bold risk going with a instrumental song. I just couldn’t get myself to give it more points, though it fully deserved a better final ranking. R2: @Glen I know I haven’t given you a lot of points, but I love the songs you share. I eagerly await your annual entry. R3: @Fly_like_a_don Fully expected this song to be in my top 5, but in the end, it just didn’t click with me. Still very thankful that you shared your entry with us. R4: Qazakstan ?. Music video was a bit much for me. Surprising entry nonetheless. A big thanks to @Wumo and @Agger for hosting a wonderful, albeit quite gaffed, edition of the TISC. Completely enjoyed my time on this thread. Huge shoutout to all the participating juries. I love competing in this competition and learning through this cultural exchange. Honestly one of the best parts of the forum. Hope to see everyone participating again in the Spring. In closing, Spain 12

You did great! Congrats to the podium! And yes, GBR song is completely something I adore! The Stone Roses are one of my 100 favourite bands I was delighted when @uk12points selceted them! And thank you again @Werloc for another song I fell in love with. Was on reply for so looong. I still like Kitoks Pasaulis a bit more, but this one was such a fun! Brazil always sends something I like and this time Argentina did as well! @DaniSRB finally selecting a song I like and, I would like to thank @Vektor on amazing selection. I listened to the music following the original lyrics and I had some goosebumps while listening to the song. Anyway, to finish last, I did not expect. I mean, c'mon, the song I selected really was not that bad. I thought I would be hanging around 25-30, but this is really a blow. 48. 2019 TOISC Logo The logo for TOISC 2019 can finally be revealed! The Host Jury will be honest and say it has not been easy to come to this final product, due to the lack of any creative sense from the members of the Host Jury with regards to designing a logo. The Host Jury has had many struggles throughout the process due to many unconstructed ideas. With all of this said, it's only suitable to thank the amazing @vinipereira and his magical skills when it comes to logo designs. It would have never been possible to create a logo without your help. A big thank you, @vinipereira, from the bottom of the members of the Host Jury's hearts. The colour scheme of the logo is inspired by the colours in the Totallympics' logo and the host country, Denmark. The font should have symbolized the historic focus the host jury has had in this TISC, but it symbolizes something more of a Disney aesthetics. The D in particular has been a talking point, as it screams Disney. However, in an afterthought, it is quite fitting to have something which is more Disney inspired, as one of Denmark's most renowned authors Hans Christian Andersen's work, "The Little Mermaid", is a classic disney tale. The two singing birds illustrate the many different musical styles, genres and cultures TISC embody, as all songs in each single edition of TISC create their own unique "note" for that specific edition of TISC.
