  1. Final Standing available here vinipereira Dunadan George_D Well, it's been ages since @vinipereira won a medal in prediction contests, let alone a gold one. He finally gets a reward for all the logos he's been making for our contest Congratulation on great picking in one of the very unpredictable contests (minus Simone Biles ) Well done! Shocking news, @Dunadan wins "only" silver this time Got beaten by one point, but nevertheless, congratulation on new silver medal @George_D is on a roll, I already lost count of his medals this season. Very good picking! Congrats on another bronze medal I would like to thank @thiago_simoes on his help in this contest preparation. Thank you all who participated! Let's finish rugby and take a little break before Tennis Finals start.

  2. Brigid Kosgei just won the women's race at the Chicago Marathon in 2h14mins04secs, which is the new women's Marathon World Record (and this is a real record, not the farce of the sub-2 hours by Eliud Kipchoge yesterday in Vienna, made with laser guidance and 37 pace makers running only just over a kilometer each)...

  4. yes, it's a new rule brought in with this new format...and using a replacement, it costs "only" 20 pens, which doesn't kill your chances at 100% to me, this new format is better than the previous one...I'm always against discarded scores...if you're competing, your score must count...

  7. There is a near imperceptible moment when Lodadio's forearms are used for him to keep balance in a handstand. This deducts 0.3 from his final score. It's one of those things that casual fans don't see, but judges are very careful when judging. It was a fair result, though Çolak also had some errors, of course. Last year we had a much better final when it comes to the execution of skills, but this year was a lot more unpredictable. Great final, still.

  8. will try to qualify for 2022 Olympics in this sport. @dcro He is fundraising here. "Hello! My name is Amadou Krubally. I'm dreaming of my country The Gambia to compete for the first time at the Winter Olympic Games 2022 in Beijing. I decided to do Skeleton, which means throwing myself down an ice channel on a small board, head-first. I founded IceGambia, a federation that let's me be a member of the official Bobsleigh&Skeleton organization. The only thing that is missing are the funds for this season. Please help support the crazy idea of a crazy guy doing a crazy sport just to see his country compete. With € 15000 I can do the whole season (Europe Cup/International Cup) and qualify for the Winter Olympic Games. Help me write history!"

  9. So, I don’t want to say I was right in my views about Poland, but... The international trend of young people voting far-left is very interesting. Definitely something to monitor over the next few years. The older generations are voting further and further right, while the younger generations are voting further and further left. Very interesting. US election will have similar trend. I’ll have to look back and forward at other elections to further study this trend. I think we may be on the verge of moving from far-right to far-left very quick.

  11. Indeed. I planned to, but eventually forgot to point out that Stockholm 1956 saw the only previous Egyptian Olympic jumping team. Congratulations.

  14. I meant they are not replaceable during the event unlike say a bicycle during the road race or time trial. I just wonder if we'll all be saying it is entirely fair if a nation gets through the cross country phase with three clear rounds and is comfortably leading the competition but is then forced to withdraw following the intervention of the veterinarians. As I say I'm just playing devil's advocate as I don't believe it is directly comparable with other sports. In any event there are are other events where an individual can perform poorly and still get a medal and I'm thinking particularly of all the other team sports.

  15. Yeah, that is literally nobody's mindset.

  16. Well, they can bring forward a substitution in such unlikely case, which does not necessarily prevent them from being contenders. I prefer that over someone like Julia Krajewski bringing home a medal despite getting eliminated for 3 refusals. New Zealand took 20 penalties for a substitution here, and yet they finished ahead of 3 nations who did not bring subs. Hell, Germany could have still easily won had they brought in a sub.

  19. First round results 1 10 13 20 21 21 Apparently every Group F team will be allowed to start in the second round, even if they are outside of Top 8. Good thing FEI is not as stupid as FIBA and UEFA. Egyptians just need to show up basically.

  21. I hope it's like you wrote...but I fear that disciplinary sanctions would stay also under the IOC governed quali and actual Olympic Tournament... we'll see... frankly, I didn't want to write anything about the match itself because it's obvious that I'm biased (it's always a plot against Italy also when we're not involved at all ), but c'mon! for what reason the Welsh team felt that they had to appeal that verdict? Fontijn dominated the bout from start to finish, Price was only launching herself against the Dutch girls and hold for the entire match and she landed only 1 clean shot in the whole fight (in the last 15 seconds of the 3rd round) and already the judges came out with a close 3-2 score for Fontijn... and still they found the way to overturn that already crazy enough result in an absolute scandal...

  23. but the IOC having discredited AIBA and having their own qualifiers ......... AIBA can at best say that she cannot participate in further AIBA world championships but will not have any voice in the olympic qualifiers ........ which why Netherlands probably felt they could afford to do this

  27. Gold for Brazil !!! @thiago_simoes @vinipereira . Great swim from her. She lead the entire 5km I’m pretty sure. She only came under pressure around the 4km mark, but then she pulled away again.

  29. Andrew Nicholson shared an interesting point of view regarding the new Olympic team format. "This way is going to make it very exciting. You’ve got to try to get three clear rounds – they don’t have to go flat out. I think it’ll be very difficult for some riders to take team orders, and I think it’ll be difficult for team managers, but I can see it looking very exciting. It puts a lot of pressure on the riders. I’ve thought for years that it’s odd that riders at the Olympics win medals for doing a bad job, sometimes – I’ve done it myself, but you don’t see any of the other sports do that. In a relay race, if you drop the baton, you’re out – so making all three scores count is more the way sport is in the Olympic Games. Everyone has to do their best.”

  33. Women's gymnastics is at one of the lowest points in history when it comes to judging. The US, Russia and China are always massively overscored, with the occasional country (Canada, Belgium and now Italy) getting fair results here and there (though Belgium has received scores much higher than their gymnasts deserved this year).

  34. Brazil will be the champions. After winning their first 2 games Egypt lost 7 in a row even lost to Tunisia. Japan are great but it's not a surprise to me since they are taking the cup very seriously. And in the middle there are 5 teams tied with record 4-5. I think our team will probably finish 5th, which is a lot better than I expected.
