  1. Canada v Ireland in hockey.... thank the Lord it's not on the ice

  2. All team sports should follow the FIH model of Olympic qualifiers. Its simple, makes sure the best teams compete and is cost effective. No need to get fancy.

  3. I'm sure they know that. there are 1 or 2 Iranians working for UWW. I understand athletes with long surnames, that's their own fault not adding a space between parts of their names but the funny thing is they are making it even worst by adding father's name. no other sport federation does that . which is not part of the name in Iran. (the Iranian naming system is like yours, but some names are consisted of 2 or 3 parts) let me make it easier for you. this is how we know them in Iran. Freestyle: 57: Reza Ahmadali ATRINAGHARCHI ==> Reza Atri 61: Behnam Eshagh EHSANPOOR ==> Behnam Ehsanpour 65: Amirmohammad Babak YAZDANICHERATI ==> Amir Mohammad Yazdani 70: Yones Aliakbar EMAMICHOGHAEI ==> Younes Emami 74: Reza Alireza AFZALIPAEMAMI ==> Reza Afzali 79: Bahman Mohammad TEYMOURI ==> Bahman Teymouri 86: Hassan Aliazam YAZDANICHARATI ==> Hassan Yazdani 92: Alireza Mohammad KARIMIMACHIANI ==> Alireza Karimi 97: Ali Khalil SHABANIBENGAR ==> Ali Shaabani 125: Yadollah Mohammadkazem MOHEBI ==> Yadollah Mohebbi Greco-Roman 55: Pouya Mohammad NASERPOUR ==> Pouya Nasserpour 60: Ali Reza Ayat Ollah NEJATI ==> Alireza Nejati 63: Meysam Karamali DALKHANI ==> Meysam Delkhani 67: Hamed Mousa TAB ==> Hamed Tab 72: Amin Yavar KAVIYANINEJAD ==> Amin Kavianinejad 77: Mohammadali Abdolhamid GERAEI ==> Mohammad Ali Geraei 82: Saeid Morad ABDVALI ==> Saeid Abdevali 87: Ramin Soltanmorad TAHERISARTANG ==> Ramin Taheri 97: Mohammadhadi Abdollah SARAVI ==> Mohammad Hadi Saravi 130: Amir Mohammadali GHASEMIMONJEZI ==> Amir Ghasemi-Monjazi there are only 4 former world medalists in this team. we had some surprising decisions by our coach, leaving Hossein Nouri and Mehdi Aliyari ( world bronze medalists in 2017 and 2018) at home. this is a very young team, 8 of them will have their first ever World Senior Champs and 4 of them were in our junior team last year !!! in freestyle we had some disappointing news in past couple of weeks, Reza Yazdani and Parviz Hadi (at least Hadi was a sure medal) had to withdraw because of injuries. we have some very good medal chances for non-Olympic weights but I think the only guaranteed Olympic quota is 86kg Hassan Yazdani who will win the gold most probably. for the rest we have to wait and see. most of them are very young and they can surprise everybody. and speaking about medals. I'm sure about two medals in freestyle, anything else will depend on the draw. our 97kg guy is also promising he might do some damages. in Greco I have absolutely no idea what to expect. Iran got some great results in World Juniors in past couple of years. this team is mostly based on those Junior teams. I think 72 and 82 are our best chances for the gold (both of them non-Olympic weights unfortunately) I think the only weight with absolutely no chance for Iran is 74kg. Afzali is probably the worst wrestler Iran sent to the World Championship in past 20 years.

  4. Who has qualified for the OQT. None of this is official, I am just basing it off current rankings, and so things could change. OQT: 3 of Serbia/Spain/France/Poland/Czech Republic Lithuania Italy Greece Russia Brazil Venezuela Puerto Rico Dominican Republic Germany New Zealand Tunisia Canada Turkey Wild Cards: Slovenia (Europe) Croatia (Europe) China (Asia) Philippines (Asia) Senegal (Africa) Angola (Africa) Mexico (Americas) Uruguay (Americas)

  7. The refs basically decided that game when they called that more than questionable offensive foul on Giannis. Not a good look for FIBA.

  8. Poland with another 0-0 snoozer vs Austria. We're so useless lately but the group is so weak it's impossible not to qualify from it

  9. Exciting finish for the World Challenge Cup circuit. I still had no chance to watch the routines because I've been dealing with the loss of a beloved relative, but once I manage to gather enough strength, I hope to watch the routines. Amazing results for Italy. I'm very curious about the routines now.

  11. well this is not an insurance for anything... "our" guys named before already competed last year at the European (Kudiiiamagomedov) and/or World Championships (Conyedo even won the bronze medal) among the seniors, but because the UWW and the IOC rules in terms of elegibility are completely different, this year they can't be on the mat... I know, it looks crazy, but this is how it works with UWW...

  12. This is sad... My friend is probably shaking her head at the moment. She is Slovakian-Hungarian and she often tells me how annoyed and frustrated she is about situations like these. She wishes people like those tonight at the stadium would at least act like decent people and show some respect to each other no matter what ethnicity they are.

  13. yes, no mistake...he's really listed in the 79kg class... @hckosice about Gulaev...is there a chance that he's not yet eligible for an Olympic qualification tournament because of the stricter IOC rules on changing Nationality (like our Cuban and Russian guys)? meanwhile, for what concerns Italy, it's confirmed that we won't be able to start Abraham Conyedo (men's FS -97kg) nor Shamil Kudiiamagomedov (men's FS -86kg) nor Nikoloz Kakhelashvili (men's GR -97kg, replaced by "granny" Daigoro Timoncini)... that fuck*n' Italian burocracy! our team will feature only: - Givi Davidovi (FS -57kg) - Frank Chamizo Marquez (FS -74kg) - Jacopo Sandron (GR -60kg) - Riccardo Vito Abbrescia (GR -77kg) - Fabio Parisi (GR -87kg) - Daigoro Timoncini (GR -97kg) - Arianna Carieri (WW -57kg) - Aurora Campagna (WW -62kg) - Dalma Caneva (WW -68kg) - Eleni Pjollaj (WW -76kg) p.s. @MHSN why don't you write a letter to UWW explaining the correct interpretation of the names of the Iranian athletes? I'm looking at the entry list and I see some scary 200-letter names which I'm sure they are not the right ones...

  14. Yeah very disappointing loss for my Lions. I can only hope the season gets better here. It probably won’t, but having hope the first few weeks is always fun. My best saying case for being a Lions that I tell people is “At least as a Lions fan, I never have to worry about the playoffs, or watching American Football past January”

  16. China got two wins at the World Cup. I think China will keep its place as the best Asian team in the world ranking (didn't count AUS/IRN/NZL) I highly doubt China doesn't make it but if they don't want to participate that's another story.

  18. I think Philippines will lose few places in FIBA world ranking after the world cup. they are only 17pts ahead of South Korea right now. I assume South Korea will be the 2nd Asian team the other 7 teams will be most probably the same as you said.

  20. Predicting 1/4 finals isnt easy but i will try. 1. Serbia has all in their hands, but now this could be even distaster. Before yesterday i would say that Argentina is clear outsider but now... things has changed. Serbia is in bad mood, Spain showed their weakness, there was tragic event in Micic familly,Serbia wont have any training session before the game. Considering all that, there is 50-50% chance. I wouldnt be surprised to see Serbia lose. 2. USA - France. USA improves match by match. Their level is ascending. France is also good but i am not so sure that they can beat USA, not in this round. I thought that USA has weakest team in years but even with this team they can win a gold. Conclusion is that no matter what names are in USA team,as long as they play in NBA and have good coach, they are still better than rest of the world. 3. Spain - Poland. Even though Poland is great, their road should end here. Spain will rise after great victory over Serbia. 4. Australia - Czech Republic. Australia is clear favorite but they shouldnt underestimate Czech team. So, my picks for 1/2 final are Argentina - USA, Spain - Australia.

  25. Nothing questionable about that foul. It was clear defensive foul, guy moved all the way, never stopped. To make that call against player like Giannins and to make him that his 5th foul is a joke. Refereeing is terrible, nothing better is expected because 3rd tier refs are there, but FIBA should be abolished, burned to the ground, then risen again just to be burned again, it's such travesty of an organization, complete morons.

  27. But Rabobank never introduced itself as 'the banking team' or something, or BORA as 'the cooking team' (sure, there's Sagan's commercials), or Sunweb as 'the travelling team' or INEOS as 'the chemical team'. Dimension Data/MTN Qhubeka branded itself as Africa's Team since it started and always, always was talking about giving all those young talented Africans chances at the highest levels. Now all they do in that regard is give an accidental African here or there a small chance, but mostly rely on either old Europeans that used to be good or middle-aged (from a sports perspective) Europeans who never really have been very good at all, and present them like the next awesome big thing. It's not about 'Team from X doesn't have a lot of riders from X', it's about how it's sad to see a promising philosophy going down the drain into obscurity. Especially in a time when one could have quite a decent team with Africans only...at least Amanuel is still doing something good for Dimension Data, pretty much their only bright spot at the moment. Also, apart from the whole Africa thing, it's kinda laughable how time and time again they manage to make their team even less impressive with their new signings. I really don't know any other team that manages to go downhill so fast, year after year, in terms of who they sign.

  30. The square union in principle is for Israel but my question is who would be the 1st book union, because the following are the Dutch and Spanish 2 and have fallen into the same round of repescas. If the Israelite classified in the 2020 world or would have a vacancy for who would be the square of the 1st reservation?

  32. sure? those in round #6 should be 6th at worst... correct me, if I'm wrong... the top 2 in round 6 will advance to the final, meanwhile the 3rd and 4th ranked should go to the repechage #10 with only 1 heat of 4 surfers (and the top 2 advancing to the final, meanwhile the 3rd and 4th ranked should end the competition as 5th and 6th)... because repechage 9 should feature only 1 heat of 4 surfers, the top 2 of the 2 rep. 8 heats (with 2 advancing from rep. 9 to rep. 10)... 7th and 8th overall should be the 2 rep. 9 losers...

yes, she's guaranteed a top 6 finish, if I'm not wrong about the competition format (in any case, there are only 12 girls left, so she can't be worse than 12th)...

  34. it's because those 2 weights have been created by merging the old bantam+feather (it was 54 and 57) and the old Lightweights+light welterweights (it was 60 and 64) to cut from 10 to 8 the total number of weight classes... therefore, as they don't have an official name for the new classes, there's some confusion within the media, calling the new weights with one or the other old name indifferently... that's why I agree at 100% with @heywoodu...they should just name them by their actual weight limit and stop... I mean, the names are absolutely relative...for instance, to me 91kg are small men, just like flyweights

  36. Abrines left NBA in January due to a a depression and he decided to stop playing basketball this year until July, when he signed with FC Barcelona, so he was not available. Mirotic was called but he refused to come because he wanted a break after a long NBA season. Serge Ibaka (Raptors) and Chacho Rodríguez (Olimpia Milano) also declined being part of the team this year.
