  1. Actually in the end the male open water swimmers selected won't compete in the pool. So we have 34 in the pool events (18 men + 16 women) and 4 in Open Water (2 each gender), but Viviane Jungblut will also compete in the pool so that equals 37 athletes (the list is in this post). Brazil could have opted to send 2 more female athletes but the level isn't great.

Well. A few points about the Danish election wednesday. 1: The anti immigration parties lost... or did they? The 3 parties focusing the most on immigration didn't do very well. The Danish Peoples Party lost 21 of their 37 seats, the slightly more right wing The New Right only just managed to get it taking 4 seats (but as a new party getting elected is hard itself) while Hard Line, the most extreme of the parties, didn't manage to get elected being 0,2 % below the threshold. But 20 of the 21 seats lost by DPP was gained by parties who have moved to a more sceptical position on immigration. But with Liberal Alliance losing 9 seats, it seems like the more pro-immigration parties gained a bit of ground with especially the Social-liberal party and the socialist people's party gaining 15 seats. This will also be one of the main struggles when it comes to a new government as all parties of the red block are more positive than the expected governing party, the Social Democrats. 2: The tendencies from the EP-election kept on. The parties who won the election, The liberal party, The social-liberal party, the socialist peoples party and the conservative party who had the best results were the ones gaining the most in the national parliament. The red-green alliance surprisingly lost a mandate after looking like a winner for a long time. 3: Government could be far away. The members f te "red block" could very well have a long summer holiday of negotiations. The 3 major struggles could very well be retirement, economy and immigration. It will be tough and a worst case scenarion could be another election in less than half a year, while another scenario could be the Social Democrats using the Liberal Party, maybe even talking about a government with them (I doubt this will happen). They sound positive so far, but it will be tough. And as a side note, two good friends of mine were elected, including Katrine Robsøe who I did quite a bit of campaigning for!

  11. I'm surprised by Italy's win as well, not that they are a bad team, but because I thought Australia had the potential to reach semifinals (and maybe still has). I'm fearful for Brazil at the next match.

  16. Yes, I think more than one should make it to the freestyle. Interestingly, all of the selected combinations are based in Mexico. On paper, Mexico should have an upper hand over Brazil among the big tour combinations. Del Valle could be particularly valuable, as she has been knocking on the 70% mark recently. Small tour portion is harder to predict, but it could probably go either way compared to Brazilian rivals for the team bronze and an Olympic spot...

  19. Anybody who even comes up with those 'innovative' pieces of horse shit should go with them. So what, football fans are now going to watch athletics because there's 'quarter finals' in the long jump? Or because race walkers aren't going for 50km but only 20km now? Or millions of new people are gonna watch the Diamond League because they won't run further than 3km anymore? Fuck that shit.

  25. by the way, this new attitude towards the goalkeepers during the execution of any penalty shot (and the chance to support it through the VAR) is really annoying... they're just making a lot of injustice and taking most of the excitement off... basically, if the goalkeeper doesn't anticipate where the shot is going and start a fraction before the ball is actually hit, there's no chance to even imagine to stop a well placed penalty shot...you can only sit in the middle of the goal and hope that your rival throws the ball out of the stadium by himself (or attempts a silly shot in the middle of the goal, so to be already there to stop it without a single move)... I'm very much against this "evolution", take the VAR away from this kind of evaluation!
