  1. Hello everyone, from 2019 on, we will have a sports calendar here on Totallympics, with the aim of having the most detailed list of all the international sports events going on day by day/week by week/month by month, both for winter and summer sports, both for Olympic and non-Olympic sports. Here is the link to the Calendar and you can also see a shortcut in the home page under the Totallympics logo. The instructions for the Calendar are really quite simple, you can choose 4 different views, by month, by week, by day or "Event Stream" which is a more detailed list by month (the monthly view can get very "heavy" when there are a lot of events going on). All the users will be able to add a new event to the calendar, so to make this project successful we need the help of all of you. If you want to add a new event to the calendar, you just have to click on "Create Event" You can then choose if you want to add the event in the Summer Sports, Winter Sports or Multi-Sport Games calendar and you will be redirected to another page in which you have to choose the dates the event is running: You should always select "This is an all day event" (We are not adding timings to the sport events, it's ok they cover all day). And if the event last for more than one unselect "Single day event" and you will then have to add the Event End. In the bottom part you have a normal text box where you can add the details of the event. You can try and follow the format of the other events already added in the Calendar (example) and a moderator will fix the format if necessary. We are trying to keep track of every single international event (so the National Championships will not be added unless they are with international participation) so the most events we have in the calendar, the better it is. In the following post you will find a list of the sports already added and those already to add in the Calendar for 2019. Keep in mind you can keep adding new events for each sport when you spot a new event which is missing in the calendar. I hope you enjoy it and with the community help we can have the most detailed sports calendar around the web

  2. I really need to make a list and add something to it every time something happens, because I watched way too much to be able to recall everything These kind of threads for me are mostly a matter of reading and thinking "ah yeah, that's true!"

  3. That's the Kata olympic format in the post above. Here's the link to download the new rulebook https://wkf.net/pdf/rules/WKF Competition Rules 2019_EN.pdf-eng.pdf in case anyone is interested

  5. I think open bidding should be given priority if the winner refuse to host. After all, those who bid are willing to do their best and I think we understand the compromise around the job. Again, priority should be given to first time hosts, with their chances in a game of luck being greater than those of previous hosts. Also, it could also be good to establish a period in which repeated winners or bidders can't host. Let's say one year for winners and three years for previous hosts. I think the rule should stay the same; imo, it is fair enough as it will avoid seeing "ghost entries" and/or "users", who won't commit to the process.

  7. Let's see, I'll write everything I did 1. Click 'Unread content' 2. On that page, select Content Types --> Topics --> Apply Changes 3. Save As New Stream --> Enter name 'Unread topics' 4. Click 'Set as your default stream' Much better, that's how it is supposed to look (for me) (condensed instead of expanded and no calendar events, just unread threads) Grazie

  9. I especially liked the way she managed to fuck up the moment of a young player's first Grand Slam win by making even that be all about her, wonderful athlete.

  10. nice game between CZE and SUI, with the Swiss that take only 1 point away, but with a lot of regrets, as they were definitely the most dangerous team through the 60-min regulation... only a great game by the Czech goalie Dostal denied them the 3 points in the standings, meanwhile the Swiss netminder Hollenstein was the weak side for his team (I'm not saying he's responsible for the 2 Czech goals, but for sure he wasn't perfect...and not only in those 2 situations)... Slovakia...almost, but not quite... still, they got close to another upset of the mighty US team... quite surprised by the Swedish victory over Finland (I really thought that FIN this time has the best team of the tournament)... no comment on the Canadian mercyless destruction of Denmark (but I think the Europeans have the most responsibility for that to happen, even if I didn't watch the game)...

  11. I agree...wasting 1 round to eliminate just 2 athletes out of 10 doesn't make a lot of sense, but after watching at least 2 consecutive Games where in women's waterpolo they didn't eliminate a single team in the group stage (all 8 teams advancing to quarterfinals) or Eights crews in Rowing with heats and repechage (2 rounds!) used to eliminate just 1 single boat, nothing's gonna surprise me anymore in terms of weird and senseless competition formats (and it's gonna happen also in Tokyo, with the Baseball tournament -the craziest and most unfair format I haver seen at the Olympics)... p.s. keeping the score of both rounds would be a good idea...and I also would ask the athletes to perform 2 different Kata in round #1 and round #2 (not daring to ask for a 3rd different Kata in the finals yet, though)...

  13. For me: - first waterpolo National Team game in my home city (unfortunately big loss against Germany - when I watched their game against Italy with my friends in Budapest they said that Germans are really weak - then I told them whom the Germans have beaten in the qualification...) - my first journey for my beloved modern pentathlon to Hungary (as the reporter of Polish Modern Pentathlon Association) - finally satisfactory competition by women's volleyball team and I had the opportunity to see it from the tribune in Bydgoszcz (unfortunately I didn't get the accreditation as there was very limited place for journalists there) - great Christmas gift from Cuban women volleyball team that gave up the Olympic qualification giving the spot to our girls - and a bitter sweet story about the death of our First Lady of Sport - Irena Szewińska. Just three weeks before her death I met her at the Olympic Picnic in Warsaw and took a photo with her. Probably I'm one of the last people to get photo with her.

  14. I lived two magical weeks at the youth olympics. An opportunity to live olympics in my country that probably won't repeat in my lifetime. Other than that I found the sports year boring in general. I don't care much about the winter olympics (also didn't help that our tv didn't broadcast it for the first time in two decades) and Argentina performed TERRIBLE in all my favorite summer sports. So, I'll make an average and say "satisfactory"

  15. naaa... it's only because you like the wrong sports... if you were a (Ice) Hockey (and/or American Football) fan, from today to new year's day you'd have the busiest week of the year... p.s. watching tv series is still a very good plan B, however...

  19. Ski jumper, Thea Kleven, has died at the young age of 17. The ski jumper Thea Kleven died on December 17. She was one of the jumpers on the "Project 2022" initiative towards the Beijing Olympics. The Ski Federation writes this in a press release: - The whole ski jumping family is in mourning after Thea's demise. Our thoughts are with the family in this difficult time. At the same time, it is important for me that we do everything we can to help jumpers on the team with support over their loss of a good team mate. Additional resources have been put in place to help the team in their grief. This has strongly influenced us all, and it has been toughest for all the female ski jumpers on the Norwegian national team. We will never forget Thea. She participated in our "Project-2022" and had a bright future in ski jumping. Thea had all the prerequisites for becoming a ski jumper of international format, and her participation in the World Cup testifies how great faith we had in her. Now I would like your all to respect that her family and her team mates get some peace in a holiday that has become very different for us than we expected, says ski jumping manager, Clas Brede Braaten. Furthermore, NSF writes: - There will be no further comments from managers, trainers or athletes in the Norwegian Ski Association, and we ask the medias to respect the family's desire to have peace of mind in this difficult time.
