  1. At the moment I am travelling from Rhosllanerchrugog to Llanfihangel-y-Creuddyn. I can not complain about Polish place names....

  2. Starting from the fact that I'm politically distant from the minister, or better, I'm politically opposite to the minister and to this government in general. It is difficult to trust this government, apart from the ideas they have towards Europe that are silly, to say the least. The fact is that this minister, that is the actual leader of the government, is in contrast with the other (supposed, but in practice inconsistent) leader of the government, who is totally against the olympics. And this contrast is exacerbated by the fact that a third city (Turin), whose goverment is of the same party of this second minister, has withdrawn from the bid. All this premise to say these two things: 1) not sure if this government will last to next summer (but even next spring), so probably they won't give any decision; 2) Italian politics is a mess and find something trustworthy is almost impossible, and this since the end of WWII. However, my opinion is that in practice a way to have political and financial support from the government will be found, especially if Stockholm withdraws, officially or not. Also considering what happened in Veneto, that is where Cortina stays, this is a good chance to have external fundings to make that region on its track again. In theory.

  4. Well the state, especially LA is home to Little Sri Lanka, multiple Koreatowns, multiple Chinatowns, Little Armenia (which constitutes one of the biggest minorities in the state), and Orange Country has become Tehran 2.0 in a few areas. LA is so diverse that our voting ballots are offered in 17 languages (and that’s just for the county). California has some very unique immigrant communities. In fact half of my classmates families are first or second generation immigrants in the US. My school in particular has around 50 foreign nationals, and live in a suburb! My favorite immigrant community in California is Solvang. It’s a town founded by Danish immigrants in one of the most beautiful parts of the state, it’s even been a host to numerous Tour of California stages. So, as you can tell I take a little pride in being a Californian. That also means that I’ve exposed to a lot of foreign food, such as Korean soda, Mexico street vendor food, all types of Asian cuisine, European candy and sandwiches, Midwest barbecue, Poké, Sushi, gelato.

  5. Jarritos is pretty well established in California too, but I’ve had and seen it sold in other states. I think it’s better than most American soda brands. Korean soda is also quite available in Southern California

  6. Here if you say hi in Japanese or Chinese in a Japanese or Chinese restaurant they're just like "huh? Dude stop" I think I had pastel too in Brazil (Brasilia), but again that's too long ago to be sure of which kind exactly.

  7. Yeah that's a hard pass on the shrimps, but thanks for the rest I believe I tried caldo de cana when I was in Brazil, but that's too long ago to really remember it. I do know I tried coconut water straight from a fresh-cut coconut and now, 9,5 years later, I'm still trying to get that taste out of my mouth. I'll probably only have 1-2 full days in São Paulo though (and longer in São Carlos and Caraguatatuba, but especially in that second one I'm already promised several churrasco's ), so I'll have to make some choices (and it's not entirely up to me), but the pastel definitely sounds like a must-try. One with cheese, one with ground meat, one with chicken, one with ham and maybe one with shrimps so I can say "I'm getting fat, I'll just not eat the shrimps one".

  8. It is! There's a very easy way to do it by putting a can of condensed milk in a pressure cooker and boil it for 35 minutes (link here with instructions in Portuguese). If you want to buy it pre-made, the best brand, in my opinion, is Uruguay's Lapataia. It's worth every cent. My favorite thing to do there is to visit a neighborhood called Liberdade. It has lots of stores that sell Japanese snacks, cookies, drinks and candies. You can buy packs of sushi, onigiri, lotus flower root snacks (they taste really good) and drinks like Calpis and Ramune. Also, there's a street fair where you can eat all sorts of food, like takoyaki, gyoza, tempura and nikuman. I recommend eating lamen in a restaurant, too. There's a very good one, but I can't remember the name (I'll look for it). You should also try Bolivian and Peruvian food if you haven't tried yet. I believe you've tried Mexican food as well, but if you haven't, there are some good restaurants there too. There are also nice Korean restaurants, though they are not my favorite, at all. You should also try Argentine empanadas. There's a fast food restaurant that serves some delicious ones, and I assume it will be easy to find its address online. If you want typical food from São Paulo, you have to go to the municipal market and ask for pastel (deep fried crust pie filled with either cheese, ground meat, chicken, ham or shrimps) and drink caldo de cana (sugarcane juice).

  9. I kind of figured that was inevitable given his debut World Cup season last year. He looks better than Sung dis four years out of Pyeongchang.

  11. Guyana kinda feels out of place there, like you're going to a decent restaurant and they have three options: their specialty pasta with some kind of fancy sauce, an expensive piece of meat cut specifically to your wishes, or five French fries. Cool though

  14. Not about what Salvini said, but the article also mentions the dispute between the government and CONI, which is heating up: the CONI president (who is also a newly elected IOC member) was furious today https://www.ansa.it/english/news/sports/2018/11/15/malago-blasts-govts-coni-reform_50e37f2c-cead-4e09-ad48-839e22d741c5.html ... this conflict is quite dangerous for the bid.

  16. yeah...but we still have to wait and see if by next year this government is still in charge... and trust me...from now to the next July (and after, if we really get the chance to host the Games) you'll hear everything and the opposite of that from our politicians... any question is good to feed their propaganda... however, the Olympic news never make the headlines...those are all focused on the fight vs the EU because of the balance law and on our internal political fights (today's one is on the law for the reconstruction's funding of the Genua bridge collapsed a few months ago)... and the sports news are always only about football and F1/Valentino Rossi...

  26. I want them all! Especially the watermelon, tamarind and guava variations. There are local brands in Brazil that market unusual flavors like pineapple and tangerine too. There's even a brand that created a soda made of leaves from a Brazilian plant called chapéu de couro, a rather bizarre choice for a soda variation. The funny thing is that this drink, called Mineirinho, is somewhat popular in the state of Rio de Janeiro. @heywoodu, have you drunk Mineirinho?

  27. In Mexico, Coca Cola made a similar beverage from guaraná called Senzao some years ago... I liked it when I was in middle school, but after that I found it rather sweet, but that could be from some change in the soda's formula. In Mexico there are a number of local produced sodas and soft drinks; among the most known are "Jarritos" ("little jugs") which are made from tropical fruits like pinneaple, guava, mandarin, watermelon, tamarind and even hibiscus flower. Another popular drink, especially among kids is Tonicol, a drink made from vanilla extract

  32. What's the best selling beverage (preferentially non-alcoholic) unique to your country? In Brazil we all drink guaraná, and even Fanta decided to create their own soda version of the drink.
