  4. My last day at the youth olympic park Today I was at boxing. Some pics of medal ceremonies, gold medalist Brian Arregui taking pictures with fans, gold medalist Panpatchara Somnuek and her crew, and the cauldron... which will sadly be extinguished tomorrow.

  6. if I'm not wrong he made the headlines at the time for having the longest surname ever at the Olympics. as I said before there is not a single report in Iran naming him anything beside Mohammadpour . again they forgot a space. btw now he is famous for something else beside his name. he became Olympic Champion few years later ! while finished 5th in actual tournament. but top 4 tested positive for drugs. he will receive his medal after 6 years .and 2 years ago I was the first person contacting him telling him that. even though he didn't believe me in first place

  7. Ok I've read the article and if I got the facts correctly, in Argentina there's a prohibition to advertise and hand out sodas to children and teenagers due to health concerns because of their sugar and sodium levels. So a NGO requested the Argentinian judicial system a precautory meassure to declare unconstitutional and annul a public contract between the city's covernment and Coca Cola, by which the former agreed to pay Coca Cola $35 million local currency to allow them to distribute their product during the Games refering to it as a "hidratation" service According to the article the court's (IDIOTIC & UNLAWFUL) ruling stated: 1) that Coke's products weren't covered by said health prohibition. 2) that the judicial system could not enforce the city to apply those restrictions since this was a power reserved to the legislative branch. 3) and finally, that to annul the contract would damage the development of an international event like the YOG's So in summary, this corrupt pathetic excuse of a judge basically and plainly stated that law is to be ignored by private economic interest. That my friends in Latin American constitutional theory of the XXth and XXIst centuries at its best.

  14. Rules have changed since 2014, now they rank all teams eliminated in the same round by wins, points, set ratio, etc. See the difference in the final standings: 2014 http://poland2014.fivb.org/en/competition/final-standing 2018 http://italy-bulgaria2018.fivb.com/en/competition/final-standing

  16. Our flagbearer at the opening won a bronze-medal bout in boxing. Now, I hate boxing, but I sympathize with the kid: he had a lot of pressure on him, first for being the flagbearer, and second because he's the grandson of Servílio de Oliveira, who won the first Olympic medal in boxing for Brazil (a bronze medal in 1968). The biggest media coverage in Brazil around the YOG was about him, so I can imagine how hard it must have been for the poor kid. (Professinal) Boxing was huge when I was younger, and even today it has its loyal supporters in Brazil (especially in the Northeastern region of the country). So, we'll end up with 13 medals (11 medals now + 2 finals, one in boxing and one in futsal), a surprising number considering I expected 5 medal at most before the Games started. It's nice to see youth sport is not dead in Brazil.

  23. It is actually very annoying for many of us Indians as well. The thing is that a large number of our wrestlers and boxers come from the state of Haryana. Now I am no expert in the subject, and somebody can correct me if I am wrong, but from what I understand, many people in Haryana believe in never ever using your surname with your name because your surname identifies your caste. There has been some unfortunate caste-based violence in the past in Haryana and, as a result, many believe that the best way to avoid it is to just never ever reveal your caste as it doesn't matter. In fact, I think some of the big boxing and wrestling stables in Haryana actually have a rule that you are not allowed to use your surname.

  24. commentators for Karate have no clue about the rules JPN-THA match ended up 3-3 and the Japanese won the match by the Senshu rule ! but since they didn't know what the hell is this. they thought she won the match by "superiority" PS: Senshou means whoever scores first will have advantage in case of tie at the end. (senshu gets cancelled if you pick up a penalty in last 15 seconds)
