  3. Not magically. It was a huge effort by local and international NGO's working to make people understand that they should stay away from people who died from ebola. The main reason for the danger and spread was bad education.

  4. People love hysteria. Ebola was very popular in 2014, to an extent that Liberia and Sierra Leone were banned from competing at YOG... I haven't heard anything about Ebola for at least one year, it magically vanished.

  5. These are good advice, and in most cases the athletes/tourists should follow these recommendations even without the risk of getting the zika virus... like safe sex.

  6. I wouldn't hold your breath, FINA hasn't even released the qualified athlete list for diving. I'm hoping we'll get it over the next two weeks.

  8. So finally I get to answer to those two questions: 1 - C) I understand the reasons for the rule, but I'm not in favor of a restriction that forbidds songs from the last 2 or 3 years. I think a reasonable answer would be to forbidd songs from the current year (as they have a exclusive and dedicated contest to do it, the Annual Contest), but from that year only. Though I also like older music, that might not be the case for every user as some of you may prefer recent music, and I don't think that one should force other users to send older music just because I want to listen to a specific kind of songs. I find my interest in this contest as a friendly oportunity to discover new songs/artists, and I honestly don't care at all if the song is from the 60's or from 2014, so I would clearly vote to change this rule. 2- A) not to follow the group, as I follow only my own opinion : those who win should be the preffered organizers, only if that doesn't happen a bid should be made. Why? Because it's a contest, and the winner should be awarded of course

  9. Italy is the favourite. Croatia would be huge surprise, they don't have point guard and center depth. Greece is behind Italy, they have big advantage under the basket on position 5 against Italy but their guards are pretty weak. But they are tough team to beat and it should be very interesting.

  14. here my choice: Question 1 (a) I liked it and would like all TISC Open Contests in the foreseeable future to continue with that rule Question 2 (a) The previous winner should always have the first option to host the contest

  15. Yes, but the team should erase the last 5 quarters they played in this tournament from their minds (the 4th vs India and all vs NZL) and never, never again remember them

    India National Thread

Regarding Swimming Qualification, below is the summary of the qualification procedure, as understood by me. All swimmers with OQT are eligible to compete in Olympics as long as NOC limit per event is followed. After this FINA adds relay only swimmers (swimmers who are part of relay team as declared by NOCs and not part of any individual event). Next FINA keeps aside quotas for Universality places. Then FINA would start inviting swimmers from OST pool. This will be done based on rankings in individual events and not overall rankings, meaning that all first ranked eligible OST swimmers in each event would be selected first, then second and so on till total quota of 900 is reached. After this, FINA gives Universality quotas to nations with no qualified swimmer (max 1 swimmer per gender). FINA only guarantees that all nations with a swimmer at Kazan Championships will be represented at Rio. It does not guarantee that such nations will have swimmers of both genders at Olympics. Any swimmer who participated at World Championships is eligible for Universality quota. S/he does not need to reach OST to be selected. No Indian has reached OQT. I don't think any Indian is high enough in ranking to get invited on basis of OST timing. So, only chance of qualification is Universality quotas. Now, as stated above, we are guaranteed to have one swimmer. Most likely it would be male swimmer (higher ranking). Whether we have a female swimmer or not will be known only when FINA declares the universality quota. Regarding the male swimmer, there is some confusion over how male swimmer would be chosen. For London Olympics, Gagan Ullalmath was chosen in 1500m Freestyle, without him having achieved OST, ahead of couple of swimmers who had achieved OST. I am not sure whether FINA made that decision or Swimming Federation of India bungled up. So, we can't be sure about who will represent India till 5th July.
