THe FIS has changed the cross country qualification for Beijing, the TOP 33 women's countries get an additional quota (if I understand the system correctly) @heywoodu

Yep, substantial changes to the qualification system. Link: https://assets.fis-ski.com/image/upload/v1621925106/fis-prod/assets/Beijing_2022_-_Qualification_System_-_Cross-Country_Skiing_V2.0.pdf

Requirements for the women’s basic quota have been changed as well: “The basic quota for one (1) female athlete will be assigned to all NOCs who have at least one (1) female athlete scoring less than 330 FIS points (including penalty) at one (1) individual competition held at the FIS Nordic World Championships 2021 (including the qualification race) or at the FIS Under-23 World Championships 2021.”

Not gonna lie, the first half of your sentence scared me, then I saw the second half and realized it's actually not bad news at all :p

It won't matter for Brazil though, since FIS has finally published the official Nations Ranking and Brazil is very firmly inside the top-30 (as we suspected, but never had official yet)!

So with this new thing, Croatia and Australia somehow escape from their own ignorance :yikes: And Armenia gets lucky.

That’s probably why they changed it. For Olympico-political reasons, sports like to have multi-continental representation, so now that S America are safely in, they want to get Oceania as well.

Oceania was already in, just with one instead of two women's quotas :p

If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Full story and how to help can be found here!

With this rule change, :HUN:GRE:MGL:BIH:MKD have all met the world championship criteria for a women’s basic quota.
