Thank you! This shows a much clearer picture of where rhythmic gymnastics stands and how it fits in the so-called "gender equality" proposal. I am one of the only ones here who likes the idea to push gender equality, but I was worried about how the IOC is going to make it work. This document explains things a lot better.

Rhythmic gymnastics seems that balances the number of events for the genders in gymnastics since male events are +2 more in artistic gymnastics

So the problem is with art swimming since we don't have more male events in aquatics

But as long as we have extras in wrestling (Greco-roman) we need extra women somewhere else.

In terms of medals, men are still +5 thanks to 6 extra Greco-Roman and 1 extra boxing events on the men's side and is only offset by 2 artistic swimming events on the women's side. The extra events in men's artistic gymnastics are cancelled out by the two women's rhythmic gymnastics events.

In terms of athlete numbers men have +72 in football, +96 in Greco-Roman wrestling and +22 in water polo while the women have +96 in artistic swimming and +94 in rhythmic gymnastics which creates a net zero difference.

It'll be interesting to see what the IOC will do to make medal events equal. The simplest thing would be to drop the extra boxing event (so it's 6+6) and to add the individual apparatus medals for rhythmic gymnastics. I'm not a big fan of making each rhythmic apparatus a medal event, but the alternative would be to drop rhythmic gymnastics and either don't award medals for individual artistic gymnastics apparatuses or to somehow make the women's artistic event have six apparatuses (among other changes).
