This year decision was easy to make! Marlon Williams gets the opportunity to represent New Zealand, with his new solo album My Boy. More about it you can find here https://www.marlonwilliams.co.nz/bio

Born and raised in Christchurch port suburb of Lyttelton, music started early for young Marlon Williams, though the trail to his chosen alternative-country discipline was hardly flagged. His father sang in a punk band, but with a blend of Ngāi Tahu and Ngāi Tai blood he inevitably did a bit of singing at the local marae, harmonising around the house along with his mum. Church and school choirs later helped polish his natural vocal skills. Gram Parsons was his first country record and, as he tells Silke Hartung, Marlon knew then that this was the music he himself wanted to make.

Marlon Williams - Thinking of Nina

Lyrics

Does she love me

Real trust is thin on the ground

Would she tell me or would that be breaking promises to somebody else

Please don’t mistake my intentions

I believe in love under certain conditions

But tonight I’m thinking of Nina

Said she’d meet me

Down at the station at a quarter to ten

Missed connection

Now I don’t think I’ll ever see her again

Don’t take offence at the notion

I believe in love

I just have my suspicions

Oh no

But tonight I’m thinking of Nina

Must be scary

Just making out like you got skin in the game

Trouble trouble

When you playin with hearts then you playin with shame

Wish she could give me a reason

But more than that

I believe in love

I believe in love, wish I could give her her freedom

Ooh but I believe in love

But I believe in love

And it’s not my place, not my place to say

Ooh but you’re in trouble now

T-t-t-t-trouble now

I think I have found the Hungarian submission, but it might be my strangest submission since Open 2020. The Open 2020 Hungarian song got by far the fewest points since I joined this contest, so... I will have to figure out if I want to risk competing for the last place again. :d

That sounds exciting to me :d

I mean, I don't want to oversell it, I just went with more well-known artists or popular artists recently since I flopped in Open 2020. The artists of the song that I am thinking of submitting are a bit less known than Carson Coma, but they are still kinda mainstream. I am not bold enough to go with something that goes completely against song contest conventions. :d (I will provide an example in the music thread)

Heľenine oči - Káva (Coffee)

For this year, the always handsome Slovak jury decided to pick something different, a song from the Eastern Slovak city of Prešov based band named Heľenine oči (Hellen´s eyes).

The group formed in 1999 still successfully avoids any genre categorization, and use several pieces of Rock, Folk, Pop, Reggae, Ska or even Metal music.

The entry is from their last year album "Cirkus 22"

So without further ado. Here Káva. Coffee in English.

Enjoy

Spoiler
Bola to láska, leto bolo fajn,
Stretli se niekde na jarmoku,
Na koncerte Branislava Mojseja,
On pil stock fernet a ona ne.

To bolo leto, to bola sláva,
Zásnuby, punč a káva.

A rozvod, borovička, káva.

To bude leto, to bude sláva,
Rum, veternik a káva.
A hneď na facebook na známosť sa dava,
To sa nezanedbáva.

To bude leto, to bude sláva,
Návraty, rum, saláma.
A hneď na facebook na známosť sa dava,
To sa nezanedbáva.

Lyrics :GBR

It was love,

summer was nice,

They met somewhere at the fair,

At Branislav Mojsej's concert,

He drank stock fernet

and she didn't.

That was summer,

that was glory Engagement,

punch and coffee.

And he immediately introduced himself on Facebook,

The bride will be a mother.

Autumn came suddenly,

he went to work behind the harvester,

Work the fields on Surdok.

Janka from the factory looks quite nice,

He rolled up his sleeve

and undressed her as well.

And autumn is here,

the glory is over

And divorce,

pine tree, coffee.

And he immediately introduced himself on Facebook,

That he is alone and she is alone too.

Spring is already sprouting and she waited,

With the sun in the side

in a monobloc

after the procedure.

She sent him a message via messenger,

You ask if she is out,

Yeah,...she already is.

And spring came,

it was glory,

Baptisms, punches, coffee.

And he immediately introduces himself on Facebook,

I weigh three fifteen, nice to meet you.

That will be summer,

that will be glory,

Rum, pinwheel and coffee.

And he immediately introduced himself on Facebook,

This is not neglected.

That will be summer,

that will be glory,

Returns, rum, salami.

And he immediately introduced himself on Facebook,

This is not neglected.
