Dennis 600 Posted May 10, 2022 #2 Share Posted May 10, 2022 Carlijn Achtereekte, Olympic Champion 3.000m in 2018, has made a switch to cycling. She transferred internally from the Jumbo Visma speed skating team to the Jumbo Visma cycling team. Her first big competition will most likely be the national championships on the road next month. Dennis 600 Posted October 14, 2022 #3 Share Posted October 14, 2022 The Canadian National Championships are being contested this weekend in Quebec City. Some impressive results already with Laurent Dubreuil winning the 500m in 34,37 seconds, faster than any time skated in Heerenveen last season and would have been enough for silver at the Olympics. And it's only mid-October Isabelle Weidemann won the 3.000m in 4:00,20 which is also an impressive time from her at this point in the season. Ted-Jan Bloemen won the 5.000m with strong competition from Belchos, Fish and Howe in 6:16,16. The women's 500m was less impressive with Caroline Hiller winning in 38,42. Dennis 600 Posted October 16, 2022 #4 Share Posted October 16, 2022 And a casual 6:48,58 from Isabelle Weidemann on the women's 5.000m mid October, while Dubreuil started the season with a 1.07,94 on the men's 1.000m. Ivanie Blondin won the women's 1.000m and 1.500m in solid but not very impressive times (1.15,83 and 1.55,50). Ted-Jan Bloemen won the men's 10.000m in a very good 12.51,77, while Connor Howe won the men's 1.500m in 1.44,77.

heywoodu 13,499 Posted December 13, 2022 #8 Share Posted December 13, 2022 (edited) We've had one or two nights below zero, some shallow waters have frozen over and of course that means one thing only: time for skates Speed skater Bart Vreugdenhil stepped on this ice this morning and is going for a world hour record on natural ice, which is apparently only 31km....set in 1928 Edited December 13, 2022 by heywoodu De_Gambassi 1 If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! heywoodu 13,499 Posted December 13, 2022 #10 Share Posted December 13, 2022 (edited) 23 minutes ago, De_Gambassi said: Outdoor speed skating is a beauty @heywoodu What about your weird race that hasn't been run in half a century ? Any chance this year ? The second the temperature hits -0.1 anywhere in the country talk about this starts, every winter again We'd need at least the current temperatures (but getting closer to -10 would be better) and most importantly, we'd need them for a bit longer than we usually get...barely one week of cold nights and 0 degree days isn't really enough to freeze things over well enough for the thousands of people. It doesn't have to be 100% skateable by the way, there are always some passages around bridges or something where people have to get off the ice and 'walk' a short bit to get back on the ice. There's even a specific verb for this 'walking on skates', klunen. Anyway, I doubt it'll happen this winter, but you never know. Often you don't see these kind of things coming from far away, who knows how long this current cold lasts and what January and February have in store. Last time was halfway in the 90's by the way If you've got nothing to do for a bit over seven hours, here's the main part of the broadcast of last time.... (definitely not all, I believe they started at 04:00 and the touristic riders had until midnight, if I'm not mistaken) As you can see in the first minutes, they start with quite a bit of running from the start area to the ice, where they've got benches and such to put on their skates and really get underway. One of the most dramatic moments in Dutch TV history is at 7:09.20 in the video. The last seconds before midnight, the finish is being closed, and right at the bell of midnight, one guy who is meters away from the finish comes into view....but nope. Rules are rules, the finish is closed. No cross (the medal) for him. Johann Olav Koss of Norway is also shown at one of the stamp posts at 5:38 hours or so, it's not just Dutch skaters who want the 'Tour of Tours' Edited December 13, 2022 by heywoodu De_Gambassi 1 If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated!
