Jeez, it's one after another lately in the world of sports :yikes:

If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Full story and how to help can be found here!

A new combined format will be tested this year at the junior world championships. Still a combined event of a slalom and a downhill races, but with two different riders ! And the team event should be axed after 2023 also.

Why do all potentially good ideas always have to come together with some shitty thing?

Actually, I kinda like the idea. The alpine combined as we knew it is dead anyway. Here, it survives in some form and bring to its well deserved death the team event.

The 'potentially good idea' I meant was the team event being axed :p

I'm not so much against a team event by definition, but I definitely am against one where only a certain specialization is being used. If having a team event is such an important thing, I'd make it a variation on this proposed doubles event:

Four skiers per team/country, a man and woman do the slalom, a man and woman do the downhill, so both technical and speed specialists have a realistic chance of showing what they've got in a team event.

I know it won't happen, because I'm sure it needs to be some head-to-head thing since that's super urban, but yeah.

This has more sense on paper. I'm all for getting rid of the stupid & unfair team event. I think even FIS knows this event is totally biased and one course will always have the better conditions and will always win so smart teams will always manipulate the outcome if they know what's going on.
