I believe it's the only Olympic event where you get a direct advantage from another Olympic event, right? We had this in cross country before the current skiathlon format (1992-2002). A medal-free race that only set the time difference for the pursuit. Cross Country skiing had the same type of event in 1992, 94 and 98. Classic race where medals were awarded, then pursuit race with additional medals.
