Let's make it a round number and find one more nation for the most diverse medal table in the history of the Olympics! China are going into the busiest day tomorrow with a 5 gold lead over the US. The Americans have a lot of changes left catching the Chinese. Japan with a solid third place. Russia with many solid chances left finishing 4th, with GB possibly making it interesting until the end. 7th to 15th place in the final ranking is very busy too with chances for all of them on gaining or losing places. Italy, despite a bumpy start, have no won more medals than on their home games in 1960 (36 total in Rome). Canada tying Atlanta and Rio with chances left to win the most medals at a summer games (excluding the boycotted 1984 games in Los Angeles). Poland improving on recent games too with most medals since 2000 (14 total in Sydney). If the Ukraine can't find another Olympic champion the next two days, they have been on a gradual decline in golds ever since 2004 in Athens. 4th place counter* (30) (18) (16) (15) (14) (13) (12) (11) (10) (9) (8) (7) (6) (5) (4) (3) (2) and the Refugee Olympic Team (1) *5th places in events that award two bronze medals; also includes QF losers in boxing and athletes in karate kumite one shy from the SF after the pool stage India 4 4th places? How? Women's Hockey, Deepak in 86FS Wrestling, and??

I added QF losers in boxing here too because it's essentially 5th place in a combat sport one shy from a medal. Stopped watching sports, there are better things in life. hckošice 13,217 Posted August 7, 2021 #235 Share Posted August 7, 2021 and this ended Slovakia's participation at the Tokyo Games. With 41 athletes (the smallest delegation ever) we succeeded to win 4 medals, which is for our country an amazing achievement. At the start of the games I was not confident we will win any single one, maybe the M Canoe Slalom C1, which as you know did not happen. it is one of the (if not the) most dissapointing moment of this games. For the fist time ever we did not win a medal in this discipline. but, yeah, let turn this post in someting positive and good. So team won in Tokyo 4 medals at the end (1-2-1) which is fantastic. We keep alive our streak at the Summer olympics, we won medals at every SOG we participated as Slovakia. 1996 - 3 (1-1-1) 2000 - 5 (1-3-1) 2004 - 6 (2-2-2) 2008 - 6 (3-3-0) our most successful games 2012 - 4 (0-1-3) our worst games, only time without gold. 2016 - 4 (2-2-0) and now 2020(1) - 4 (1-2-1) JamDH, Monzanator, Jinzha and 4 others
thiago_simoes 1,359 Posted August 7, 2021 #236 Share Posted August 7, 2021 It's interesting to note that among the top 20 nations: 2 are from Oceania. 3 are from Asia. 5 are from the Americas. 10 are from Europe. A disappointing edition overall for African nations. Only 9 gold medals so far for the continent and 31 medals combined. I wonder when African nations were unable to obtain a total of 10 gold medals for the last time...

Monzanator 3,593 Posted August 7, 2021 #239 Share Posted August 7, 2021 That's it for at the Olympics. We won 14 medals overall - tying the Sydney 2000 haul. 9 medals is the most we've ever won in athletics at OG too (previous best was 8 in... Tokyo 1964 ). Our most successful OG athletics in medal quality was 4-0-0 in Sydney where we also swept the hammer and Korzeniowski won two golds in race walking. Fast forward 21 years and we swept the hammer again and won 50k walk too. These are our most successful SOG in XXI century (4-5-5) beating Beijing 2008 (4-5-2). Party time!!! Makedonas, Ros, dcro and 2 others 4
intoronto 4,201 Posted August 7, 2021 #240 Share Posted August 7, 2021 Looks like USA just needs one more gold to pass the USA among two boxing finals and women's volleyball. Their women's basketball team should easily win gold.
