Winter Olympic Games 2030 Bid Process

Sweden didn't have the public support that was needed.  I was honestly very surprised to see Stockholm bidding after they dropped out of the 2022 bids.  Italy won on the basis of stronger public support.  Sweden didn't have it.  I preferred their bid, but I can understand why the IOC went with Milano-Cortina

But how has Italy the public support that’s needed if only 10% of the Italian people care about Winter Sports? :mumble:

by the way, Cortina will host only the women's alpine skiing...the men's events will be held in Bormio (which is way better than Cortina in terms of speed races's tracks)...

that's almost offensive...

we're not existing in those non-sport freestyle activities, but we're one of the few nations having (a few, I must admit) medal chances (or being close to them) in almost every true Winter sport...

not bad for a country that only care of Winter sports in less than 10% of their people and territories...

not to mention that we have some of the most iconic venues for Wintersports, where the athletes will be able to compete without having to cope with farcical tracks (especially those practicing the snow sports)...

Really only 10% of Italians care of Winter Sports? Then why hell they got it two times in so short time? Why not give it to countries who actually care about Winter Sports?? Yes in that case Italy IS a small winter nation then.

Anyway with the corrupt IOC Sweden never will get WOG even we deserve it as Winter Nation.

I suspect there will be no bidding process at all. Venues in Europe in particular are unwilling to bid for OG, the public support is basically gone. Just award the Games to anyone who wants to wants to host them.

Haha maybe the only chance for Sweden to get it? Be the only one who wants it. :)

But of course our public don’t want it either.

Well damn, that makes me feel old. I remember she was my favourite athlete when she won her second junior world title...no idea that was already that long ago :yikes:

I feel old too. I’m not surprised though. She had problems.

”King Henrik” Henrik Lundqvist retires.

He is one of Sweden’s biggest ice hockey stars ever. He is most famous for the fantastic Olympic Gold Medal Game 2006 against Finland which Sweden won.

Thank you for all memories you have given us. You will be truly missed.

I’d argue for Ice Hockey there...or even Bandy

Yes Ice hockey and Bandy are very popular in Sweden too. But Football is still the National sport. :)

For Sweden it's Armand Duplantis in Pole vault.

I also want to mention hockeyplayer Rasmus Dahlin. He is the first Swede since 1989 to go as 1st overall pick in NHL entry draft.
