To be fair, it is simply not unthinkable. And it might get proven for example by hair analysis, where in this case it might be possible that Thibus is shown to not have been a user of this substance and Imboden has been, in which case the defense has quite a good point.

Apparently, there were two cases where the athletes was able to "prove" just that. Basically, you have to show evidence that the amount of the prohibitive substance from your partner is much higher than your own.

Once again, the IOC will do *literally anything* to not host long track outdoors.

There are no track in the country (outdoor or indoor). The one from Albertville was converted into an athletic one right after the Olympics.

Some info about the 2030 long track issue. One (new) option could be to use a temporary track in an already existing hall somewhere (anywhere really) and then reuse it as a training facility up into the mountains with limited costs for the french speed track program (which is currently being reinstalled by the roller sports federation).

IMO, this would be the best case scenario as a permanent long track rink sounds very much like a dead option (who would want on its territory a huge infrastructure guaranteed to run at a multi-millions loss every year ?)

Indeed… probably main sites could be Grenoble/Nice/Lyon.

Grenoble and Lyon are both run by "green" mayors who are unlikely to show any interest in this. Nice (which is as much a winter sport city as Sochi was) is likely to be the anchor city with everything else spreading in the Alps.

It doesn't look too good on paper tbh.

Wow, this is actually a rare proposal that makes quite some sense. Especially the minimum climate conditions and existing infrastructure. Winter Olympics in largely green areas with zero prior infrastructure (and so most likely also not a lot of stuff happening after the Olympics) are....well, not great.

The issue would be with ice rinks. Mountains towns rarely have the need for 10,000+ indoor arenas.

Absolutely nothing changed since they banned Russians from international competitions, the war is still ongoing, so it would look a bit foolish if they changed their minds on it now. You have crossed this bridge, backing down now when Russians are still killing Ukrainians would look like Russia has won in the world of sports against Ukraine.

I wasn't sure if I was on board with the ban, but now that it has been made official and implemented for many months, I think it should only end when the war itself is over.

Possibly, when the initial décision was made, it was expected that the war would be over soon enough and that russian sport would be reinstalled once the peace was broken.

Now that it looks like that the war could drag for years, IOC might look for a new long term solution regarding the :RUS-:BLR athletes

Okay, let's do it :d Tell me later if you like this idea :p

I think that 10 events for sprint canoeing is perfectly fine :p and that extra events for diving and shooting is definitely a no-go :nopompom:

Generally speaking, if we want even more events and athletes than we already have, something radical would need to happen (splitting the summer olympics, having multiple hosts, an extra week, etc.)

I know this is not meant be realistic, but still.

Is that the one where Spain and Argentina fills up roughly 95% of the top-60 in the world rankings? Since this year Dutch Ziggo Sport is, for reasons nobody understands, showing the Padel World Tour, and I remember taking a look at the ranking: three Brazilian men, one Chilean man, a French woman and a few Portuguese women and the rest of the 120 top-60 players (men/women) were either Spanish or Argentinian. Has that been significantly changing this year?

Serious question/remark, since I really don't follow it, and maybe I'm talking about the wrong racket sport entirely :d

No, you don't :p Yeah, Spaniards and Argentinians make up for the vast majority of the top athletes in the world, but this will change as time goes on and people from other countries will have played this sport from a young age.

The thing is that this sport seems to take off like crazy everywhere it is introduced. AFAIK, we have not seen anything like that before in modern times.

Interesting no one ever mentions Padel. If the sport continues to grow as it has for the last decade, it will have very serious arguments for its inclusion (it's already going to feature at the European and Asian Games).

IMO, if there is to be a new racket sport at the olympics one day, this will be it.

Summer tour are more important than olympic games? C'mon, it's a joke... if you don't like a 3 rounds tournament, is possible ti made 2 groups, 4 teams each one. The first can play final, the second bronze medal game. Are 4 matches, in 20 days. Not so easy, but is possible. TUE (before games)-MON-SUN and SUN

Yes, financially, they are.

De_Gambassi why not? Eigth team, with ENG-SCO-WAL can be only GBR. Direct elimination, quarterfinals, semifinals and finals. First round before open ceremony (like football and other sports). Only 3 matches in 20 days. Not a problem.

Do you really want to see a 3 rounds tournament ?

Besides, you would need the Unions to sign for it. And really, that's not going to happen. Summer tours are very important for the economy of the southern rugby nations, they are not going to willingly cancel them.

You'll end up with a 3 rounds tournament filled with with C-team players or youngsters. Even if it was possible, that's a pass from me.

Also, World Rugby is very much into seven as a way to publicize rugby around the world.

Let it go.

The 2022 version of this thread:

Does your schedule look different than 4 years ago?

Not really. Marginally perhaps.

Basically, I believe in three things when it comes to the olympic program :

- The so called gender equity policy screwed it, switching more competitive events for lesser competitive ones.

- Practicability should not be the main reason why events are olympic or not. Sports/disciplines/events should first and foremost deserve their sport due to their competitive strengths

- As far as possible, the number of each sport medals should be correlate to its relative importance. That's why I believe swimming should drop many events or why I'm ok with mixed events in sports with only a couple of events (like triathlon pe).
