French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced that there would be 326,000 spectators for the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games 2024.

222 000 free places for Opening Ceremony

Going to be either a big success or a big shambles.

DEN only says here they are opposed to Russian athletes participating in the Paris Olympics next year even under a neutral flag. There is no "boycott" word here

Danish politicians are on Twitter calling for a boycott. Their government won’t be able to ignore the demands.

About which return are you talking? They will participate as AIns, and no other scenarios can't be real proofs. If you think that countries will withdraw from the Games due to participation of AINs, you're wrong, they don't give a sh*t about it.

The British Government has said GB shouldn’t compete in such a circumstance.

Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024 Team Sizes
Posted (edited)

It’s impossible to calculate because so many teams are likely to withdraw over the return of the Russians there will be lots and lots of last minute replacements in many sports. Men’s’ football  for example has Ukriane who will withdraw and be replaced by who? Georgia? Switzerland? Portugal?

There is just no evidence that :GBR would boycott.

Whilst the government may be vocal in their opposition to Russia taking part, the decision on participation will ultimately come down to the BOA. The only thing that could happen would be a diplomatic boycott - as happened with Beijing - but even this is unlikely given the importance of UK-France relations.

The BOA wouldn’t be able to sustain the pressure if the Government and media really pushed them to boycott. It’s not 1980 anymore.

Russians athlete will partecipate in Paris 2024, albeit in reduced team.
They are probably qualified in:
- judo;
- tennis;
- fencing (individual);
- cycling bmx
- wrestling

If they are allowed in then a lot of countries will boycott including possibly big nations like the UK.

Macron re-elected French President.

No doubt there'll be a sigh of relief in Lausanne, where there were probably fears of a Le Pen victory overshadowing the Paris Olympics. The IOC will probably be pretty happy they can have a Games not overshadowed by politics and external events, unlike 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020.

Still got the big issue of Russia and Belarus and if they will be banned or not.

Absolutely, but I think it's fair to say weightlifting is, globally speaking, just not a huge sport in terms of viewing numbers. There's a strong and dedicated following, but I truly wonder which percentage of all the Olympic viewers watched even one second of weightlifting in the past few Olympics.

It seemed reasonably popular in the UK as the BBC had two dedicated commentators cover the highlights of every final including the majority that had no British participants. For some sports like Artistic Swimming the highlights used OBS commentators.
