  4. Today
  5. My own 5 personal favorite gold moments: - Swedish expected gold and suprising silver (Ståhl and Pettersson) in men's discus Throw 2021 - Swedish women's cross country relay gold 2014. Kalla 25s behind gold and silver when she started the 4th leg. - Jonna Sundling, dominating golf in sprint cross country 2022. Because our Grand fathers are cousins I feel a bit extra for her. - Stefan Holm, gold in Men's high jump 2004. I was 9 year old and it is one of my first olympic memories and it was special because Sweden won 3 golds in athletics within 24 hours. - Team Hasselborg, gold in womens curling 2018 a was watching from one of the team members home together with her family. If I should consider non-golds I would like to include the Swedish silver in mens handball 2012 because I was there attending the semi final win against Hungary. for swedes in general maybe: - Ice hockey gold men 1994 - womens relay cross country 2014 - Gärderud gold and world record 3000m steeple 1976 - The 3 gold medals in athletics 2004 within 24h: Holm (M HJ), Olsson (M TJ), Klüft (W Hpt) - any of Ingemar Stenmarks gold medals in alpine skiing

  9. Oh I'm definitely happy that it happened and the precautions were absolutely necessary to enable it to do so. But it just felt 10% less 'special' than some of the others, if that makes sense?
  10. As a remote fan, I was grateful it happened at all - it seemed all too likely at one stage it wouldn't, and I'm amazed how quickly the world has all but forgotten the mayhem of that 18 months more generally - I had major health incident just prior to the first lockdown so it was quite surreal to watch it happen in real time from my own convalescent bed.
  11. Not exactly, they combined the ENP quotas and last chance quotas for the ILCA 6 and 7 events
  12. I do found it, from World Sailing website
  13. Assuming it's the same structure as last year's worlds, then the top 2 sailors at the end of the opening series of 20 races will go directly through to the final. Sailors ranked 3-10 progress to the semi-finals with the top ranked sailor in each semi-final starting with 2 wins, the 2nd ranked sailor starting with 1 win. The other 2 sailors start from 0. The first sailor to get to 3 wins advances to the final so it is unlikely that they would need all 8 races. In the final, the same structure applies - the sailor who topped the opening series starts the final with 2 wins, the sailor who finished 2nd has 1 win and the qualifiers from the semi-final start with 0. The first to 3 takes gold.

  16. Worth noting that the set up of the Kite is different from some of the other races. There's 20 preliminary races I think, then an 8 series for the SF and a final 6 race series for the final, I think. Not exactly sure of the numbers, but it is more than in the other events I know that.

  18. The only disappointing thing about the Kenny jump was that there wasn't a proper crowd there to see it and roar him on. Obviously due to circumstances beyond anyone's control but that's why at times Tokyo just didn't feel entirely like a 'true' Games for me. Nobody's fault obviously. And it's why I'm even more hyped for this summer to see full crowds again (fingers crossed!!) That and the camerawork for that final. That wasn't great either.

  21. The Kenny gold was great fun, and also a powerful lesson that sometimes wit can beat power and speed. If you watch closely you notice that Glaetzer on second wheel is clearly as nervous as hell, no doubt worrying about Harrie. He's super twitchy. But its all very good us noticing it - what's important is that Kenny noticed it, in race, and there comes a point, about a lap before the derny leaves where Kenny starts throwing looks back at Glaetzer quite rhythmically - and EVERY time he does, Glaetzer reflexively looks back at Harrie et al. now he has the fish on the line, Kenny keeps baiting poor Matthew, and literally when the derny pulls off, throws a final long look back at the precise second he puts down a smidge of power (Kenny is known for being able to speed up while looking back)- and Glaetzer can't help himself, and looks back just at the point Kenny jumps - it's a millisecond, but its enough for Kenny to get a maybe 10 metres - at that point for a brief second the whole group is looking at Glaetzer as second wheel, and he's kind of looking at them, and they all just too slowly realise "F*** me, Kenny's off!!" - meanwhile Kenny is absolutely all over the track banks trying to get speed before they realise. They never get near him again. It as a thing of beauty.
  22. Go Iraq! Let qualify to Paris! Iraq football team is in the same position like South Sudan basketball team for which I cheer the most, of course not counting Polish teams

  28. For the Brits I’d have to agree with my other commentators on: - redgrave’s 5th “‘the Italians are coming!” - men’s 4x 100m - I’m not sure I’ve ever been more pumped watching the Olympics 🤣 - also like the Redmond inclusion for what the spirit of the games is all about id like to throw in a nomination for Jason Kenny in the Kierin Tokyo 2021 - the end of his career, hadn’t really shown any form in the individual sprint and looked like a rather meek goodbye - then in the final against an odds on fav in Harry L, he drifts off the front and isn’t immediately closed down and goes full gas 3 laps out to win by half the straight. Beautiful chaos. I’d also mention Adlington’ 400m free Beijing 2008 when she came from nowhere to win. The US comms didn’t even mention her name until the last 10 metres! GB took 2 medals home from that race with Jo Jackson getting bronze which was a shock.
