Do people in South America really care about the South American Games? I mean, at the time of the European Games really nobody did apart from a few die hard fans, and it never felt like a major competition..

No, and even for a nation that is hosting I don't think is THAT important (unless you're Bolivia and can really have an improvement over the last editions). But like @carivan said, the Pan Ams matter a lot, much more than the European Games, of course.

For me is like the "Mediterranean Games" to make a paralelism, only the Panamerican Games can be the same of the European Games, probably with the time will be more important.

Well, there are pros and cons. As a sports fan, I would love if Brazil went ahead with our A team in most sports, but that's not realistic for this competition. So I think it's a good decision to send our best in sports where were are not that great (like Fencing, Field Hockey, Rugby, etc), and send young athletes (who can gain experience in a multi-sport competition) for the sports we have a better level.

Is logical that judokas like Menezes dont come here (Pareto wont too) but i expected a B team from Brazil, not a young team.....is clear that the brazilian NOC doesnt have any interest in the medal count.

Probably we will see the brazilian A team in the sports with direct qualification to the Panamerican Games: atletismo, hockey sobre césped, tiro deportivo, ciclismo, ráquetbol, balonmano, triatlón, pelota vasca, rugby, pentatlón moderno, tenis, lucha, bowling, patinaje y kárate.

Any self-respecting sports fan should have a good enough knowledge of international words to know what each and every one of those Spanish sports names means

As predicted, Brazil is sending a mostly "A" team in Athletics, maybe because we're not that good in this sport. However, this time the list has "only" 38 athletes (in 2014, our team was close to 70):

Yes! Dominici! I'm soooo excited to watch her! I hope she wins everything, given Brazil will (and should) send our B (or C) team, and none of the B girls come even remotely close to what Dominici can achieve. Brazil will probably still win the team event (in Argentina no one except Dominici is really good... Tarabini is the second best, but she's 10 yeas past her prime), but Dominici can still win everything else.
