My main fear with these events is that it will end up taking away the events that have made speed skating speed skating for so long. Short track skating is a different sport than long track and so is mass start or these events where people are riding together.

100% against it :p

If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Full story and how to help can be found here!

I think the team pursuit / team sprint are still in the spirit of long track (I can't really think of a better team format for speed skating), but I agree that the mass start feels very out of place.

Been discussing this with somebody before and it looks like mass starts become the norm now for the general TV audience with limited understanding. That's why we won't see the 50km in Cross-Country with intervals anymore. :wall:

"Who crosses the finish line first, wins" is an easy-to-understand concept. Hopefully there won't be Ski Jumping or Luge mass starts. :d

Apparently in the men's mass start, everyone sprinted one lap too late :roflmao:

Blokhuijsen won the sprint, but Silovs got the win because he crossed the finish first (one lap before the sprint).

Luckily ISU didn't at the mass start to the Olympics yet, before clearing up all kinds of things like this. Oh wait.

Aah okay, still, the women's results were on there pretty quickly after the competition, even though there were more participants.
