at least the final day was good winning all 3 matches in medal round but Poursheib is actually in the same weight as Ganjzadeh (-84 and +84 will be merged for Tokyo) and Mehdizadeh at 60kg doesn't have a good chance to shine one weight up.

I know Asian Games was very important and I agree with that but I just hope not sending most of our top athletes into the Asian Championship doesn't hurt us at the end of the qualifiers. for example Ganjzadeh missed lots of "easy" points by not competing in Asian Champs and in +84 he doesn't cut weight . not sending him to Jordan one month before Jakarta was a mistake IMO. the reserve guy Abazari won the gold but what's the point!? he didn't even participate here in Berlin.

considering the current economical crisis Iran we won't see much of Iranians in future Karate1 events, :( only those who can pay for their own trips.

after a few months out for injury, Busà is back with a vengeance...today he just destroyed all of his opponents on his route to the final match, including local favourite Ken Nishimura...

very good competition also for his sister Lorena, who reached the bronze medal match in her weight class...

on the other hand, not a very good day for the other Italian top guys who were in action earlier today (especially Maresca and Cardin, both losing to a pair of Kazakh fighters...slightly better performance by Angelo Crescenzo, but still not good enough to earn a spot in Sunday's finals)...

not a very good day for the Italian men, all of them going out too early (especially Busato in men's Kata, who looks in costant decline and at risk of compromising his chances to qualify for Tokyo 2020)...

meanwhile, decent results from Ferracuti and Semeraro, even if they could/should have done better (they lost to opponents they're supposed to beat each and every time they face each other)...

This is really sad Iran completely missed this round of Karate 1. :( and unfortunately we will hear news like this A LOT in future. financial situation looks terrible for most of sports federation in Iran. :( outside of multisport evens (which will get direct financial support from the government) why will rarely participate in international competitions.

last event of the season in the K1 Premier League and, as expected, the home Nation dominated the medal table with 5 out of 12 "serious" Gold Medals (just for info, they swept also the 2 Team Kata events, but those competitions are not so meaningful in this kind of tournaments, since we always very few participants and often with B- or C-teams)...

France and Turkey also had a very strong week in Tokyo, collecting 3 Gold medals each (curiously, FRA won them all in the women's Kumite classes and TUR won them all in the men's Kumite classes)...

the last Gold medal went to Italy, with the immense Luigi Busà, who came back this week after a few months out for injury and stated that he's still the man to beat in his class just a few weeks away from the World Championships (Madrid, November 6th through Nov. 11th)...

7 more Countries then had the honor to come home from the Japanese temple of martial arts with at least a medal, but no gold ones...
