sAnother gold for Italy and another surprising medal for Norway, those 2 must be among the 3 most overperforming countries here, together with Czech Republic probably. The only logical explanation is that Italy traded football world cup for all those insane results here, no other explanation for why they are completely overperforming here. Norway probably has won half a dozen surprising medals by now, while Germany didn't win any so far, so not surprising that they lead the medal table. Surprises are what makes the olympics special, but so far there hasn't been any event where Germany surprisingly won a medal, so it's impossible to get very excited about the olympics as a german fan ...

Italy is not overperforming at all in alpine skiing and also in the other disciplines, Italy is in the 5th place if you consider the top 10 placements, the problem of Italy is the lack of a serial winner like Fourcade, Dahlmeier, Klaebo, Kuzmina, Frenzel, Wust and many others who can start to win 3,4,5 medals; but we have a lot of medal contenders, many very good athletes in many disciplines considering that we don't exist in snowboard and ski freestyle (probably Klotz is the only decent athlete).

Yes, Moioli is very  talented but she starts only in 1 race, she can't win more than 1 medal, and we are speaking about boardercross when you can fall also without your fault (look at Visintin in men, he was the biggest threaten for Vaultier and  didn' t see him without a medal in such a long and difficult course).I was speaking about snowboard half-pipe, slopestyle and big air, fore sure in boardercross and alpine men we have a strong team.

And btw she's the oldest alpine skier to win an Olympic medal

Considering she's 33, I'm surprised by that :yikes:

If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Full story and how to help can be found here!

I don't think we're overperforming at all...

our gold medals came from 3 pre-race favourites (Moioli was actually more than favourite, she could only lose gold given her superiority...and not only from this season; Fontana was the co-favourite with Fan, who failed...so, also her gold is more than logical; and the same goes for Goggia...if she doesn't do any mistake -and today she didn't- she's by far the best among nowadays downhill specialists, with Vonn being the only one who can beat her, but only on certain conditions that today weren't there)...

and among the "minor" medals, only Tumulero's and Windisch's bronze medals are really "surprising" (even the short track relay was expected to be in the final..a 4-team final which obviously always gives chances to all the starters, especially in a sport where it's so easy to fall down and/or getting DQed)...

but, as a compensation, we really miss at least another 4/5 medals according to our preview (and 2 of them, Visintin in men's SBX and Goggia's Super-G, were not just "medals" in our expectations)...

so, we're not overperforming at all...and actually we're still under the par, so to say...

I don’t know, other than Paris maybe sneaking a medal in DH? Brignone is still a huge favorite for combined medal tomorrow, but she looked in pain after that fall today, same as Gisin, so not sure what to expect.

Gross and Moellg realistically have no chance for a medal considering their recent form, but it’s just one race so one of them could sneak on the podium if other favorites make mistakes.

don't forget Goggia in the women's super-G...without her big mistake, she would have won by a huge margin (as we expected)...

tomorrow's combined gives no chance to the Italian girls, unless Goggia gives 3 seconds to all the good slalom skiers and then the slalom track is set almost straight...:facepalm:
