Switzerland has again said it wants to have 2026 :cheer:

Now, don't be assholes and just don't have a referendum, that has turned out to be mistakes all the time so far, so, let's go Switzerland!

If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Full story and how to help can be found here!

A top International Olympic Committee (IOC) official has claimed to be unbothered about the prospect of a third successive Winter Olympic Games in Asia if Sapporo can produce a strong bid for 2026.

Good, I'd like to see Kasai fight for the medals in front of his home crowd in 2026 :)

Although Tyrol voted against the games in Innsbruck Austria might still apply to host the games but with Graz as a host city instead. That said the only events taking place in Graz would be Ice Hockey, figure skating, Curling,...

The majority of the games would take place over 100 km in the west of the city with Alpine Skiing events taking place in Schladming, Nordic skiing in Ramsau/Bischofshofen and Freestyle skiing as well as snow boarding events taking place on the Kreischberg. So far that sounds quite good since all these cities have hosted world championships in the respective sport in the last 20 years, but I'm not quite as happy about the remaining locations. Biathlon would take place in Hochfilzen, and both bobsleigh and speed skating events would take place in Germany close to the Austrian border (Königssee, Inzell). Those venues wouldn't be extremely far away from the first three I've mentioned, but they are another 100km further away from Graz which simply makes Graz as the host city a completely stupid choice. I'm Austrian and of course I'd be happy if the games actually go to Graz but it would feel kinda strange to get the Olympic games back to Austria knowing the city which hosts the games wasn't even close to being the best option in the own country.

Anyway, looking at Sion's application, the distances there are even crazier. Sion is in the west of the country and as far as I know they want to make the bobsleigh events in St Moritz on the opposite side of the country. I mean why even have a host city if the events take place somewhere far away from there.

To be honnest if any Swiss city hosts, no matter how impractical they really should use St Moritz for the sliding sports. It’s the most iconic bobsleigh venue in the world and second place ain’t close.

Maybe it's because I'm from Canada, but a five hour drive isn't so bad. It is also a good way to save money on infrastructure.

Speaking of long drives, I wouldn’t mind seeing some ice rinks in Edmonton heing used as a secondary ice hockey venue or as the curling venue in the Calgary 2026 bid.

Calgary and the nearby mountains have the capacity to host most things. Curling, figure skating, ice hockey and short track speed skating could be placed in Edmonton (or Red Deer or Lethbridge)
