Shiffrin 33 Posted February 21, 2018 #401 Share Posted February 21, 2018 Surprised to see Fiva out so soon too, but other than Kappacher that was a tough quarterfinal.

This perfectly sums up the olympics for Germany. Worst possible outcome in almost every event, surprised that some german athletes even managed to get to Pyeongchang, wouldn't have been surprised to hear that some forgot where the olympics take place and accidentally flew to Thailand or something like that ... Who wants to tell him Germany is well within striking distance of setting the record for most gold medals in a single Winter Olympics?
OlympicsFan 782 Posted February 21, 2018 #403 Share Posted February 21, 2018 (edited) Very hard to find someone to root for, hopefully no canadian or french victory here (although very unlikely). I think the slovakian guy winning gold would be the best thing, would be funny to see slovakia ahead of russia and china in the medal table at the end, but for that they need a gold and then they have to hope that russia and china won't win a gold medal in the next couple of days. Given the italian luck here, i wouldn't be surprised to see Kostner winning gold here as well, would be almost as funny as the whole story about Alex Schwazer ... Shiffrin 33 Posted February 21, 2018 #405 Share Posted February 21, 2018 Eckert was never a big favorite for a medal anyway, despite his Nakiska success. Maybe disappointing he didn’t qualify for 1/4 finals but he had Chapuis in his group and Duncan had a surprisingly amazing run. Eckert’s run was bound to end in QFs with Chapuis, Ridzik and Place anyway.
Shiffrin 33 Posted February 21, 2018 #406 Share Posted February 21, 2018 Flisar will most likely end up in a small final for 3rd consecutive Olympics.

Shiffrin 33 Posted February 21, 2018 #408 Share Posted February 21, 2018 Chapuis is out before the semifinals Only French guy in the semifinals is Bovolenta aka their worst chance at the medal, after they sweeped in Sochi.
Shiffrin 33 Posted February 21, 2018 #409 Share Posted February 21, 2018 With the exception of Ridzik, 2nd semifinal does feel awfully weak. Especially since I expected a VON, Chapuis, Ridzik, Wahrstoetter SF.

So his run was bound to end, because of Ridzik, Chapuis and Place, but then 2 of them don't even make the next round? Interesting ... Also: "Duncan had a surprisingly amazing run", so Duncan who had to be considered a bigger outsider than Eckert, makes the semifinal, but Eckert's run was bound to end in the quartefinal? Interesting ... again. Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.
