and finally Lugano's dream is over...

the Zurich Lions win game #7 on the road with a score of 2-0 (first goal after just 3 minutes on a bad defensive mistake, second one an empty netter wuth only 19 seconds on the clock) and take the title home...

Lugano didn't play their best hockey through the first 2 periods (they were too tired and probably they also did feel too much pressure for playing this decider at home), but tried everything they could in the 3rd period and only a miracle save by Zurich's goalie Lukas Flueler on a Hoffman shot with less than a minute to play allowed the Lions to avoid the OT...

well deserved success for Zurich...but what a pity for those so brave Lugano players...

so, all the European leagues are now over...time to focus on the World Champs and "time to say goodbye" (cit. Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman) for me...

see you next Hockey season...:bye:

Hungarian government apparently approved a funding help of 600 Millions Ft. for the Sporting, Strategic and development activities of the Hungarian Hockey  Part of the funds should be also for two HUN clubs (DVTK Jegesmedvek Miskolc and MAC Budapest) aspiring to start in the Slovak Ice Hockey National Championship from next season

Is it true ? @lapaj http://www.jegkorongblog.hu/2018/06/05/600240-millio-forint-a-magyar-jegkorongnak/#post-245623

I don't find any other sources about the money. But yes, DVTK and MAC are looking for the possibility to start in the Slovak League.

What a big fan you are!!!  :yes How did you find that news?

And it´s Official.

2 Hungarian clubs MAC Budapest and DVTK Jegesmedvek Miskolc will play the next 2018/19 season in the National Slovak Championship - Extraliga. Today it was officially announced.

Both clubs payed 900 000 Euro to play in our league (In fact every opponent will receive some 90 000 EUR), The deal is official for 1 (next) season, but with option to eventually prolong it for at least 3 next seasons.

So next year our top division will have 13 participants, 12 core teams (10 SVK - No one was relegated this year, and 2 HUN) + 1 "Special" team (traditionally the National Under 20 Team playing the first part of the Regular season until the Junior World Championships starts in December).

Every team will play 55 matches in regular season (4 times against each other 2x home, 2x away) + 2 matches vs U20 National team (1x home 1x away in Piešťany basecamp of the team).

There will be a Best of 5 matches qualifying round for the play-offs (7th vs 10th and 8th vs 9th) for the last 2 places to the Play-Offs.

Hungarian Team can win the Championship but can not became Slovak Champion so there will be two trophies awarded (One for the SVK National champion - for the best ranked SVK club, and one for the Championship winner).

The worst ranked Slovak club will play a Best of 7 games Play-Out against the winner of 2nd Division.

and another European league becomes "open"...

I have some kind of mixed feeling for that...

from one side, it's good because normally it improves the league itself and gives a big opportunity to the best teams from smaller Countries, which can't have a really competitive league...

but from the other side, it takes the National Identity of a league away, at least in part...and I don't like this at all...

Mixed feeling here too. In the discussions forums there a plenty of debates about this move. But well, It´s official for one season so let see what will happen, and at the end of the season we can evaluate the pluses and minuses. For now hat is certain both teams definitely already surpassed the local league, so I can not blame them that they search something else, plus they have the sources and potential to bring our league and our hockey something new and refreshing so another so needed boost, it may help our league very well, which was unfortunately in stagnating and declining mood lately after the departure of Slovan Bratislava to the KHL

Both combined or each ? In any case (and no offense to the slovak league) that seems quite expensive...
