Tour de Suisse 2017

47 posts in this topic

The 81st edition of the Tour de Suisse starts today, together with the Criterium du Dauphiné the most important preparation stage race for the Tour de France. It does include quite a lot of non-Tour riders as well though, like Tom Dumoulin who might still have some Giro-winning legs left (or not).

Profiles and stuff can be found here, the start list is available here.

Miguel Angel 'Superman' Lopez is defending his title, but there are the riders who always excel in Switzerland. Think of three-time winner Rui Costa or 2015 winner Simon Spilak (who will be hoping for rain, because Spilak in rain in Switzerland = #winning). Don't count out Ion Izagirre, and what will Giro-riders Dumoulin and Domenico Pozzovivo have left in the tank?

At the team presentation yesterday, there was a sort of sprint competition on roller bikes, where every team selected one rider for the match-up. Niccolo Bonifazio had a little accident against Oscar Gatto :d

He has 4 theoretical chances, but I'm not convinced he'll win more than one stage :p

For a 6km time trial, one could definitely call this domination by Dennis, 56km/h

Because why not :p

Honestly, it's the only reason I could think of :d

Well, apart from it being like a big 'cooling down' towards his next peak.

Four laps around Cham today, with one not so easy climb in every lap.

The breakaway was caught, now a group of 3 riders moves away from the peloton with 5km to go but their 7 second lead should be caught.

Peter Sagan is at the front of the peloton.

Philippe Gilbert won and Rui Costa was 3rd, everyone else was in peloton so no time lost overall.
