This weekend we have :FRA Pau 4* in eventing. :d Pretty much the last bigger European event of the season. Actually, apart from Adelaide 3-day event next month there is pretty much no eventing worldwide for like 5-6 months... :(

Pau is nevertheless something like Roland Garros of eventing, one of only 6 four star competitions of the season. Exceptionally, this season had 7 four stars because of the Olympics.

Michael Jung and fischerRocana took the lead after an exciting XC in Pau, they were 1 second over the time. Surprisingly, Jung was 22 seconds over the time with his other horse Takinou (they dropped from 1st after dressage to 5th).

Sitting in 9th place is :GBR Alexander Bragg with an interesting horse named Zagreb. :d Nevertheless, that horse isn't from Croatia. :p

It's a shock as Jung failed to keep his lead and win today. :yikes: Pau remains the only 4* on Northern hemisphere which he never won.

Maxime Livio is the winner.

Global Dressage Forum was held last week, and one of the topics was the competition system for the 2020 Olympics. It's not finalized yet, but it looks likely that the formats of all Olympic events will be changed. Everything will be confirmed at the General Assembly next month!

So it looks like the dressage teams will now have 3 riders, instead of 4, meaning that all scores will count. But, in team final, teams will be able to use their reserve rider as a "joker" if they want to. Grand Prix stage will be divided into 6 heats of 10 riders, with top x athletes + y lucky losers advancing.

In eventing, it looks like individual and team competitions will be completely separated. 40/45 athletes should be in the team competition. Teams will also have 3 riders instead of 4 and all scores will count. Team members should go one after the other in cross-country and jumping stages. 20/25 athletes will be in the individual competitions, with max 3 per nation. But, athletes can't compete in both team and individual events so this means that nations will be able to have 6 eventing riders in total! They are also planning to introduce penalties for knocking down the flags on cross-country.

Jumping should also see 3 riders per team instead of 4, with all scores counting. This means that as much as 20 teams should compete. Individual and team competitions will be separated and both will take just two days. Also, individual competition should be held before the team event.

I'll keep an open mind for now. :p After all, everything is yet to be confirmed next month.

Praise the Lord (of Equestrian) for that. Now just separate the dressage team and individual events as well and it's all going to be a hell of a lot easier to follow who's doing well (and you won't have situations where a bad result influences two medal events) :)

Now that's just plain stupid. Imagine telling athletes they can either run the 100m or the 4x100m, but not both

I guess it's possible that athletes can compete in both, but only if it is with a different horse. Btw, team and individual competitions were already separated previously (at the 1996 and 2000 Olympics)

Though, there seems to be a possible compromise where team and individual eventing would be together, but in the jumping phase there would be a team final where team members go one after the other and the final team score becomes instantly available.

Dressage World Cup season kicked off today with a Grand Prix in Odense, Denmark. :ESP Severo Jurado placed 1st in front of 3 Swedes (Rose Mathisen, Tinne Vilhelmson-Silfven and Mads Hendeliowitz - all three within 0.08%).

Even though this is the only WC stage in Denmark, there are no top Danish riders competing. :( Freestyle is tomorrow.

Wow, looks like they are testing new scoring system with predetermined difficulties in Odense.  Instead of subjective scores from 0 to 10 for difficulty, difficuly score is now determined automatically from floorplan and execution scores!

Some very interesting scores so far. Current leader :NED Marjan van der Jagt received difficulty score of 9.7 from one judge. :woot: Very difficult freestyle, but there's no way that she would have got 9 with subjective marks.

Hi, can somebody (I think @dcro will do it the best way) explain me the Jumping and Dressage World Cup format? I see there are some stages now, but it is only Western European League. What about other regions? And what is the most important series in Eventing? Is there any Nations Cup or World Cup equivalent?
