pjwasz 16 Posted February 10, 2018 #111 Share Posted February 10, 2018 Team USA 2018 - Winter Olympics Schedule All times in PST Day 1 (February 10th) Biathlon Women's 7.5km Sprint - 3:15am Team USA Susan Dunklee Clare Egan Emily Dreissigacker Madeleine Phaneuf Joanne Reid Thoughts/Background Information We have little to no chance to medal in this event. Dunklee might have a good shoot and get a little lucky. But I love Biathlon, so I'm still gonna watch. Cross Country Skiing Women's 2 x 7.5km Skiathlon - 11:15pm PST Team USA Jessie Diggins Sadie Bjornsen Kikkan Randall Rosie Brennan Thoughts/Background Information Jessie Diggins has been phenomenal this year. Wells mentioned it, it'd be a shock if she didn't win a medal. That would be huge, as the USA haven't won a Cross Country Skiing medal since Bill Koch in 1972 in Innsbruck. Which is our only medal in the sport. However, I don't think this will be her event, as she specializes in the freestyle skis, and this race mixes free and classic. But she did outski Heidi Weng in Seefeld a few weeks ago. So who knows at this point. Curling Mixed Doubles United States of America vs China - 4:05pm PST Team USA Matt Hamilton Rebecca Hamilton Team China Ba Dexin Wang Rui Thoughts/Background Information This is effectively an elimination game for both teams. This is crunch time for the Cheeseheads. They need a win and some help in the draw to get back in, althought that help is very reasonable! United States of America vs Norway - 3:05am PST Team USA Matt Hamilton Rebecca Hamilton Team Norway Kristin Skaslien Magnus Nedregotten Thoughts/Background Information Yet Unknown Luge Men's Runs 1 & 2 - 2:10am Team USA Chris Mazdzer Taylor Morris Tucker West Thoughts/Background Information Luge is a fickle, fickle beast. Our sliders are good, but at the end of the day, 4 runs total will determine who will win. Germans are the favorites, but the Americans might get a surprise podium. Short Track Speed Skating Men's 1500m - Heats: 2:00am, Semis: 3:21am, Final A: 4:28am Team USA J.R. Celski John-Henry Krueger Aaron Tran In order to qualify: Top 3 in Heats, Top 2 in Semis Women's 500m - Heats: 2:44am Team USA Maame Biney Lana Gehring In order to qualify: Top 2 in Heats Thoughts/Background Information Celski and Krueger might give some people a run for their money. Celski has been off and on lately, and Krueger is able to get some good world cup results, so maybe a podium will be in his future. Our women are looking to get past the heats in the 500m, and I expect them to do so. Ski Jumping Men's Normal Hill - 4:35am Team USA Kevin Bickner Michael Glasder Casey Larson Will Rhoads Thoughts/Background Information We almost certainly won't medal, but hopefully these guys get some good experience! Snowboard Men's Slopestyle Qualification - 5:00pm Team USA Red Gerard Chris Corning Ryan Stassel Kyle Mack In order to qualify: Top 6 from each qualifer Thoughts/Background Information This will have 2 qualifiers of 20 athletes each. Top 6 advance to the final. Great chance to medal in Red Gerard, but this is going to be a tough one. Also a super fun one to watch. Speed Skating - 3:00am PST Women's 3000m Team USA Carlijn Schoutens Mia Mangenello Thoughts/Background Information Carlijn Schoutens, a New Jersey-born, Dutch raised skater, might get a medal as a young 23 year old, but I'm not sure if she will. Rdbc 47 Posted February 10, 2018 #114 Share Posted February 10, 2018 (edited) Team USA 2018 - Winter Olympics Day 0 & 1 Recap Curling Mixed Doubles United States of America vs China Result - Loss Thoughts: Like our past 4 losses we do fine in the early rounds but start making mistakes at around round 5, with this loss our chance at top 4 is over, now we just need to keep getting practice for the Men and Women tournament. I'll be rooting for Olympic Athletes from Russia for the remainder of the tournament (assuming they make top 4) as I enjoy Anastasia yelling "Sveeeeeep!" United States of America vs Norway Result - Win Thoughts: Now that's how you win a match! Very proud of the curing team as they were able to finally break the loosing streak and beat Norway who was previously 4-1. Still no way we can make it into the top 4 but still great to have a win! Snowboard Mens Slopestyle Qualification Result Thoughts: Redmond Gerard was the only USA snowboarder to qualify for the finals. He got a great Run 1 of 82.55 which secured the 3rd spot in Heat 2 of the Qualification. At only 17 years old Redmond might be able to medal in the Finals! Cross Country Skiing Women's 15km Skiatholon Result Thoughts: Jessica was able to got a solid 5th place in the Women's 15km Skiatholon, this is the highest individual woman's placement ever for USA cross country skiing (the last record being 6th place) Short Track Speed Skating Mens 1500m - Heats, Semi, Final Results: All 3 of our men competing in this event were able to get past the Heat stage. But sadly none were able to get past the semi-finals. Our highest placing athlete was Aaron Tran placing 12th. Women's 500m - Heats Results: Maame Biney was able to qualify for the semi finals as she came 2nd in her heat. Sadly Lana Gehring was unable to qualify as she came 3rd in her heat. Biathlon Women's 7.5km Sprint Results: Not the best results for our women here but we were not expecting much anyways. Emily Dreissigacker got 51st, Clare Egan got 61st, Susan Dunklee got 66th, and Joanne Reid placed 86th. Ski Jumping Mens Normal Hill Individual Results: Kevin Brickner was the only USA man to make it past round 1 in the finals, he ended up placing in 18th place. William, Casey and Michael all placed below 30th place. Luge Mens Singles - Run 1 & 2 Results: In Run 1 Chris Mazdzer was able to pick up 5th place, Taylor Morris got 15th and Tucker West got 26th. In Run 2 Chris Mazdzer got a great 2nd place, Tucker West got 15th and Taylor Morris got 32nd. If Chris can keep up the good runs he might be able to medal! After the day, we have yet to grab a medal but hopefully that will change soon! Edited February 10, 2018 by Rdbc

Finland currently sits at the bottom of the table 0-6 so here is to hoping we play well! Figure Skating Team Event Standings: Ice Dance: Short Dance - 5:00pm Team USA Maia Shibutani Alex Shibutani Thoughts: Siblings Maia and Alex will be making their Olympic debut in the Ice Dance event, Team USA currently sits in 2nd place in Team Overall points with 14. We need good scores in the rest of the events to stay at the top Women's Single: Short Program - Around 5:00pm Team USA Bradie Tennell Thoughts: I'm hoping Bradie Tennell can do a great job and score some points for the team! Pair's Free Skating - Around 5:00pm Team USA Alexa Scimeca Knierim Chris Knierim Thoughts: Alexa and Chris were able to score 7 points for us in the Pairs short program so I'm hoping they can do that or better in this event. Snowboard Mens Slopstyle Finals - 5:00pm Standings: Thoughts: Redmond Gerard will be out only man competing in the finals. Redmond is 1st in the World Cup in Mens slopestyle so I'm hoping for a Gold or Silver from him! Women's Slopstyle Qualification - 8:30pm Team USA Jamie Anderson Julia Marino Hailey Langland Jessika Jenson Thoughts: Jamie and Jessika are have good chances to qualify for the finals, hopefully they have some good runs in qualification Cross Country Skiing Men's 30km Skiathlon - 10:15pm Team USA Erik Bjornsen Scott Paterson Patrick Codwell Noah Hoffman Thoughts: I don't think any of these men have any chance of a medal at this event. Ice Hockey Women's Team United States of America vs Finland - 11:40pm Thoughts: Team USA should win this match as they are expected to make it into the finals of this tournament Speed Skating Mens 5000m - 11:00pm Team USA Emery Lehman Thoughts: I don't see Emery getting a medal but I will be cheering him on anyways Luge Men's Singles: Heats 3 & 4 Standings: Still more people below 37th place but none are American Thoughts: If Chris can keep up his runs he should be able to get a medal Freestyle Skiing Women's Moguls Finals - 4:00am Thoughts: Hopefully Jaelin Kauf will be able to grab a medal at the end of this event! Biathlon Men's 10km Sprint - 3:15am Thoughts: I don't see us getting a medal in this event
pjwasz 16 Posted February 11, 2018 #116 Share Posted February 11, 2018 (edited) Team USA 2018 - Winter Olympics Schedule All times in PST Day 1 (February 10th) Alpine Skiing Men's Downhill - 6:00pm Team USA Bryce Bennett Jared Goldberg Wiley Maple Thomas Biesemeyer Thoughts/Background Information Jk, lol, too much wind. Biathlon Men's 10km Sprint - 3:15am Team USA Tim Burke Lowell Bailey Leif Nordgren Russell Currier Sean Doherty Thoughts/Background Information Tim Burke and Lowell Bailey have medaled in World Cup events, including a World Championship gold for Bailey in the Individual. This and the individual may get us our first medal in Biathlon, so it should be a fun race. Cross Country Skiing Men's 2 x 15km Skiathlon - 10:15pm Team USA Patrick Caldwell Erik Bjornsen Noah Hoffman Scott Patterson Thoughts/Background Information These guys have a combined 1 podium in their World Cup career, Noah Hoffman back in 2013. I'm not holding my breath for this one. Curling Mixed Doubles United States of America vs Finland - 4:05pm Team USA Matt Hamilton Rebecca Hamilton Team Finland Oona Kauste Tomi Rantamaeki Thoughts/Background Information Tried so hard, got so far...but in the 8th end, it didn't even matter....Unfortunately, this game is irrelevant towards medal contention, but hopefully it will get the HamFam on track for their 4-person events. Figure Skating Team Event(Short Dance, Ladies' Short, Pair's Free) - 5:00pm Team USA Maia Shibutani Alex Shibutani Bradie Tennell Alexa Scimeca Knierim Chris Knierim Thoughts/Background Information We are in a fantastic position in the team event right now. We will have the Shib Sibs and Bradie Tennell finish off the short program, which should be 2 great results. Then we have the Free programs with the Knierims, who were phenomenal in the short. Excited for this one. Freestyle Skiing Women's Moguls Qual 2, Finals - 2:30am Team USA Morgan Schild Jaelin Kauf Keaton McCargo Tess Johnson Thoughts/Background Information Tess is the only one yet to qualify, she will need a top 10 finish to qualify for Final 1. Again, the finals go 20->12->6. Get freakin hype for this one. Ice Hockey - Womens' United States of America vs Finland - 11:40pm [I don't want to type all of their names] Thoughts/Background Information Finland did pull the upset over Canada at the last Worlds, but I don't think that lightning will strike twice and the US will pull out a pretty comfortable win. Luge Men's Runs 3 & 4 - 3:00am Team USA Chris Mazdzer Taylor Morris Tucker West Thoughts/Background Information Mazdzer is in a fantastic position to win. 4th overall right now and had a 2nd run that was 2nd only to the God of Luge(understatement), Felix Loch. Snowboard Men's Slopestyle Finals - 5:00pm Team USA Red Gerard Thoughts/Background Information Okay, here it is. 3 runs, best run wins gold. Red had a great run in qualifying, and he could well pull out a medal. Let's go Red! Speed Skating - 11:00pm Men's 5000m Team USA Emery Lehman Thoughts/Background Information I'll admit to being a fan of Emery. But I don't think he will get a medal here. But he's also only 21, and in his second Olympics. So good for him. EDIT: You sniped me on that! I like the standings that you put in. Makes it look very nice. pjwasz 16 Posted February 11, 2018 #119 Share Posted February 11, 2018 Team USA 2018 - Winter Olympics Results Day 2 (February 11th) Alpine Skiing Men's Downhill Team USA Bryce Bennett Jared Goldberg Wiley Maple Thomas Biesemeyer Recap Jk, lol, too much wind. Biathlon Men's 10km Sprint Team USA Tim Burke - 47th Lowell Bailey - 33rd Leif Nordgren - 58th Sean Doherty - 65th Recap This one was bad. Particularly bad. No one shot clean, and we only had 2 clean stops at the range. Bailey was not skiing well at all, and this will not carry over at all well to tomorrow's pursuit race. Cross Country Skiing Men's 2 x 15km Skiathlon Team USA Patrick Caldwell - 51st Erik Bjornsen - 42nd Noah Hoffman - 54th Scott Patterson - 18th Recap Good result for Scott Patterson. Otherwise, this was another poor showing from the Americans Curling Mixed Doubles United States of America 5 vs Finland 7 Team USA Matt Hamilton Rebecca Hamilton Team Finland Oona Kauste Tomi Rantamaeki Recap *sigh* Just...unfortunate. Figure Skating Team Event(Short Dance, Ladies' Short, Pair's Free) Team USA Maia Shibutani - 2nd Alex Shibutani Bradie Tennell - 5th Alexa Scimeca Knierim - 4th Chris Knierim Recap Still in 3rd after the first Pairs Free Skate. However, we need some serious work to stay in the medals. Italy is doing well right now, and that worries me Freestyle Skiing Women's Moguls Qual 2, Finals Team USA Morgan Schild - 15th Jaelin Kauf - 7th Keaton McCargo - 8th Tess Johnson - 12th Recap Oof. I realize that this is sounding super negative, but this one was also disappointing, no one in the Super Final. That said, I'm older than every person on that team, and I'm 22, so I think we are in great shape for the future. Ice Hockey - Womens' United States of America 3 vs Finland 1 [I don't want to type all of their names] Recap This was good. I don't have much more to say beyond that. This was good. Luge Men's Runs 3 & 4 Team USA Chris Mazdzer - 2nd Taylor Morris - 18th Tucker West - 26th Recap MAZDZER WITH THE SILVER! This race was incredible. Heart stopping in the last 4 runs. I still can't believe Loch didn't medal, and that whole race was just so insane. So much fun. I love the Olympics. Snowboard Men's Slopestyle Finals Team USA Red Gerard - 1st Recap Red is Gold! Phenomenal run, stuck every landing, nailed every trick. Awesome. Awesome. Speed Skating - 11:00pm Men's 5000m Team USA Emery Lehman - 21st Recap Kind of expected. But still, being a top 25 athlete in an Olympic event while being a Civil Engineering student, not too shabby for Emery.
pjwasz 16 Posted February 11, 2018 #120 Share Posted February 11, 2018 Team USA 2018 - Winter Olympics Schedule All times in PST Day 3 (February 12th) Alpine Skiing Women's Giant Slalom - 5:15pm Team USA Tricia Mangan Megan McJames Mikaela Shiffrin Resi Stiegler Thoughts/Background Information Have you guys heard about this Mikaela Shiffrin? I haven't heard anyone talking about her. \sarcasm I can't add to her hype train anymore than NBC already has, but the crazy thing is, she's deserving of the hype. She's 3rd in the current World Cup standings in the Giant Slalom, and was 2nd last year. She's good. Biathlon Women's 10km Pursuit - 2:10am Team USA Emily Dreissigacker Men's 12.5km Pursuit - 4:00am Team USA Tim Burke Lowell Bailey Leif Nordgren Thoughts/Background Information Thoughts are the same for both races: We don't really have a chance. The Pursuit race is essentially the continuation of the sprint race, and the skiers will start at the intervals relative to how far back they were of the person who won the sprint race(e.g. If you were 3 seconds behind, you would start, 3 seconds later). Figure Skating Team Event(Men's Free, Ladies' Free, Free Dance) - 5:00pm Team USA Adam Rippon Mirai Nagasu Maia Shibutani Alex Shibutani Thoughts/Background Information Oh boy, this one kinda scares me now. I think our Pairs needed to do a bit better and Bradie needed a little better score. Here's hoping that we hold off Italy. Freestyle Skiing Men's Moguls Qual 2, Finals - 2:30am Team USA Casey Andringa Troy Murphy Emerson Smith Bradley Wilson Thoughts/Background Information Troy Murphy had a great 1st run, going through to the first final. Here's hoping that our other American folks can Qualify and get to the Super Final. Luge Women's Runs 1 & 2 - 2:50am Team USA Summer Britcher Erin Hamlin Emily Sweeney Thoughts/Background Information We have 3 great lugers in this race. If they can put down 4 good runs, and one of the Germans falter, we have a solid chance at another Luge medal. Ski Jumping Women's Normal Hill - 3:35am Team USA Nita Englund Sarah Hendrickson Abby Ringquist Thoughts/Background Information These 3 were potential medal threats 4 years ago, but the competition has caught up and far surpassed them. Not expecting a medal. Snowboard Women's Slopestyle Finals - 5:00pm Team USA Jamie Anderson Jessika Jenson Hailey Langland Julia Marino Thoughts/Background Information Jamie Anderson is the reigning X Games champion in this event and Julia Marino came in second. Honestly, these 4 are so good that I will be shocked if they don't win. Women's Halfpipe Qualification - 8:30pm Team USA Kelly Clark Arielle Gold Chloe Kim Maddie Mastro Thoughts/Background Information See above, then multiply it by 10. These 4 are even better. They are the top 4 from the last X Games, Clark has 3 Olympic medals, Kim has a perfect 100, Arielle Gold won the 2013 FIS Worlds, and Maddie Mastro is only 17. Speed Skating Women's 1500m - 4:30am Team USA Heather Bersgsma Brittany Bowe Mia Manganello Thoughts/Background Information Heather Bergsma won a 1000/1500 double world championship at the Gangneung Oval last year. Bowe is a threat for a medal as well, and it wouldn't shock me if she did very well. Manganello isn't a medal threat, but she's still pretty good. Hopefully they can break the Dutch Dominion.
