:USA Plans for 2018-2020 USA National Thread :USA

I notice that this National Thread is quite dead during the non Olympic months so I've created a system of posts that I will be posting from now until 2020. There will be three main different posts Week in Summer, Week in Winter, and Trek to Tokyo.

Week in Summer: The Week in Summer posts will be all different USA Summer Olympic sport news that don't have a direct correlation to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics such as FINA World Diving Series or events like that.

Week in Winter: These posts will be all different USA Winter Olympic sport news that don't have a direct correlation to the Beijing 2022 Olympics such as Curling World Championship or Alpine Skiing World Cup.

NOTE: DUE TO SO MANY WINTER & SUMMER SPORTS THESE POSTS WILL BE AT THE END OF EACH WEEK RECAPPING THE WEEK!

Trek to Tokyo: These posts are all about USA qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics. The posts will come as matches happen for qualifying.

NOTE: I know this will be a lot to handle but I've been working on a spreadsheet that helps me a ton, I think the only time I won't be able to post these is if I'm away from a computer (which is not much).  As we get closer to the Summer Olympics there will be more and more posts on Trek to Tokyo and probably less on Week in Summer. I've not yet finished my spread sheet for all the sports yet (I'm working on the summer sports first) so It might take a week or two before the Week in Summer & Week in Winter posts start up!

I am willing to help whenever. I have 2 text files that I update roughly every 3 months with upcoming events for various sports, USA or not, and also including e-sports events. I've attached them below.

League Watch List are leagues that stretch out over long periods of time.

Watch List is singular events

So, here's the part where my crazy comes out:

Predominantly Overwatch and Starcraft, sometimes CSGO and Rocket League, and the occasional Heroes of the Storm, Hearthstone, DotA and League.

Insane! I thought I watched a lot of esports. I watch CSGO, Rocket League and League of Legends mainly. I've never played Dota 2 or Overwatch but I'll still sometimes watch the matches.

I'm not sure if you know who SK Gaming is (number 2 team in CSGO right now) But I'm actually friends with three of their main players and a few other players from different teams. So I mainly watch CSGO

Yeah, I've met them a couple of time and sometimes talk to them on Twitter (they follow me ). Fallen is really one of the nicest people I've ever met.

I'm not sure if you know who Steel is (currently plays for Liquid, the Brazilian Steel) but he is really nice aswell.

For more information on this game and how it ties to qualification visit the "Basketball" section in this post below.

Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics

In order to qualify must be one of the top 2 Americas teams at 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup

2019 FIBA World Cup

In order to qualify must be one of top 7 teams at 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualification (Americas)

2019 FIBA World Cup Qualification (Americas)

:USA USA 83 - 75 Puerto Rico :PUR

This win gives us enough points to be in a very good spot to qualify for the second round of the World Cup Qualification. Puerto Rico is the next best ranked team in our group currently ranked 4th in the Americas Region (USA ranked 1st). A bigger point difference would have been preferred but nonetheless a win is a win!

Basketball

Men's

We got news this week that our National Team will be playing Australia in a Melbourne Exhibition Game on Aug 22nd and 24th. This will be a practice as Australia is currently ranked 10th in the world (USA 1st)

Women's

We have got the information on the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup Group D dates.

NOTES: Finding/Keeping up with information for Cycling and Boxing is tough and I'm still trying to find a good way to display it and such. I'm also still working on the spreadsheet with all the summer sports on them I still have a few left (school work was extreme past week) but That's why there was only a select number of sports posted nonetheless I wanted to get this post out. As weeks progress more and more detailed information I will be able to put down for the events/athletes

:USA  Week in Summer #2 - United States  :USA

March 18th - March 25th

Archery

Versus MX 2018 (Brady Ellison)

On March 22nd through March 25th Brady Ellison (Three-time Olympic Medalist) competed at Versus MX Shoot in Guadalajara, Mexico. He shot both Compound and Recurve (but for the sake of Olympics being Recurve we will only talk about that). Brady shot 686 out of 720 points to seed first in the overall men's recurve ranking round. Brady ended up placing 1st in the Recurve event!

Badminton

This week there was no competition this week with high ranking USA athletes as Orleans Masters 2018 is next week so I bet many USA athletes will be attending that event.

Basketball

There is not much news on Basketball as most of their games they play have some sort of direct correlation to the Tokyo Olympics. Here is the information for the Pan American games which I don't think are connected to the Olympic Qualifying in anyway.

Men's

Women's

Cycling

Road - UCI World Tour

Volta a Catalunya

Our current best Road Cycler Tejay Van Garderen competed at this event and placed 17th placing him at 162nd place in the World Tour Ranking. Tejay currently is in 78th place in the World Ranking.

We had our second best Cycler competeing at this event aswell, Brent Bookwalter came in 37th place and now is ranked 177th in the UCI World Tour. Brent is currently 120th in the World Ranking.

Canoe

Not much information has come out recently about USA Canoe as we get closer to the 2018 Canoe Slalom World Cup I should have more information.

As more and more Qualification's for the Olympics start coming out it will be easier for me to know what to put on these posts. I've been working hard on getting more and more information on everything but it takes time. I think this format is pretty good the yellow stands out well for each sport so it's easy to differentiate the sports. For the events which have a bunch of competitors (cycling, boxing, etc) I'm just gonna focus on the best ranked atheltes or else it would take me forever.

:USA  Week in Winter #2 - United States  :USA

March 11th - March 25th

(WIP)

Since I missed the previous week, I am covering both in this post.

Alpine Skiing

Going back to last week, we had the finals of the Alpine Skiing World Cup in Are, Sweden. In this, and the overall, the US fared very well on the women's side, but not as well on the men's side.

Ladies' Downhill:

Ladies' Super G:

Men's Super G:

Team Event:

Ladies' Slalom:

Men's Slalom:

alpine8.PNG.4633f68a592cb2d646775d737725695c.PNG

These results mean that Mikaela Shiffrin wins the Overall and Slalom Crystal Globes!

Biathlon

March 15th-18th there was a Biathlon WC Event in Oslo:

Women Sprint:

biathlon1.PNG.675bca4ce4968819517e84920f0d64a5.PNG

Men Sprint:

biathlon2.PNG.e5276149cabb7dc263a1a2c63dac8373.PNG

Women Relay:

Men Pursuit:

Men Relay:

biathlon7.PNG.97ff65e8cd3c25e9357614d636b9919d.PNG

This was a great result for our women, especially Susan Dunklee! A podium finish for her, just her 7th career, and coming off one at the World Championships last year.

This race was also significant for the US as it marked the end of the 2 top biathletes for the US, Lowell Bailey and Tim Burke. They both have had great careers and have come close to giving the US their first biathlon medal. I loved watching these gentlemen, and their absence will surely be felt.

There was a Biathlon World Cup event in Tyumen, Russia that was the following week and concluded the season. This race was boycotted by the United States because of continued suspicion of Russian doping allegations.

Bobsleigh

The Bobsleigh World Cup will resume 7-9 December in Sigulda, Latvia.

Cross-Country Skiing

Curling

Figure Skating

Freestyle Skiing

Ice Hockey

Luge

The Luge World Cup will resume in November.

Nordic Combined

Short Track Speed Skating

Skeleton

The Skeleton World Cup will resume 7-9 December in Sigulda, Latvia.

Ski Jumping

Snowboarding
