Vojthas 947 Posted February 1, 2018 #101 Share Posted February 1, 2018 The qualification systems will be discussed during pre-Olympic pre-Session meeting of IOC EB in Pyeongchang, to be exactly on the second day of the meeting - Sunday February the 4th. But, as we know, the time of publication might be different for different IFs. I've got a "leak" about field hockey - there's going to be some "Hockey Series Open" which will be the first step to Olympic qualifications. One tournament will be held in Gniezno with Central European countries, two of them will go further. @LDOG Do you know something more about this new competition (I assume it's some lower level after destructing the egalitarian World League in favour of Hockey Pro League for chosen elite countries)? I don't know about that name but it's probably like old the world league rounds for lower ranked countries. That should places in final olympic qualification tournament, which will be one big tournament with 12 teams. dcro 10,172 Posted February 7, 2018 #108 Share Posted February 7, 2018 FIG made things really complicated. It will take some time to study it, but you know how it is, Totallympians have to know these by heart. thepharoah 1 #banbestmen

I'm really glad they are giving apparatus specialists a chance at qualifying. Criteria 6 and 7 is a bit interesting for NOCs whom qualified a team. Those athletes won't be allowed to compete in the team event so in theory they wouldn't be strong all-around athletes. I guess it's an additional way to qualify apparatus specialists from NOCs with teams (since they aren't eligible under criterion 4), but then we're back to those athletes trying to qualify through all-around events. I actually heard about that major change a while ago. Some people from Croatian federation were advocating the idea of having more apparatus specialists represented (since pretty much every gymnast here is an apparatus specialist, and not the all-around specialist), and I know that one of them was in the team that assembled this system. I guess it makes sense, as it makes life easier for apparatus specialists from both big and small nations. Having some out-and-out apparatus specialist instead of 5th best all-around athletes from bigger nations should make apparatus finals more interesting. #banbestmen
