20 nations in mens ice hockey. awesome :d

But only 4 nations are allowed to compete for the medals (:kaz:CHN:JPN:KOR)! They should've allowed a few more nations into the medal winning group to give others like Hong Kong a bit of a chance!

European Athletics have announced they have agreed to be part of the Minsk 2019 European Games with an “innovative event” set to feature.

Svein Arne Hansen, President of European Athletics, told insidethegames earlier this month he would hold talks with the Belarusian organisers in order to have more athletics competitions part of the event.

The Norwegian stated European Athletics were working with the organisers on delivering a format for athletics competition at the Games, which will be the second edition.

It has now been confirmed athletics will be part of the Games, with more details on the format set to be revealed in April.

"It will be a new athletics product," a European Athletics spokesperson told insidethegames.

"European Athletics is now working on the development of this product."

At the inaugural event in Baku last year, the athletics competition comprised the European Athletics Team Championships Third League competition which involved the host nation Azerbaijan.

Hansen had dismissed the prospect that the same level of competition would feature in Minsk

Maksim Ryzhenkov, first vice-president of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus, had been strongly in favour of having athletics competition feature at Minsk 2019.

He has claimed preference would be given to sports offering qualification for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo when it came to inclusion on the sport programme.

Venues due to host events at the second European Games in Minsk in 2019 have been given the all-clear by Pierce O'Callagan, the European Olympic Committees' (EOC) senior sports consultant.

O'Callagan visited the capital of Belarus for three days and has provided positive feedback.

The Irish consultant, director of sport at the inaugural European Games in Baku in 2015, visited the main sites to be used during the competition in two-and-a-half years time.

These included the rowing channel in Zaslavl, the Minsk Arena and the Sports Palace.

"I can state with full responsibility that the Minsk sports facilities are 100 per cent ready to host the second European Games," said O'Callagan.

"During the visit, I was able to visit a few hotels of a high category.

"These facilities meet all the requirements for receiving guests while the student village meets all the conditions for competitors to live."

O'Callagan was joined on the tour by Maksim Ryzhenkov, first vice-president of the Belarus National Olympic Committee, and the governing body's secretary general Anatol Kotau.

Minsk was confirmed as host of the Games at the EOC General Assembly in the city in October.

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the commitment to step in as host following a meeting with Janez Kocijančič, the acting President of the EOC.
