The most important thing about this tournament (because it's the first step towards, maybe, the Tokyo Olympics)...

"The top ten classified of 5 categories (kg. 48, 57, 60, 69 and 75) will get a pass to the participation to the 2019 European Championships set at Minsk, Belarus."

European Games*

Btw, 9th and 10th place will be decided by those who lost to eventual finalist in 1/8 finals... Gotta love the randomness. :p

In boxing (and judo and a few other sports) the European Games will be valid as 2019 European Championships.

Maybe this is a mistake on their site... 48 kg is not a category that is supposed to be part of Minsk 2019, only the Olympic categories (51, 57, 60, 69, 75 kg) are in the programme.

probably it is...I just did Copy & paste that sentence from EUBC's website...:dunno:

p.s. by the way, the +81kg class has only 6 starters, which means that the first 2 seeded fighters (Sennur Demir, TUR & Kristina Tkacheva, RUS) are already through to the semifinals and have a guaranteed medal before the competition actually starts...:yikes::facepalm::wall:

8 Countries with at least 1 fighter in today's finals (among those, Russia have 7, Bulgaria 4 and Turkey 3...is that just a coincidence? I don't think so...:facepalm::wall:)
6 more Nations, instead, can enjoy at least 1 medal, but no Gold and/or Silver, since their best fighters stopped their campaign in the semifinals (which means they won the Bronze medal in their respective weight class)...
in total, 14 Countries will come back home with some honor.

The Gold medal bouts are scheduled for today @ 5 p.m. local time (4 p.m. CET, live streaming on the EUBC Youtube page)...

What makes you think that there is cheating in boxing? Not that I claim there is not, I am just ignorant about the issue and wondering.

One good example came during the last Olympics, where a Russian was beaten up so badly by an Irish guy (forgive me if I'm mixing up nationalities here) that he couldn't even start his next fight...yet the jury decided the Russian 'won'.

If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Full story and how to help can be found here!
