  1. I don't think 7 quotas it's possible since continental championships is only open to: 1) NOCs with a max. of 5 athletes qualified (team + World Cup) or 2) NOCs with a max. of 3 individual athletes. Therefore, for nations that have qualified a team of 4, the max. quotas is 6. For nations that haven't qualified a team, the max. is also 6 in theory, but won't happen to any nation now since none will qualify 3 individual athletes in apparatus finals.
  2. 3/4 athletes of Brazil had a fall in horizontal bar, I believe
  3. Also Onder Ahmet in Parallel Bars, right? (although final it's not a sure thing yet)
  4. I'm glad Brazil didn't qualify a full team: 1) we can focus on the girls that actually have a shot at a good result in Tokyo instead of worrying about old/injured athletes that add nothing to the team; 2) maybe something will change in our gymnastics federation that surely is one of the worst in Brazil - the disaster today wasn't simply a matter of "bad luck", but also has to do with the terrible planning this confederation has.

  6. Groups for the Americas pre-qualifying tournaments. So basically a mini-South American championship for 1 spot since USA is already qualified (slight advantage for Argentina since they play at home). Canada easily will be first in the other group with Puerto Rico in good shape to take the last spot.
  7. Ana Sátila (who opted for the canoe quota) has been chosen by the brazilian federation as our representative in both C1 and K1 in Tokyo (source). The same does not apply to Pedro Gonçalves (Men's K1), who will have to win the selection event next year.
  8. Honestly I don't enjoy many routines today because of that (not only in groups, but individual too). It's just skill after skill after skill, and many times they have nothing to do with the music (or aren't even remotely synched).
  9. Proving once again that artistry means very little for this sport (even more now).
  10. So Japan will probably get their first Olympic medal in rhythmic gymnastics in Tokyo. This reminds me when China got their first ever medal (and, to date, the only one) in rhythmics at the Beijing Olympics, in one of the most controversial results of this sport. It was the last day of the Games, and in order to China to achieve 100 medals in the table, a medal for the team all-around was required. At the time, there were many comments saying that the judges felt so pressured (to say the least) that they gave China the silver, denying Italy (which ended 4th) a medal, even though they had an iconic routine (below) - which is one of the most memorable of all time IMO. Italy won silver in the World Championships prior to the Games while China was 9th, improving over 2 points in each routine for the Olympic Games. After the Olympics scandal, Italy went to win gold at the 2009 Worlds (reparations?), while strangely enough China didn't even participate. They never again reached the Olympics/Worlds podium.
  11. Why would any nation send their best team when this team will easily earn a quota for said nation via ranking? Brazil for instance will get 2 pairs each gender in the rankings, so we sent a team that I think is not even eligible for Olympic participation (Angela/Carol), just to participate I guess?
  12. Tonight a minute's silence was held before the Series B match between Operario and Ponte Preta in tribute to Rodrigo. Huk's team won 2-1.
  13. Indeed. I will never forget the conversations we had in our group during Olympics. For some reason, I remember when he sent me a message at the first day of the Games saying there was no food at the Shooting venue where I was going to watch a final (he was there since the preliminary round). Seems like a silly memory, but shows how nice he was. The Rio 2016 days are even more bittersweet now.
  14. It is with great sadness that I share the news that our dear friend Rodrigo Huk (@hukbrazil) has passed away at the age of 25. As a young journalist, he worked for the website Surto Olímpico at the 2016 Rio Olympics, being one of the Totallympics members to attend those Games. An extremely humble and sensible guy, he was beloved and admired by the members of our brazilian sports group, leaving great memories for everyone who knew him. Huk will be greatly missed.
