  1. I feel like the commentators are not paying a whole lot of attention to the overall standings...I'm watching the lead now and keeping track of all the positions while doing so. I've got three climbers to go, and this is the current standing (yellow = finished lead / the 1 for the three who didn't finish yet is because Excel of course if there's no number there, Excel makes the total be 0 too / ranking on the far right is the current lead ranking) Now, Coxsey is on the wall and the commentator is talking about how 'a top half finish might be enough, or even top-12'. But even if she were to finish 20th, she'd have 280 points and so be assured of a top-6 finish in the overall, meaning she could (in theory) just step on the first hold, drop down and still qualify. Same for Garnbret. Or am I missing something here and are Garnbret and Coxsey not yet 100% certain of qualifying in the current (in my example) situation?
  2. Bit of a scary moment for Elia Viviani, Steven Kruijswijk, Peter Sagan and a few others. They were on their way from Monaco to the Netherlands when due to an oil leak they had to make a bit of an emergency landing The organizer of the race they're participating in said his wife told him the plane had gone off the radar which obviously scared him to pieces, but they're all ok
  3. Oh trust me, it happens plenty of times Especially in these US races where there's often some stages that are a simple local lap being done X times, which makes things confusing. The second scenario happens mostly in races where it's A to B instead of laps and, it might surprise you, it doesn't actually happen only in races with no radio
  4. Says the person who likes every wrong way of playing hockey
  5. Watching the combined boulder qualification and I just love watching the speed specialists attempt it Speed specialists doing boulder and especially lead sounds a whole lot like sprinters in speed skating doing a 5 or even a 10 kilometer race (like former world class sprinter Erben Wennemars when he decided to give the allround a go and qualified for - and raced - the 10k in a full Heerenveen stadium where he didn't do halfbad at all )
  6. Antifa extremists going mad in Portland yesterday (just open the thread/click on the tweets, there's a boatload of tweets, not just these ones).
  7. Start list for today's Ushuaia Loppet (50km) and the Marchablanca (25km) in the southernmost skiing area in the world. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vTsmbth22OwfuKP4bNDQxMmLwMY9evHO8hI_rGHU6Bmdy4MHRPXN87R7oQmp-XtlEm1ehVmAsAAp3_i/pub?output=pdf It's the opening of the World Loppet 2019/20 season as well
  8. The day after his one lap early celebration, McCormick went straight on the attack again and in the final kilometers he attacked together with Aussie Lachlan Morton (McCormick is actually from New Zealand, my bad) on their way to Canyon Village/Park City, including a ride through the Olympic Park. It was so close in the end, but McCormick came up 2 centimeters short to take the win Now I want McCormick to win a pro race anywhere, don't care when or where
  9. Don't expect anything else from her, she is in fact a very kind person. I ain't cheering for her for no reason
  10. I think we did that (very rarely) at school, cool
  11. There's no too much in speed skating I know, not fair and everything, but this was epic. Just, epic. But fine, we're digressing, this is about biathlon I'm kind of annoyed at there not being full results from Australia yet, come on.
  12. Like we have more than 10 people who even know what on earth fistball is I can guarantee more people will think "the fuck kind of fetish is that?" instead of "which sport is that?" when you say "Hey. Fistball."
  13. Not last! Can't wait for the celebrations to begin
  14. I still don't know if I'm sad about it or not, it depends entirely on the legendary Medeo speed skating rink. If they put a roof on it I'm happy they didn't get it (and this seems the likely option), if they leave it as it is, I'd be happy if they get it Medeo = epic
  15. I mean, it's sad and costly for the team and all (the driver got out quickly and was perfectly fine, no worries), but it kinda made me laugh a little that during the TCR race at the German Nürburgring, the car of Bradley Burns of all people caught fire. Minor detail: Burns is a Team Pyro driver. Can't make this shit up.
  16. Considering the attention span of today's sports viewers, speed climbing runs are way too long. They take at least 5-6 seconds man, how can one stay engaged that long?!
  17. And after two weeks of watching a lot of climbing (pretty much the entire season except for Moscow which I had seen at the time) I'm now finally all caught up and updated Very much enjoyed both the boulder and lead competitions at these championships Even though I'm a bit underwhelmed with the overall atmosphere as compared to Innsbruck, which seemed much 'bigger' and impressive.
  18. Finished watching and I'm disappointed - Alipour and Mawem, my two favourite speed climbers, out because of an early mistake - Song on her way to a potential world record in the semi but slipped and lost - Fossali in the final because Boldyrev made a false start in the semi - Jaubert took bronze in the only possible way: because someone else slipped (all her wins I've seen were because of slips or false starts) - Disappointingly poor men's final and to make it worse, Kriz lost (I like Kriz, much like Alipour and Mawem he climbs with some sort of awesome animalistic style, as if nature made them for this...it's like watching a work of art) At least Miroslaw's fantastic time in the final made up for some disappointments
  19. I should have some photos from around there from when my girlfriend was running around the course sending photos of the biathletes in action while I was watching the live stream (she competed in the cross-country instead of the biathlon there). Don't specifically remember bushes and trees, but I do remember it was this beautiful open snowy plains.
  20. No penalty lap for Jill there, excellent
  21. Watching the speed finals now and the commentator made a bit of a weird remark: "Iuliia Kaplina broke the world record...more than seven times!" So what, she broke it eight times? Why not just say "She broke the world record eight times" then?
  22. If you can somehow watch the final 4km of today's 3rd stage in the Arctic Race of Norway, do! (it's on the Eurosport Player for example) What a race and mostly, what a freakishly steep final climb I mean, sure, I remember some climbs like the Angliru with incredibly steep parts, but here it just kept going and going and then there's a corner and it just goes up even more Storheia summit (Melba), what a monster.
  23. I'm guessing this was supposed to be a replay of the 2nd match of the final, which was never actually finished but resulted in Tunis winning anyway despite actually winning? I've seen and read stuff about AIBA, FIFA and whatnot, but that is still arguably the worst bit of decision-making I've ever seen
