  1. What's the link between the sailors who "won" the quota and American Samoa? Adrian Hoesch seems to be a German and was representing Germany - wouldn't be surprised if he was a rich guy buying his way into the Olympics after googling his name.
  2. Any official confirmation? It's surely true that South Africa have relaxed their criteria and will have more athletes in Tokyo across many sports...https://www.sascoc.co.za/2020/01/24/six-months-count-down-to-tokyo-2020-olympic-games/
  3. Rankings are here: https://www.fig-gymnastics.com/site/rankings/ranking_wag.php https://www.fig-gymnastics.com/site/rankings/ranking_mag.php Everything else is explained in this pdf - criteria 5ART Olympic Qualification Tie-breaking Rules_E._FINALpdf.pdf
  4. Representing a small / exotic NOC does not automatically mean that you had to overcome more difficulties...and some athletes qualifying in a very easy way only take advantage of their heritage (or money...) but have lived all their life elsewhere.
  5. [hide] IN: J.T. Boe OUT: Tarjei Boe Nation Captains FRA M. Fourcade NOR T. Eckhoff Nation Women GER Denise Herrmann ITA D. Wierer CZE Marketa Davidova FRA Anais Bescond Nation Men NOR J T Boe GER Benedikt Doll SWE Sebastian Samuelsson RUS A. Loginov [/hide]
  6. Apples and oranges...just checked 2007-2008 WCH results/WC ranking: Haneda was very well in the top 16 if we count one per country (completely deserving his Olympic spot since 16 quotas were available), Jones was not good but still her spot was somewhat acceptable: around 21th place in the one per country ranking with 21 quotas for the event, and no country with at least a canoeist top 30 missed out. They were no Pita Taufatofua.
  7. Why not? A draw can be performed immediately by the software. I won't go searching for the rules, it was clear from her interview that Shiffrin (ranked 1) didn't pick her course but was assigned to the red course.
  8. I'd prefer to merge Oceania with Asia and have only 4 regions (with only one America). For team sports, one place for every continent and the rest to be decided in global tournaments (held after the continental ones). For individual sports, continental places to be granted only if there is someone in the top x of the ranking. The majority of African and Oceanians NOCs don't care about most sports anyway, giving them free spots would make sense only as a form of encouragement if there was a growing trend of participation.
  9. There was a draw - Shiffrin was critical of this procedure during the interview just after the race with Rai Sport.
  10. Poor Slovenia, the stupid system in basketball will give them a big chance to go to the Olympics even if they didn't bother qualifying for the World Cup. And the European title won in 2017 won't qualify them to the Olympics that are held three years later, what a scandal. Something similar is happening for Italy, that won't be in Tokyo despite winning the 1999 Eurobasket.
  11. well then he must be lying, that was the source of the articles anyway - I don't know if they can or not or if the (N)OC were involved. Anyway it seems obvious to me that Italians will at least try to add natural track luge and ski mountaineering.
  12. Actually Flavio Roda, the president of FISI - Italian Winter Sports Federation said that "as a federation we have submitted an application to the IOC in order to have natural track luge as an Olympic discipline in 2026" https://www.fisi.org/slittino-pista-naturale/news/20646-il-presidente-flavio-roda-in-val-passiria-per-la-tappa-di-cdm-uno-sport-che-mi-affascina-lavoriamo-per-farlo-diventare-disciplina-olimpica so unless he's lying they've started taking the first official step- if this application will be taken into consideration by the IOC or not is another matter.
  13. Or if you give one star (=total trash) to Joker then you have never watched any really bad movie
  14. With serpentine system without ranking Japan number 1 the only changes in group B would be Serbia instead of China (no big difference, they are the 2 strongest teams) and Japan instead of Russia (again no big difference, currently Russia is not better than Japan playing at home)
  15. Apparently the semifinals are: UKR-EST ITA-FRA Final EST-ITA
  16. Am I wrong or did they increase the time to 15 seconds per question instead of 10?
  17. News from Cuba from https://www.facebook.com/FencingTokyo/ Quarter finals: POL-UKR EST-USA CHN-ITA FRA-RUS
  18. And we can add as mathematically qualified Italy and Egypt (men), Japan (women)
  19. Regarding water polo, IOC had reduced team sizes from 13 to 11, but FINA seems to have reached an agreement with them to bring team sizes to 12 + 1 substitute - it's not officially confirmed by IOC yet as far as I know https://www.wpdworld.com/en-news/tokyo-2020-12-players-roster/
  20. 9/10 for me, but I'm out of the race having missed the first quiz.
  21. Kenya beat Cameroon 3-2 and they only need a (sure) win against Nigeria to qualify.
  22. [hide] IN: Tarjei Boe OUT: J.T. Boe Nation Captains NOR Tarjei Boe ITA Dorothea Wierer Nation Women GER Denise Herrmann NOR T. Eckhoff CZE Marketa Davidova FRA Anais Bescond Nation Men FRA Martin Fourcade GER Benedikt Doll SWE Sebastian Samuelsson RUS A. Loginov [/hide]
  23. yeah but you must have read them somewhere given that you know the prize for the winner
  24. where do you see the prizes? The "prizes" page on that link is empty.
