  1. OQTs remaining women's Epee: Barcelona (11/02/2024) & Nanjing (24/03/2024) women's Foil: Paris (14/01/2024) & Cairo (25/02/2024) women's Sabre: Lima (11/02/2024); Athens (03/03/2024) & Sint-Niklaas (17/03/2024) men's Epee: Heidenheim (24/02/2024) & Buenos Aires (24/03/2024) men's Foil: Paris (14/01/2024) & Cairo (25/02/2024) men's Sabre: Tbilisi (11/02/2024); Padua (03/03/2024) & Budapest (24/03/2024)
  2. just to underline the "newcomer" Lopez's career 2021: 353kg Total in the -89kg at the Jr. Pan-Am Champs, then he got caught for doping 2023: back from suspension, 371kg Total at the World Champs in the -96kg 3 months ago Yesterday: 391kg Total in the -89kg class (destroying the field with 180kg in the Snatch) is it me or this guy is not trustable at all? less than any other lifter, I mean (and you know what I mean)
  3. In the men's -89kg class, a final C&J lift of 223kg gave Karlos Nasar victory with a Total of 393kg, despite being down in 6th place in snatch (170kg), and put him in the record books yet again. By surpassing both his own junior mark and Tian Tao’s senior world record in C&J he took his tally of world records at youth, junior and senior level to 30 since April 2021. Yeison Lopez Lopez, who has competed at 96kg after serving a doping suspension last year, made a six-from-six 180-210-390kg for 2nd place. He overtakes team-mate Brayan Rodallegas in the extended rankings and now he's 3rd behind Li Dayin from China, who withdrew here, and Nasar. Olympic Bronze medallist (behind 2 convicted dopers ) Antonino Pizzolato is one of the 3 lifters who made huge moves in the rankings. On his return from a back injury that stopped him lifting in 3 qualifiers, Pizzolato made four good lifts for 170-210-380kg. That gave him 3rd place in Doha and 6th useful place in the OQR. The 3rd big move was by Boady Santavy, who had his elbow reconstructed ten months ago and lifted at 96kg on his return at the World Championships in Saudi Arabia two months ago. Santavy, 26, made 172-100-372kg for snatch silver, 6th place on Total and 9th place in the OQR. This was his 1st career competition at 89kg. Keydomar Vallenilla, 3rd in snatch behind Lopez Lopez and Santavy, missed his last two C&J efforts and finished 5th on 171-207-378kg, one place behind the Ro Kwang Yol, who took C&J silver on 168-211-379kg. Marin Robu dropped out of the top ten in the OQR after he bombed out in snatch in the B Group. Two members of the IWF executive board were involved in an intriguing multi-national tussle lower down the rankings, where things get complicated for athletes chasing the one continental slot for Paris 2024. Forrester Osei, chair of the IWF Athletes Commission who lifts for and Kyle Bruce. It started well for Osei with a 145kg C&J but was followed by 5 no-lifts, leaving him with a lot to do. Osei, who was born in London, raised in Ghana and now works as a strength and conditioning coach in Qatar, will need to improve his best total by about 25kg by the end of qualifying in April. Osei and others in contention from will also need an ranked in the top ten, Karim Abokahla, to move up to 102kg for Paris, which he may do. If he does, the 89kg continental place will be open to athletes from Africa or Oceania, rather than Oceania only.
  4. Two athletes still young enough to compete as juniors made day seven of the IWF Grand Prix in Doha the most exciting day yet. In the women’s 71kg, the 20-year-old Olivia Reeves set seven junior world records in 5 lifts to enhance her ranking position. Song Kuk Hyang finished 1st ahead of the Olympic rankings leader Liao Guifang, but the most exciting contest was a head-to-head between Reeves and the Olympic 76kg silver medallist Kate Vibert, who finished 3rd and 4th. Despite dropping down to 71kg and making a career-high total that exceeded her Olympic performance by 5kg, Vibert finds herself in a worse position in the rankings because of Reeves’ run of success. Nations can send only athlete per weight category and now has two in the top 4 on the extended list after Reeves made 115-147-262kg, setting junior world records across the board, and Vibert finished 112-142-254kg. Song failed with a world record attempt on her last lift. She made 120-149-269 while Liao finished 116-148-264, which is 9kg below her best qualifying total. Others who made big gains in the rankings were Vanessa Sarno, up 10kg to 249kg (from 9th to 5th useful place in the OQR), and Olympic bronze medallist Chen Wen-Huei, up 8kg to 243kg (sneakin' in into the top 10, 8th useful place in the OQR now, climbing from previous 12th). Mun Minhee made a 7kg gain in the B group, finishing 1kg behind Eyglo Sturlodottir, who made 104-127-231kg to move within striking distance of the top ten of the OQR (still she has almost 10 lifters yet to pass). the unlucky lifter of the day is Amanda Da Costa Schott, who dropped momentarily out of the top 10 of the OQR.
  5. Grand Prix II ( Doha) men's -81kg Gold: Karlos May Nasar (393kg Total) Silver: Yeison Lopez Lopez (391kg Total) Bronze: Antonino Pizzolato (380kg Total)
  6. Grand Prix II ( Doha) women's -71kg Gold: Song Kuk Hyang (269kg Total) Silver: Liao Guifang (264kg Total) Bronze: Olivia Lynn Reeves (262kg Total)
  7. don't underestimate and they might upset both and as I wrote, this is definitely the most uncertain qualification race of them all p.s. @Gianlu33 no, women's Foil team is not yet mathematically qualified they're virtually in, but theoretically they could still lose their place (not going to post the whole calculation, as it's just an exercise of style)
  8. sorry, I couldn't manage that yesterday...it will come later today
  9. the men's Epee, instead, is a real mess and are all involved in a very hard fight for the top 4 places, which of course would determine also the Continental spots with 2 rounds to go, only and look quite safe, but for all the remaining spot (and their influence on who is going to qualify or not) it's definitely to close to call right now really, anything can still happen p.s. as often happens, are the only safe qualifier, as they have no opponents in the African Continent and they're too good to drop outside the top 16 of the overall ranking
  10. in the women's Epee, are closing the gap (but they're still quite distant from) and for the Top 4 places in the OQR, but unless something catastrphic happens, all of these teams are in good position to earn their Olympic spot. the only real threat looks to be , if they can get another couple of top 2 placings in the last competitions of the OQP and one or more of the above teams miss out on good positions the remaining Continental spots should go to the currents "owners", as their main rivals are way behind and only a top 2 placing in the next events might move the ranking for them ( are basically qualified because of lack of opponents, both in the African dedicated standing and also in the overall ranking there's no risk for them to drop outside the top 16)

  14. not the Italian swimmers at all, only Ceccon in the past they heavily criticized him for meaningless things (and I'm not a fan of him as a character, I must admit) p.s. I'm not talking of not recognizing his achievements, it's more about his attitude and not being the nicest guy on poolside
  15. no, 117 is correct...I only put them in the wrong position below , but now I have fixed that
  16. so, basically nothing changed in the women's Team Foil actually, the current situation has been consolidated after Today's event we have 3 teams () that only need mathematical confirmation of their quota place, meanwhile is safe in 4th place at the moment, but not completely out of reach from still, they have a comfortable lead over , who would be the team in danger should the North Americans sneak in into the Top 4 but since the Americas don't have a 3rd team in the top 16 of the ranking, they would still be in perfect place to earn a repechage spot so, we can say that the first 6 teams of the ranking are reasonably in place to qualify, leaving only 2 open battles: vs (and maybe , but they need more than a miracle) for the European spot and trying to save their place in the top 16 to earn the African spot (should earn another top 10 finish, there's a high risk for to drop to 17th and lose their qualifying position).

  19. by the way, Today's semis in the women's Team Foil are vs and vs (who beat in the quarterfinals )
  20. naaa...also lost in the Quarterfinals, so you still have a chance to play for more points than them and in any case, you're still close enough...it's gonna be a close battle until the last hit of the last tournament nothing's gonna be decided earlier, surely not Today
  21. interesting situation... have overtaken in the top 4 of the OQR, which means that earn the current status of best European team outside the direct qualifying places, meanwhile still have the Asian spot, but are pushing a few points behind and even are not completely out of contention, despite Today's bad result. the current top 3 of the OQR () and the continental spots for Africa () and Americas () look safe. Actually, only maths leave the door open for them to be upset, but it's almost impossible that anything's gonna happen to them. The only truly open fights are those concerning the last direct OQR spot and the Asian rumble. instead can only hope that both and keep going and end up in the top 4 of the OQR, that's the only way for them to qualify.

  23. yes, all of Today's team events are also OQTs
  24. did you really think he could leave the LA area?
  25. He admitted his error in the 200m IM (not touching with both hands in a turn), but he definitely denied the second fly kick after a turn in the 100m IM yesterday and more in general, there are too many DQs...it looks that all swimmers can't swim anymore (those of swimswam know swimming very well, but they are also really biased towards Ceccon...it's not the first time they write bad comments about him )
