  1. Yep, lots of free passes here and controversial decisions -- always beneficial to Japan, of course -- at the 2020 Olympics. I hope they never host anything related to the Summer Olympics again while I'm alive. It's easier for me to be elected the most handsome man in the world than it is for all of this to have been a mere coincidence.
  2. With no sports where athletes receive subjective scores, it's hard for Japan to keep pushing for a higher place on the medal table. I mean, except for Equestrian. My point is: no surfing, skateboarding or gymnastics to artificially increase their medal tally this time. Not one single gold medal earned by the Japanese in these sports at the 2020 Olympics was deserved, in my opinion.
  3. Now all that's left for Brazil are the marathon events and the bronze medal match in badminton. I know Vitor is the reigning World bronze medalist, and I had high hopes before the event, but somehow I think he had a much better chance of beating the guy from than the guy from . I have little to no hope of a medal in the final day, what is a shame because we have won more than one medal on every single day of the competition so far.
  4. The Koper Challenge Cup is underway. I'm very impressed with William Emard.
  5. Of course we had to lose the gold medal by 0.004. Of course.
  6. A medal for ! I'm surprised! After I didn't expect any new countries to win medals for the first time, especially because in 2016 and 2012 only one new country earned a medal in each edition: in 2016 and in 2012.
  7. The fact that Brazil qualified 2 athletes for a final with only 4 persons and got one of them disqualified and the other one did not finish is really something else.
  8. It's so nice to see one swimmer from the city I used to live in, Joinville, earning a medal in swimming! Beautiful team work!
  9. The definitive registrations are still being updated at the FIG website. According to the directives, this process should have been completed about one month ago, but here we are and they're still updating the list. Probably the only notable change has been the inclusion of .
  10. 1 - I was tempted to give it a 10, but since we could have walked away with 10+ gold medals easily but lost some important chances, ending up with 7 gold medals, I will give it a 9 out of 10. Still, the best Olympics ever for Brazil, no question about it. But it could have been even better. 2 - There has never been an official goal, but the unofficial goal was to reach 20 medals and we reached 21. So, I believe everything went well, maybe even better than expected. 3 - The biggest surprise has to be a bronze medal in tennis. It's not like we didn't expect a medal -- we did, but with Soares/Melo. Stefani/Pigosi winning a medal was not part of anyone's plans. As far as disappointments go, volleyball/beach volleyball with only 1 silver medal has got to be the biggest villains. But maybe surfing and skateboarding could also be seen as disappointments. We expected 2 more medals in surfing and at least 1 gold medal in skateboarding. We could have earned 3 to 5 more medals in these sports, but our athletes fell short. 4 - Artistic gymnastics will be the sport that will receive the most funding, I'm sure. It has received lots and lots of money in the past, but now it will be even more. Our junior female gymnasts are not good, though, so we need all the money in the world to help them grow.
  11. Only now I noticed this thread. Here we go again. I'm already excited for Paris!
  12. Definitive registrations have been updated for the World Championships. To see the file, go here, click on "show files" then on "definitive registration". It's nice to see that Syria, Serbia, Luxembourg and, especially, Bangladesh are sending gymnasts. Syria is not really a surprise, though, since they have a good vaulter that lives and trains in the United States. However, I'm very intrigued about Bangladesh. I didn't expect them to send any gymnasts. I'm kind of sad about Malaysia and Indonesia missing out entirely, unfortunately. Also, a question for our members: why won't Spain send any women to the World Championships? Spain competed with a full team at the Olympics and Popa could even challenge for medals. What happened?
  13. Gordo e desengonçado do jeito que eu sou, se eu tentar um movimento, caio e saio rolando no chão feito croquete no óleo quente...
  14. Completely unrealistic, but you never know when FIG is going to do something stupid. It's basically the Homer Simpson of international federations: if you watch long enough, you will see it doing something really stupid. I just mentioned floor and vault because there's no way FIG would remove pommel horse and parallel bars, so floor and vault are the apparatus that are "repeated" in women's artistic gymnastics, so I guess it would be somehow easier to justify their exclusion because they would still be part of the Olympic program, but restricted to women, instead? Anyway, just a bunch of crazy theories that won't happen... Hopefully.
  15. Yes, but I learned to quickly see their names in the quoted posts and just stop reading and moving on. In 2013 (I can't believe I've been around for so long) there was a Polish user named Pavlo and he was the first person I consciously learned to ignore. Then he vanished, I think, or he changed his name here and became a better person, who knows? But ever since we got the ability to ignore some users, it's great because I can't even see when they quote me, and this makes all the difference. This has made this forum a much better place to visit, in my opinion.
  16. Believe it or not, I had never heard about this podcast before you mentioned it here. I listened to one of the episodes and their complete disdain for Max Whitlock made me roar with laughter. They claimed he deserved to be deducted in every single skill he performed in the final and I just couldn't help but laugh hard. Great people!
  17. All I can say is: the ability to ignore some users does wonders for my mental health here.
  18. LOL, this is one of the funniest proposals I've seen so far. In the early editions of the Olympics, men didn't compete on floor, and women had an extra event called portable apparatus, which is basically what group rhythmic gymnastics is nowadays. However, women did compete on the parallel bars in the past, so if this crazy idea actually turns out to be even remotely considered, I see men losing one event (floor) and women getting one extra event (parallel bars). Of course, this would only happen if FIG goes the extra mile to use the history of the sport to justify anything. Also, I believe that in some competitions in the United States, women also performed on rings. But this idea is almost absurd nowadays. Another proposal would be men's events being shortened, with floor and vault gone. It would be sad, but a special version of the all-around competition could happen at the Olympics with only four events...
  19. This would be both simple and logical. FIG could also add 2 sets of medals to the group events, so the extra boxing event would not need to be removed and one extra weight category could be added to another sport, presumably weightlifting.
  20. Thank you! This shows a much clearer picture of where rhythmic gymnastics stands and how it fits in the so-called "gender equality" proposal. I am one of the only ones here who likes the idea to push gender equality, but I was worried about how the IOC is going to make it work. This document explains things a lot better.
  21. A ideia é interessante, mas também estou sem tempo para assumir o controle do fórum. As aulas presenciais voltaram e meu trabalho agora duplicou: em casa, com aulas remotas, e presencialmente na escola. Alguém consegue assumir a liderança disso?
  22. I really don't understand what people want. If Russia wins everything, this sport is a mess, it should be removed from the Olympics, the world is doomed. If Russia loses the gold medal, this sport is a mess, it should be removed from the Olympics, the world is doomed.
  23. If you think that what happened at the Olympics was bad enough, you should remember what happened in your own country. In short, a Filipino gymnast was given a gold medal she never deserved because the event was staged in the Philippines. Now, this is what I call bad judging and robbery towards the host nation. What happened at the Olympics was perfectly normal. Watch this:
  24. 95% of my enjoyment comes from gymnastics events. I don't think we've ever had an edition of the Olympics with more surprises and dramas than Tokyo. Some of the highlights: 1) Simone Biles showed huge character by stepping out of most of the finals. I've become an admirer after such strength. 2) ROC winning two team events surprising everyone. 3) Gold medal for Brazil, of course. 4) First-ever medals for Armenia, New Zealand and Turkey. 5) Drama, tears and crazy results in rhythmic gymnastics, with ROC this time losing both events. Seriously, I couldn't have asked for more. I liked this edition and it's been the best ever OG for me. Yes, it would have been even better if spectators were allowed, but given the situation, Japan did a good job. I have lots and lots of complaints about the Japanese government and their lack of responsibility by failing to vaccinate the population, but this has nothing to do with the Olympics per se. I enjoyed skateboarding a lot, and it has become one of the top 5 sports for me. I didn't like surfing at all. Karate was an absurd and unnecessary addition, in my opinion, and I'm glad it will probably never return to the program. I'm also glad Baseball will be gone, hopefully for good. The only thing I miss is that there isn't an specific athlete this time that can be recognized as the face of the Olympics, like we've had with Bolt and Phelps. For me, I guess it will be Biles. She proved that competing at the Olympics is more than going for medals. Respect yourself first and foremost is the most important message one could deliver.
