  3. The top tier of ICC (India/Australia/England) are not even a bit interested in spreading the game. They reduced the teams and changed the format to ensure that established teams are more likely to advance to later stages. Cricket has no chance of joining Olympics. It is not even part of CWG and level at Asian Games is abysmal. India doesn't take part and Pakistan/Sri Lanka send their C teams.

  5. Fully agree. I was checking Indian contingent at Rio and found that around 85% of our athletes were qualified through global tournaments. This time around also, I expect the bulk of the contingent to come through global standards only. Continental places are useful to get those extra shooters through or to chase the historic Fencing qualification.

  10. Killing 176 innocent people is not ''human error" or "disastrous mistake" but war crime.
  11. Till last week all were sure Saina wasn't going to qualify for Olympics. So, good progress in one week. Also, everybody knows Saina is not a medal hope this time around. In WS, it is quite close in top 8 (Marin instead of Li, who is at present WR 8). It is very unlikely someone outside the top 8 can medal (maybe An Se Young). Top 8 have class, are in good form and go deep in the tournament. Among them, it would depend on the draw and performance on the day but my bet is that medals would be divided among Marin, Sindhu and the Japanese.
  12. Notional Rankings = Present Rankings taking into account the last 52 weeks performance. Race to Tokyo Rankings = Rankings taking into account only the tournaments which will be part of Rankings at end of qualification procedure. On April 30 2020, both rankings will be same.

  15. We will know our opponents after the draw is held on 20th. As 6th seed, we can face any of the teams ranked 9-16th.
  16. No Indian has any realistic hope of being in top 18 of IJF rankings (even after removing double entries). Our only hope is Continental qualification. Each NOC can use the continental qualification only once across all weight classes and both genders. So, basically, Avatar Singh, Sushila Devi, Tulika Mann and other Indian judokas are basically fighting among themselves to be the highest ranked Indian judoka and win the Continental quota.
  17. is provisionally in (depending on the conduct of the host and availability of time during the contest window).
  18. Hello Sir, I have a plot on moon I would like to sell. Are you interested?
  19. Yes. There is also a chance in ongoing 470 Asian Championships. There are only 15 teams: 5 from China (not eligible), 5 from India and 5 from other nations. But, since no team of ours participated in Asian Games, not sure how good are our chances of winning the lone quota on offer.
  20. Can you give some concrete example of rising Hindu nationalism and mistreatment of Muslims by Hindus? In India, Muslims have more rights than Hindus. As I said previously, all religions have their own personal laws. Hindu laws are made by parliament while Muslim laws are made by All India Muslim Personal Law Board, a body having only Muslim members. Muslims (and other minorities) have constitutional advantages in field of education as well. Minorities can run educational institutions with minimal government interference and full government subsidy while Hindu educational institutions, even with no government subsidies have a lot of government interference. Similarly, Indian Govt can at any time take over the administration of any Hindu temple but can’t do so with mosques. In the past 6 months, Indian parliament has passed three laws which are seen as creeping Hindu nationalism by Western media. 1) Banning instant triple talak 2) Removal of special status of Jammu and Kashmir and 3) present Citizen Amendment Bill. As I have tried to show, CAB has a very narrow application and should be seen in context of partition and Nehru-Liaquat Pact. I am ready to clear any more doubts that you have with regard to this. Regarding special status of J&K, the previous position was that though J&K was part of India, Indian constitution was not applicable there. So, present government revoked this special status and now the same constitution that is applicable to rest of India is applicable to J&K. Once again, nothing communal about it. As far as Triple Talak is concerned, many Islamic countries also agree that instant triple talak is either against Quran or has no place in todays times and has hence banned it. I have one humble request: Don’t depend on Hollywood to learn about foreign nations/cultures. Slumdog, Hostel, Borat may be great entertainment but they cannot be your main source of information.
  21. The bill doesn't include Jews as well. The bill doesn't include atheists as well. The bill doesn't include Bahai as well. The bill doesn't include Kalash religion as well. As I said earlier, these ad-hoc arrangements have been made by Indian government as and when situation arises. Previously, when large number of Bangladeshis arrived at time of their independence struggle, we granted citizenship to large number of Bangladeshis Muslims as well. Even in this bill, it is not a continuous amnesty but there is a cut-off date of 31 December 2014. So, this Bill is merely in response to a problem and not a template for future. Even now, noted Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen, who is atheist and a vociferous critic of current government, has been given long-term visa on priority basis. So, if in future if we encounter a situation where Ahmadiyas or atheists or some other group is seeking refuge in India, we will give them citizenship as well. To give an example, if Denmark proposes a bill that gives citizenship to Yezidi refugees from Iraq and Syria, would we laud it or say the move is wrong because it doesn't give same rights to the other poor people fleeing ISIS?
